The UK? there are plenty of games developed in the UK.

Anything by Lionhead Studios (Fable, B&W, etc.)
Stronghold series (Firefly has offices in two places in the UK and one in the US, so it seems that they'd do at least some development here)
Creative assembly (Total war series) are based in Sussex, UK.
Rockstar Games, Core Design (Tomb Raider)...

Alright, I'm just being a douchebag now :p. I do see what you're saying thought, even the box-art just makes me think of Japan.

Startopia, a space station sim.

Just look at the box-art... Yeah, it's obscure for a reason.

A crazy scifi game with David Bowie in it.

A Japanese game I stumbled upon by emulator a few years back: Joy Mech Fight.

It's a fighting game for the SNES with the same story as Megaman.

WARNING: PLENTY OF IMAGES BELOW!

I think most of my favourites qualify, including:

I swear to god I'm the only man in the area who knows about this game. It has a fan following, but isn't as famous as some of the other action/RTS games (e.g: Dynasty Warriors). At least everyone I mention it to think's I'm a crackpot.

Before Bungie made Halo, they actually made some pretty decent games. Flawed by it's lack of replayablity, it was short lived fun.

Everyone knows about KKND: Krossfire right? But how many of us have played or owned the original without resorting to Home of the Underdogs, Pirate Bay or wherever?

Before Dawn of War came along, there was Final Liberation. It was a faithful adaptation of Epic 40,000 (now Epic: Armageddon) and shows that Specialist Games (Epic, Inquisitor, Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Gothic etc) had more support back then than they do now...

Image sizes are okay, right?

It's a pretty good shooter. Only thing that bugs me about it is that its sequel is only on PS2.

"Impossible Creatures" on PC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impossible_Creatures

An RTS where your army is made of hybrid animals that you can make yourself. You can combine animals together, like a lion and a hunchback whale (among many other walking, flying and swimming animals). You can choose which body part from which animals they get and what abilities they can get from the animals that they're made of.

It's just as awesome as it sounds. I barely even actually played the game though, I mostly just sat there and made a whole buttload of funny looking hybrid creatures.

Yup, know that one.

OT: The RPG's that I make. Only me and a couple of my friends know they exist, since there's no point letting anyone else play them due to the sheer amount of in-jokes which people outside my circle of friends wouldn't understand.

ROLO TO THE RESCUE

One of the best damn platformers I ever played, with the only flaw of being EFFING HUGE and having no Save System, and a very depressing fake ending for those who don't get 100% of the game (Seriously, the line "You are never truly happy again" is used in the fake ending)

If this made it to the virtual console I'd buy 5 copies just to gift people into knowing Rolo

It's a shame EA (yes, this was from EA's "young and daring" days) didn't make this game into a series, since Rolo had a lot of gameplay features I wasn't getting from other genesis platformers at the time (Being able to build a team with the animals you rescue and using their unique powers to explore the map was one of them)

*gathers Nostalgia tears*
Christ I remember that aswell, one of two Megadrive games I never bloody beat that and some generic shoot em up vehicle game absolute tosh.

On that note it was some damned driving shooter game for the Megadrive/Genesis you drove this motorcycle, collected powerups, shot at.. uhh things the ground was always some sort of chequered square pattern there was always a boss, afer some levels you would drive into a ship and watch the bike be upgraded to a spaceship. There were no continues if I rememebr right described this game to countless genesis/megadrive fans and utterly none have ever seen it drives me nuts trying to rememeber >_>

Edit: Found it why in hells name did I never think to go through every game on gamefaqs categoricaly >_> free from the damned question finaly.

No idea why I tortured myself for so long the game bloody sucks anyway bleh, hollow victory.
