I played this point-and-click adventure on PC years ago. Maybe it's obscure, maybe not.
Samorost by any chance?

An example of Samorost's art style.

There's this crappy little game called Starshot: Space Circus Fever I remember playing on the N64. It had a fantastic and quirky premise, but the controls were utter shit (like most 3D platformers at that time) and the game suffered for it. Luckily enough, history seems to have forgotten about it. Rest in peace you uncontrollable bastard.

[HEADING=2]R.I.P.[/HEADING]
I remember that as being weird and wonderful, of course I played it when I was around 5 or 6 so maybe I don't remember its faults.

Also for obscure games, this one Doshin The Giant for Gamecube was a very odd but very fun and unqiue game where you controlled the giant on a big island filled with some villagers, you could help them build their own villages, or just go around mucking with the landscape, it had terraforming and a karma system, it was years ahead of its time.

I have heard of Doshin. Black & White borrowed a lot of gameplay elements from it. Speaking of games borrowing game play elements.

I always bring this game up in any discussion about Brutal Legend because they play almost exactly the same. Your main character summons thier army onto the field. Instead of fan geysers you build merch booths on to recharge your fan amounts, you have mana geysers that you build mana founts on to recharge your mana.

Instead of a central stage that if destroyed will cause you to lose the game. You have a central altar that if fully desecrated will cause you to lose the game. Instead of playing a guitar solo to summon a giant flaming blimp to come crashing down on your enemies, you cast a spell to summon a giant cow to land on your enemies and crush them (I did mention this game was made by Shiny right?) or a tornado, or a volcano, or Death, or giant vines that come out of the ground impale your opponent's troops and fling them around. Hell the game even has Tim Curry in it.

Sacrifice was one of the first 3D third person rts's. I really miss Shiny entertainment. They invented the first person zoomable sniper scope.

Goodie! An indie games plug thread!
Ah. Yes... Only I know about. Thats not possible, BUT I do have some nice, obscure indie titles to mention:

Cortex Command (datarealms.com), a 2-D shooter/strategy/something with destructo-scenery.

Vendetta Online (vendetta-online.com) An MMO version of Elite with updated graphics and a heavy PvP orientation for lack of other content.

AI War (arcengames.com)
A co-op/single player ONLY (no competitive multiplayer) with a scary good AI and a deep tech tree.

The Marathon series (source.bungie.org)
A mac cult classic brought back to life by an open source project, this is where Bungie started.

Evochron Legends (starwraith.com) A space trader which I've played for the last week or so almost constantly with a seamless universe, landable planets, backgrounds that matter, and only ONE LOADING SCREEN!!!

MineCraft (minecraft.net) A zen game where the only goal is to build impressive structures in multiplayer servers. Browser based java.

Thats it, really.

Pulseman, the sequel to the Pokemon TCG on gameboy color, NGEN racing, perhaps more. But those are what I'll put down. Pulseman was only released in Japan, along with the Pokemon TCG sequel. Poor, poor not Japan. NGEN racing is pretty much the only airplane game I liked, and it was AWESUM. In my opinion. All of my friends never heard of it.

Tomba is not ultra-obscure. It was great, but people only think it's obscure is because they played it and forgot about it. A lot of people played Tomba. Enough people played it that they DID in fact, create a sequel.

Before Bungie made Halo, they actually made some pretty decent games. Flawed by it's lack of replayablity, it was short lived fun.
Hey, I have that game. Both for PC and for PS2. It is pretty fun, but I was never able to finish it on PC because it's very difficult to play that game on a laptop without a USB mouse.

I'm sure people know about it, but I have yet to hear anybody acknowledge its existence:

This is one of my favorite games for the N64, if not one of my favorite games of all-time. As bugged as it may be, I still love it to death.

Killer 7

you run by pressing one button and you pick where your going by choosing which path you want then running again. All the enemies are invisible and they can only hurt you by getting close to you and exploding. Makes sense that in '05 not alot of people wanted to play that game. But it had an excellent story and if you didnt really care about the fact that it wasnt a FPS you were in for a real treat.
Holy shit, that game was weird, awesome story though. Since you liked, you should get "No More Heroes" for the Wii it's made by the same people. About Killer 7 though, you forgot to mention that the only way you know the invisible enemies are there is when you hear their creepy laugh 0_0

Interestingly probably my favorite game storyline is the almost-no-one-doesn't-stare-at-me-blankly-when-I-mention-it Okage: Shadow King for the PS2(HAS ANYONE HEARD OF ITno, didn't think so...). Its story is brilliant and quirky and exciting and I can say without any noticeable trace of sarcasm that it makes up for the HORRIBLE battle system (everything that's wrong with turnbased battles, including party members that don't realize they're supposed to be exerting actual effort, and more random encounters than a dog's ass has hair follicles) and the ridiculously drawn-out puzzles. I actually played to the end to find out what happened to the characters, which is a miracle considering how ADD I can be...

I think that's the deal with most of the "obscure" games I know.

This is my favorite version of Harvest moon! Instead of buy ore and upgrading you tools they do it by use.

I LOVE THAT GAME!

Did you check out Zeus: Master of Olympus, by the same company?
Holy snap I have that game! I was going to mention it, but seems it's actually a little known.
It's well-known enough to have been re-released by SoldOut. So it's pretty well known and pretty damn easy to find.

Call of Cthulhu is an Obscure game, and it's also very good. Scary in some parts, similar to Eternal Darkness.
