Okay, then...eh. If I ever got my hands on a copy of that game, I'd burn it, and I'm no fan of exploitation hentai, but I don't think banning it would matter in the slightest.

Besides, I get the weird feeling they'd start going after the stuff I consume if they did that. First time I've ever had to call the Slippery Slope fallacy on myself...

Confessed hentai addict right here and while I don't think it calls for a total ban on the sale of their hentai industry I do believe they need to get rid of the stuff like the rape and child porn. That stuff just makes me sick.

Actually when anyone calls for a crackdown on porn they don't think the implications through. If men could no longer whack the weasel, choke the chicken, or make knuckle children they would have a great excess of pent up aggression. This pent up aggression would eventually lead to all men going insane and just being more violent all around.

Men keep their sanity by releasing that pent up sexual aggression themselves when no consenting woman is around to give them a hand. Any male politician that wants to ban porn is either lying through his teeth that he doesn't watch it or is just pissed off that he's to old to get any *insert random sexual pun here*.

Here's an interesting and true statistic pulled from the "Book of useless information" published by the Useless information society (seriously this does exist and its sitting on my desk) 95% of men admit they masturbate or watch porn, the other 5% are lying.

I understand the intent...but...doesn't the real problem lay with the people who play those games?

It's like trying to treat the symptoms of an illness, but doing nothing about the illness itself.

Yeah, as much as I love to rail against censorship, it's a lot harder to make those arguments when the items in question are "rape simulators". There is really no reason for those to exist.

But then this is hardly the most disturbing thing Japan has created - thanks a lot internet! My precious brain will never be the same again.

He is saying that people have no regard for the law. They will do what they do.

The UN is worthless right now. That is all I have to say.

The committee concluded with a request to Japanese lawmakers "to ban the sale of video games or cartoons involving rape and sexual violence against women which normalize and promote sexual violence against women and girls."
Wait, so I can still make cartoons where I rape men and boys? SCHWEET!
This just shows the fail of this movement.

Games like this make free expression hard to defend. I believe its wrong and wouldn't be caught dead near the game, but at the same time I'm not Japanese. Imposing onto other cultures rarely goes well. Some other things to keep in mind, that Japan despite having this type of material circulating in Japan, it has very low rates of crime including violent crime and rape. Simply put its main complaint is really insubstantial. It just seems they are searching for something to blame instead of just holding people accountable for their actions.

All in all its just easier to say "I don't know and have no opinion" on the matter. Whatever happens happens, and there really isn't a wrong answer in a debate that you don't really have any say in.

People may have no regard for the law, but I rather have some laws, making sure people who do the wrong things get punish then let them go free and do w/e they want. Their needs to be a limit to what people can or can't do in games/movies/and in life. If we don't ,then everyone would do whatever. Children and woman would get rape daily, even more so now. People would get murder for stupid reason because no one can stop the people from shooting each other. And I'm done talking about this. This is the third topic about it and its getting old. Stop showing this over and over and over cause people will either defend the game, have no opinion, or agree to ban.

Riiiight.
Because outside forces trying to influence things another group of people have been doing for a good bit of time has gone soooo well in the past.
I wonder what they'll do this time.
Only pure blooded Japanese people who live on the central island will be able to buy those kinds of games/books?
Yes, it is quite creepy* that they have games and comics centered around rape/stalking/other questionable activities.
[sup]*to me, anyway...[/sup]
But I'm pretty sure Japan will just keep doing what they want to in this area.
It's not like they're in jeopardy of losing trade because of this.

I don't agree with the apparent sentiments behind this, but it is a very witty post...
Thanks, to be honest by all accounts RapeLay is a pretty shit game anyway, and I couldn't care if they banned it or not. The only thing that worries me here is that people will begin to ban everything left right and centre,

"UN moves to ban all pornography that differs from the missionary position to appease offended Christian groups."

Of course that's an exaggeration, but it's still a very real possibility.

This type of call should be coming from the people of Japan , not some committee of bored ladies that feel the need to joust with windmills after a rousing tea and crumpet party.

Acts of violence, sexual or not, against children real or fabricated should be condemned unilaterally and should really be a no brainer to a civilised society.

My only beef with this type of banning isnt that they want to ban rape/violence vs girls and women, thats agreeable... its the fact that after that its usually the norm to go after something else, like violence in video games, salt in your food, cigerettes, booze ....there is ALWAYS something new to 'champion the cause for', where does it end... social programming ?

These sick bastards, I bet they think everything should be consensual sex between a married man and woman, in the missionary position, with the lights off!

I'm going to go over to /d/ and look at images of bound women being raped by tentacles, just because I can.

Here's what I'm thinking, how far do they want the new restrictions to go? Because whilst there is alot of pornographic works of manga and anime, generally featuring rape, ect. Alot (TVtropes says so) of anime and manga imply or include a rape scene without being in the slightest pornographic, sometimes even just in passing, and still managing to tell a compelling story. Ok, the actual story varies from place to place but I think my point remains valid. What I'm wondering is would these be affected too or is it specifically banning full on porn? Either way it would be a horrid case of the west trying to impose it's values on everyone else (that needs to stop).

Boo censorship! Fuck the UN! Japan has the right idea. (Well, except for the "all porn must be censored" crap. Bloody pixels...)

and promote sexual violence against women and girls.
This intrigues me the most. There was a report commissioned in 1970 by the (then current) President Johnson of the US on whether or not Pornography (or other obscene materials) could cause delinquent or criminal behaviour in youths or adults. Wiki page is here [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President%27s_Commission_on_Obscenity_and_Pornography]. In short: No such correlation was found. At all.

So...you know, the UN is only forty years out of the loop. God, I'm glad we have these people running the show.

Acts of violence, sexual or not, against children real or fabricated should be condemned unilaterally and should really be a no brainer to a civilised society.
Are you going to go protest against the Fallout 3 "Children can be killed" mods as well? Whether the collection of pixels depicts a child or an adult: It's still a collection of pixels. People's inability to distinguish reality from fiction isn't the fault of game developers, movie directors, authors or sculptors. It's on the individual. Why should I have my enjoyment censored because someone else is too out of touch with reality to understand where the boundaries are?

And if something offends your delicate sensibilities? Ignore it. I highly doubt anyone playing these rape games are doing so in your face. Pushing your nose into what other people fap to in the privacy of their own home is coming dangerously close to arresting people on 'thought crimes'.

Big Brother, Slippery Slope fallacy, yada yada.

The mere thought of this game makes me want to vomit I mean why have a game that is based on raping people who look maybe in teens and then the youngest is said to look 11 years old! I've been following this ever since it started and I do not like what Japan is doing. If I was the Japanese president I would ban this the moment I got wind of it. I mean come on Japan!
I'm going to sidetrack slightly to prove my point. Lolicon (wiki page) [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolicon] has existed for quite some time throughout Japan, with a variety of games, manga and anime surrounding it. You might say: "Ew! They must be crawling with paedophiles with all of that pseudo-child porn around!" To which I would respond with amusement. Japan has less than half as many cases of arrests for actual child pornography than America (proportionally). Lolicon, something which ostensibly hurts no one as it's based entirely on fiction could perhaps be actually curbing the amount of real child porn which does hurt people.

Perhaps rape games might do the same? In fact, looking at the UN statistics for Rape crimes [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics#UN_Statistic], the US has a far higher number of cases than Japan per 100,000 people. What does that tell you?
