I'm against both the death penalty and (generally) abortion. Both are common stances but rarely together people who are against one are usually for the other (which makes no goddamn sense to me).

As a police officer I am for the legalization of pot, mostly for economic reasons. I believe you should have a license to sell it and must have a commercially zoned building for it. My big issue with it is that you can only suspect someone of DUI with pot unless you get a blood test.
The opinion is very unpopular among law enforcement officials because they see the worst damage it can do. Sometimes I think of horrific incidents and switch my position for a few days.
I'd be a terrible politician.

I don't think the ending to Mass Effect 3 should be changed.

GTA IV is crap in almost every conceivably way to me.

Sometimes I consider Far Cry 2 to be a work of near-genius. (It depends on what mood I'm in.)

Call of Duty 4 was fairly unremarkable (besides the sheer of number of times they managed to make your helicopter crash).

Hipsters don't bother me in the slightest.

I'm an atheist, which I guess qualifies when looking at the worldwide platform.

I don't support the death penalty, at all, ever.

I don't view theism or a belief in spirits or ghosts as open-minded. (Again, this might be a more general thing, as opposed to just in response Escapist.)

Fallout 3 was better than New Vegas.

Atmosphere in 3 was superior in every way.

Third this.

Also, Return of the Jedi is not as horrible as you think it was.

I hate the gay community. All of it. Absolutely, unapologetically hate it. Why, you ask?

THEY STOLE GOD-DAMNED RAINBOWS. ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHOOOOOOOOOOOOOLES!!!

I mean, the rainbow was always kind of a fruity thing to like, but it never meant straight-up gay until the gay community adopted it as their symbol. I don't hate gay people, and I'm not against any of their causes, but seriously, fuck them for ruining rainbows. Fuck them all! You can't just "claim" the visual light spectrum! You can't!

Another, more rational unpopular opinion I have is that people are people, no matter who they are. They deserve a chance, even if their government is evil, or their religion has a few whackjobs that make said religion seem crazy. Dividing the world into factions, or even worse, enemies and non-enemies, causes nothing but strife. You may think this shouldn't be an unpopular opinion, and I agree, but it is, especially in my line of work (the US military). Now I can understand why some of my coworkers have adopted a "from enemy country = enemy" mentality and I don't hold it against them. I just hope they'll learn to see things the way I do in time. But this doesn't just apply to the military, it applies to anyone who sees someone with a different opinion or just someone who works for someone with a different opinion and thinks "that person is the enemy." Things are never so black and white.

I don't see the point of vegetarianism outside of medical illnesses and allergies to eating meat. Actively choosing to eat nothing but fruit and veg seems a waste of time.

Sex is awesome. This isn't an unpopular mindset, but far too many people see it as a taboo that we must protect children from, and I loathe and detest that. While there's no need to show kids graphic hardcore pornography, there's absolutely no reason to be ashamed of sex, sexuality, or fetish.

People suck. A person is awesome, but collectively people become idiots. One person can have a plethora of ideas, inspirations, and things they could do that would make the world a better place. A large group however just isn't capable of that, and tends to fall to socially accepted norms, without any one person ever challenging themselves, for fear of being against the group.

I really don't care for the fact that most videogames are now pretty much solely about killing generic soldiers/space soldiers/ ancient historical soldiers/ undead zombie soldiers/ etc. soldiers. Doesn't matter if it's an RPG, FPS, or sandbox, pretty much every game now seems to be trying to sell to the COD/GTA crowd. They're pretty much just trying to rip off big budget action movies in a playable form, and it doesn't do anything for me.

Haha, fixed it dude. Don't worry about it. I mean, there are unpopular opinions, and then there are wrong opinions. Luckily you no longer have a wrong one.

This, as long as it's done as humanely as possible. Failing that, an alternate (possibly more acceptable) method is to remove any state funding from special education and medical care.

I think medical marijuana is waste of time, and marijuana should be sold, taxed, and regulated like alcohol. That opinion seems to be accepted by about half the country.

But I also think all drugs should be legalized. Yep - morphine, amphetamines, you name it. Studies have shown that current policy doesn't reduce the tendency of people to get addicted to them, and that the major health problems people have as a result is because they're getting low-quality chemicals off the street.
If only cleanly made drugs were sold (and all these drugs have medical uses, so they ARE all produced cleanly by regulated companies as well) I think it would reduce fatalities and take a lot of money out of the black market. It's juvenile for politicians to think that restricting availability will stop people from using. There's really very little different between what we're doing now and what happened during Prohibition, whose only significant lasting effect was to strengthen the black market beyond belief.
100% agree. The hysterical screaming whenever anyone even mentions legalizing narcotics is rather tiresome.

As for me, probably the most unpopular opinion I hold (as evidenced by the amount of shit I get for it) is...

that I find Jar Jar Binks to be both not annoying and mildly amusing.

Ok for realsies this time: Probably the least popular opinion I hold is my stance on euthanasia and suicide. Specifically, that people, regardless of age or mental state, have the right to make that choice, and no one has the right to stop them. Others do not have to help perform it (matter of fact, I approve of others not assisting), but they don't have the right to stop someone from offing themselves if that's what they chose. I've gotten a lot of shit for this from a variety of sources, mostly because of the qualifiers I put on it. I've been called a monster for thinking that even children have the right to euthanasia if they make that decision, but I stand by it. I'd explain my reasons, but it's a bit much to put up here, so people can PM me if they want to hear why.

I know exactly what you mean.

I came across someone on this forum going on about how awful humanity was, and they said (to paraphrase) "I actually consider myself a separate species entirely, because I honestly don't see how it's possible to be so cruel and evil."

My response went along the lines of "you're a generalizing twat. Oh, you consider yourself a separate species? That sounds so up your own arse that you're clearly as bad as the rest of us." (Insert witty remark about him not being a separate species, because clearly being unable to get laid isn't the same as physically being unable to procreate with humans)

Some people.

I actively dislike misanthropes, and think that from a darwin point of view, extreme Nihilists are the stupidest people on earth.

I believe that all first world countrys should bring in a 1-child law and stop all child allowance, untill a small and self sustaining population has been achieved in those countrys.
The population largely already is. 1-child law will just be an abusive solution to a problem that is no longer an issue in first world countries. Africa and India, sure it's an issue, but Europe and America, fuck no. I think Germany even has a negative birth rate right no if I remember correctly, and I'm almost certain a couple nations further east than there do. Births per woman in the developed nations averages out to below two.

OT- I like people. No, I love people. I think people are the absolute greatest thing in existence. I am also of the opinion that hating people is never entirely logical and that being dismissive or hateful towards others is wrong. Yes, even Hitler.

This isn't a flame against anyone but it probably will be an unpopular opinion around here (seeing as quite a few people are like this)....

I hate miserable bastards. I don't mean dislike I mean I physically detest them.

They piss off everyone around them, they can turn something happy into an utter shit storm and generally aren't nice people to be around.

They say utter toss like "I have lost faith in humanity" oh fuck off with your cliché phrase.

"I don't want to live on this planet anymore", that's funny .... I don't want you living on this planet anymore.

They never say anything worth listening to.

And the most amusing part .... "I hate humanity, I hate people" so why, oh bloody why, are they hanging around forums that contain ... you guessed it ... people.

I say to them, crawl back under the bridge of misery and leave the rest of us to be happy and talk about sunshine and rainbows.

Yes the world is a shitty place, trust me i've seen a hell of a lot more of that shit than the some of the people that whine about it, but we get on with it. We like life and the little joys it brings.

And to the OP. I have kids, 5 of them. Am I angered by your words ... nay lad, nay I am not.

All I have to say to you is MY SPERM WORKS so all is well in the world.
*sniffs and wipes way tear* It is so good to meet someone else like this, I've been looking for oh so very long. Thank you sir, I think... i think I may be in love with you.

Personally, I think that a lot of people who have children are selfish. The world is cruel and random, and that child will inevitably face suffering whether or not you think you can give it a good home, love, care, etc. And there are so many parents that try to project or impose their own agendas onto their kids, like people that want their little boy to be a doctor, or their little girl to be a model, perhaps because they failed at it themselves and want to live through their youngsters.

And what if it comes out physically and/or mentally disabled? How can you live with yourself knowing that you took that kind of risk and that child is now going to suffer worse than most, and is going to feel ostracized, as if he won't get to do all the things a "normal" person could do? You can't see the future; you don't know if it's just going to give up and hang itself. And after 18 years, it's likely just going to go off and, I dunno, have its own life, and then you'll be alone. That time-killer, that period of happiness, will be gone.

Not to mention the strain on resources that the ever-growing population is making. People often fail to realize that we're not alone and we don't live alone. I'm not the biggest fan of humans either, but at least I acknowledge that even some of the smallest actions I do can impact in a very big and potentially negative way on other people. But no, we'll just sit back, ignore the cycle and continue spawning babies that'll eventually go into oblivion. The existence of life is a highly overrated phenomenon, and humanity destroying itself after along wouldn't be a bad thing. It might even be a good thing, if you look what a stewing hell-hole this planet is. I honestly find it difficult to see, the global scale of things, what's so fucking great about it. It's all shit, and those that say otherwise are probably delusional idealists living in a bubble, blissfully ignorant to the true horrors of Earth. You can't blame people for being pessimists when life has screwed them over with no mercy or sign of stopping, as if you're just stuck in an eternal tornado of pain and misfortune.

The fact of the matter is, people have kids for themselves. They don't know what that child will be like, they don't know what'll grow into. They don't know shit, other than their own selfish dream of a happy family, and then they inconvenience everyone else around them. I'm not grateful to my mother for giving birth to me. And you know, if I really had to be given birth to, I'd much rather have had a different, good family. It feels like a curse.

Let me get this straight. I don't dislike people that have kids, except for certain irresponsible cases. I just don't agree with it.
Sorry i can't really answer on this thread, without going kind of untopic, after reading your post.
I typed a few sentences, before i realiced, this isn't the thread to discuss this, so i will just leave them down here.

Sorry i have to say this, put you're the one, who don't knows shit.
You really sound like you really hate your life and i feel sorry for you, but just because you had it rough, doesn't mean everybody has to have it rough.
Just because you don't seem to like live, doesn't mean it's wrong to give life.
The world is no farytale, but it's no hell either.

Bro, relax. Who gives a fuck about the visible light spectrum, gamma and x-rays are where it's at these days. Hell, anything from 10^(-8)m and downwards is cool in my book.
Low-frequency waves not good enough for you then? I'll just take my radio and microwaves with me and leave then, see how you communicate now. Though you can take ultraviolet, that guys a dick.
Anyways...

First, i would not want to live in a world run by the OP. If having any children at all is selfish, then every creature that ever has, will or can live in the entire universe is evil.

As for an actual unpopular opinion, given that most seem to agree with the above statement, is that I'm still support the Lib Dems. Less out of actually liking them, but more out of not liking any of the competitors. In general I like their policies, and only take issue with the anti-nuclear power stance they've taken.

Oh, and I do really dislike misanthropes, Nihilists included. And for that reason, below:
