Why did they feel the need to put "five" over the Roman numeral? Redundant title is redundant, that or they assume people are stupid.

On a different note, no more bullshit with friends and cousins please.
but its Roman (numeral) your cousin ... hey you want to go bowling?.
Hell, fucking, no.

Cant there be room in the world for both? I loved Saints Row 2 as much as the next guy (And my only experience with it was the terrible PC port), but GTA IV was one of the best games I've ever played.

I am deeply excited for this trailer, but I wonder if they'll be using the same engine as GTA IV?

And since the font used in the "V" is in the same style used in American currency, is it safe to assume that this one will also take place in America? That's too bad. Personally I'd kind of hoped the next game would be about Packie and wherever he went on that plane with his bag of money. He did mention he wanted to see Ireland. And Australia. Those could be cool settings.
well the logo no doubt hints at AMERICAN MONEY, not necessarily the place. couldn't it still follow Packie and his bag of money, with the story centering around issues involving that, much like the diamonds in GTA IV?

though, my thought is that it will again be set in america, as people said, either in DC, or more likely to me, since money appears to be a focus point, Las Vegas/Las Venturas. if this is a return to the State of San Andreas, they may win me back. GTA IV forgot it was a game, not a movie. I've spent more time playing Saints Row since GTA4 came out because it was SIMPLY MORE FUN.

I don't think there was doubt in anyone's minds that GTA 5 was on the way, but its great to see it officially announced.

But hey, Rockstar... Can we PLEEEEEASE PRETTY PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE go back to Vice City or San Andreas for just one game? Preferrably set in modern day like in GTA 4, just to see the changes to the city over the 20-30 year story gap? I mean, the colours and the graphics looked great enough on the PS2, imagine how nice those places would look now? And I'm not even a "graphics" guy, I just think those two games looked beautiful.

Where ever they set this game, please no more Liberty City or similar gritty urban environments, its just boring.

Please, no cousins. Please.

I'm actually excited, otherwise. Rockstar should consider picking an entirely untapped locale, like Chicago or Huston.
Houston? A GTA game in my hometown? I would play it.

There is already a GTA: London expansion for the first GTA game if everyone forgot that...

*Sigh* Looks like I'm still going to have to wait for GTA: Glasgow, which is a shame when you consider it would be a good crime-associated setting and Rockstar North is based in Scotland anyway...

The 5 looks like a US. dollar bill, and where are they printed? washington DC. That's my best guess for a city.

What I really want to see is a game set in DC/Baltimore. It would be cool to also have a couple different viewpoints as well. Start the game as some Rich white guy in DC who gains power and influence through blackmail and corruption and eventually runs for political office. At the same time you play as some poor black guy in DC who has to rise to power in the drug game like the best show ever the Wire. Then have their paths cross for some reason later in the game. That would be my ideal GTA game.

The question is where the new setting would be. Personally, I'd rather it didn't revisit Vice City or San Andreas. In all likelihood, the new GTA would take place in a modern 21st century setting, which wouldn't mix so well in the other aforementioned locales. Vice City worked well because it was set in the 80's where everyone wore pastels and the all the music had synthesizers in them, a very Miami Vice feel to it. Similarly, the 90's gang violence of San Andreas set to songs from the end of the golden age of hip-hop and the emergence of gagsta rap had its own unique feel to it that wouldn't translate so well in a more modern setting.

So what that leaves us with is either one of America's other easily identifiable well known cities (all I can think of is Chicago and DC, although Honolulu would be interesting if they allow island hopping and go for a Hawaii Five-0 setting) or a more foreign, yet easily distinguished locale for western audiences like England, Sydney, or maybe Paris. The free roaming sandbox genre in Japan has essentially been cornered by your Yakuza and Shenmue types of games, and while Hong Kong and Beijing do present interesting alternatives, navigating them would be a nightmare cut-down game world or not. As for Latin America, we have Mercenaries 2 and Just Cause 2.

Edit: Rockstar could go for something taking place in Texas that frequently crosses the border over into Mexico, but then there's the issue that they might just be retreading Red Dead Redemption.

I enjoyed GTA IV quite a lot, but I also did all the other GTA games. For me, I don't think it matters what direction they move in, though I vote for no more escort missions. They were OK, but got old fast. Wouldn't mind them in GTA V as long as they were totally optional.[footnote]You have to call the friend and it doesn't affect any sort of "relationship" meter[/footnote]
Otherwise, I'd like a setting where you drive on the left (preferbly my home country, Australia), but I'm happy to sit with any setting they give (as long as its not too far in the past/future).

I'm guessing the city will be the Washington DC area. Why? Because of the five. It looks like a dollar bill. Hopefully this game takes a bit more from Saints Row and throws Realisim out for actual fun.

CAPTCHA: freenab inc., sounds like a kidnap for hire service.

I'm guessing Vancouver. Or Detroit. Or Sydney. Or Brisbane. Maybe Moscow?
*glances out window*

actually, vancouver would be interesting. we've got the giant liberty style city, but we also have a lot of backroads and mountainous dealies which would be the perfect excuse for a gigantic canyon jump type place. no to mention that Rockstar'd certainly rip Surry to shreds in terms of personality. poor place's sort of fallen apart in the last little while.

and actually, it'd be hilarious to see them rip the "culture" we pretend to have apart. (we think we're seattle north. which is optimistic)
I've always thought and non U.S. city would be cool (I live in the US). Some place other then New York of some Californian city. Vancouver would be pretty sweet.

Perhaps this time you can make it so that the cars don't control like they weigh 3000lbs more than real life vehicles?

Seriously. When my fucking VOLVO can outmaneuver every sports car in GTA4, there's something seriously wrong.
