Well, ofcourse all my condolences to all his family and friends...did he have many of those actually? I thought he was practically a hermit.
Anyway, the King of Pop died ages ago, MJ was only a shadow of what he once was. It may sound horrible, but I personally couldn't care less, the old Micheal Jackson is long dead already. I guess my mum's record of Thriller (the LP) will start to rise in value now, better hold on to it.
QFT! The real Jacko died a very long time ago, somewhere after releasing Bad. After that, he wasn't his old self again. I mean he still released music, but, really now, Heal the World?

Billy Jean, Bad, Beat It!...etc, and don't forget, he made the fuckmothering Thriller! That's what I wanna remember about him, not what happened after all this, child molesting and stuff...eeeh.

... To turn themselves from a handsome black man into an ugly white woman (with regard to looks). I mean, I'm completely straight, but the old, black Michael Jackson was one good looking dude. There must be some real issues going on with him to think the way the surgery made him look was an improvement.
Try being in the public eye since you were very young, then growing up to be one of the most influential singer/songwriter/dancer/performer combo. It's quite well-known that Michael Jackson is an eccentric man outside the stage. You can even say that he has issues. But guess what, until this day, we never knew (and we might probably never know) how he was when he's alone with family and friends (quite an accomplishment, what with the constant hounding of the media).

OH MAN! The poor guy! My stepdad told me "Did you hear about Michael Jackson?" but I thought he was referring to a short article in the newspaper saying Jacko wanted to become "The king of bling" so I said "Yeah, I read that." Oh man! If this doesn't become the news event of the year I wonder what will be!

Mum woke me up this morning saying "Micheal jacksons dided" I go hmm and go back to sleep.
I can understand why it is news worthy, he was a music and culture icon, far more deserving of the media attention than Jade Goody, my god i hate her

I'm sorry... I'm too lazy to read all 10 pages so this has probably been said a million times already, but I'll say it anyway.

Some say they don't care, some say it's downright wrong to get upset about one man dying when there's so much unnecessary death and suffering in world that we just don't give a fuck about. But let's face it, celebrities are people we know. At least we think of them as such. And as far as celebrities go, MJ was second only to Elvis. Now I can respect that not everyone agrees that he deserved such fame. I don't think Elvis did. I mean, I can't stand listening to his crap! BUT... I can still respect the fact that millions and millions of people disagree with me. Whether or not MJ was a big deal to you or not, to millions he was someone who played a part in their lives, even though they didn't know him personally. When some who plays a part in your life dies, it affects you directly. When a million kids in Africa starve to death or die from AIDS because we were too busy getting fat to help them, it doesn't. That's why so many people are upset about MJ's death, and I gotta say, I feel it too. I was born in '81. His music (Thriller, Bad, Billie Jean, etc) was part of my childhood.

I think that no matter how fucked up he was (not being allowed to be a child while you're still young would have that effect, I suppose), the media always treated him a lot worse than he deserved. I remember I even defended him in WoW guild chat when the pedophilia charges were hot news. My standpoint was always, "It wouldn't surprise me, but no matter what we think we know about him, he's still innocent until proven guilty". (Yay! Now that's restraint! I managed to keep myself from adding a done-to-death, never-that-funny joke that would have been both racially insensitive and offensive to those who truly mourn his death. I should get a medal for that!)

EDIT: Typo

I feel kinda the same as when Steve Irwin died. Everyone constantly made fun of him, but then he dies, and you just think, damn... it just isn't the same without him.

Then again, Irwin never molested anyone.
Heck , Irwin was much better than Mike , I was sad when Steve died but when I heard Mj died I couldn't care less

Any speculation on the reasons for his cardiac rest? I speculate he overdosed on Jesus Juice.
Guys, regardless of what he did (cause we all know he did) and regardless of the myriad of jokes we could say, a little respect for the dead, please? I wasn't his biggest fan either but come on...
Ugh. Do you even know why I should pay respect for the dead? The only reason is to not upset anyone close to the dead , as I see it. And
A: MJ's relatives will not be googling Michel Jackson on the Escapist, we can be sure of that, and
B: If this upsets a fan of him, then they truly need to get it together. I'm sure there are stand up comedians putting jokes together as we speak.

Why are there so many people here who don't care? Why does everyone just look at his later life blunders (fuckups, severe alterations of the publics view on him, destruction of our faith in people) and not his music career? his music is to this day the only pop I will ever like. He was truly a talented and great musician and will be dearly missed.
Molesting a child is not 'a blunder'!

Seriously, the Cynicism and apathy on this thread is sickening. So when the news reports non famous people died, you don't care either? It's like no one has respect for the dead any more.
Alas, the "hypocrisy" that got TheNecroswanson banned.

All I can say is..WHO CARES???
A lot of people do, he was the man who brought the music industry, which was almost totally dead back from a very bad time in the early 80's with Thriller. To ignore his impact is to be ignorant of music itself.
His music sucked....

This is not the place to spew hatred for the man, for christsakes he's dead, at a human level you should feel some compassion for a man who died at the age of 50, it's a tragedy.
WHY? He was a child molester. I have NO compassion for monsters like that.
