If this is legit, then either Valve was developing the second one while waiting to release the first, they're working on this instead of the next Half-Life, or I'm a monkey's uncle.
I'm going to go with this.

I'm happy either way; I don't give a hoot about all the other junk... I like L4D; Just hope they still let User Created Maps become playable soon.
Holy crap, I think it is legit, it's got a trailer. I'll be happy also, just hope that the creative tools for the PC get transferred to the console versions...and maybe a character creator.

Looks like I get to blow my first post in escapist forums on this thread (pleasedon'thurtme)

I bought L4D maybe 3 months after it was released, played mainly campaign until another 2 months - because versus gave me the impression of griefing hilarity (and mainly because I'm a girly pansy), and loved it ever since. Even if Valve's trying to pull this crap on the general populace so early in an attempt to rake in more money, it's got me sold.

I guess it's a little like Nintendo - they're so popular they can slap their logo on a fork and sell it for over a grand (alright, I might be exaggerating there just a little bit, but I've got both the DS lite and a Wii at home, so go figure). If Valve keeps churning out awesome games like this, I don't care how fast they come. Just as long as I have my hot little hands on their copy of L4D2 within a month or 2 after its release, I'll die (semi)happy. I can't wait to try out the chainsaw.

That other thing being I've never really played any of the half-life series, so I'm far too ignorant as to why it should come out before L4D2, which in my oblivious opinion is far better than any single-player shooter.

*Waits for angry posts?*

Ooooh what if there's an Orange Box 2?
I know it's unlikely but maybe Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2, and Half Life 2: Episode 3.
How awesome would that be?

The first Left 4 Dead isn't even a complete game yet. I'm still waiting for them to release enough content to make it worth the 60 bucks I paid for it. They cant honestly expect me to pay full price for a sequel that has features the first game should of had in the first place.

This is stupid.
I'm still gunna buy it :)

The Game Ain't Comin Out For Quite Sometime.

It's Probably Still In Production..Besides The Trailer Looks Great.
yes, of course it is, but. What they should have done is to hold the release of L4D half a year more, and include this update in it.
Oh, and why are you capitalizing every word?

Nice news, but...

Valve? Where is Half life 2, episode 3? Come on, at least give us a hint that you are working on it somewhere!
I'm beginning to suspect they'll release ep 3 on a new game engine.... like source 2 or whatever

And to be honest, if I had to choose between L4D2 or HL2 Ep3 coming out this November, I would honestly choose L4D2. This is coming from a guy who's played every single Half Life game made, and I'm still really looking forward to Ep3. But I know I'd play L4D2 a lot more than I'd play Ep3.

Eller
They don't have a "we started this first, we'll finish it first" policy, they let the employees choose which projects they work on. If no-one would prefer to work on HL2Ep3 rather than L4D2, the former will not get made.

Well... now we know why Episode 3 is taking so long. Nobody's working on it.
lol, win.

But Turtle Rock Studios is the company that works on Left 4 Dead, Valve works on Half-life and such things.

Am I right or wrong?

As soon as they finished the first, they probably started working on the second, is it so hard to believe an announcement would come this soon? It's only a trailer anyway, you dont know how far into development this is. I for one am looking forward to the sequel.

Aww, I wish the last scene with the frying pan had a more ... you know .... "pong" effect to it, rather than hearing the same sound of flesh being crushed.

Well what about this.....remember that its all in the same world with the zombie apocalypse over (maybe) interlapping time periods......so imagine it like they combine to create one huge game....maybe if you have both games there will be an option in the menu where you can select "L4D2, or L4D"

Who cares at least we get to chainsaw a tank ^.^

Good thing I didn't get L4D1 yet.
I guess I'll just wait for this one instead of buying the first.
Oh, and the guy at then end of the trailer with the frying pan as a weapon, ha.

I don't think CSS came out one year after CS 1.6.
It didn't. And people STILL play it. So what makes you think everyone would abandon L4D after just a year?
Because it has a lot lower requirements than CSS and it has basically the same content, doesn't require Steam installed... and for many people, it's easier to install it (textures from CS 1.6 take less space).

L4D2 comes out A YEAR after the first game. Come on, there was only one DLC... That's like making a new Team Fortress instead of adding content with patches.

A dick move is still a dick move.

Yes, I am sure that not even 50% of the current player base will buy the new game, and only half of us (at best) will stay.
I expect more than 50% will buy the sequel, I probably will and most players I know will.

Also let's not forget that once a sequel comes out, the previous game lands in the "ABANDONED FOREVER" box. You might get a patch now and then. But don't even think about DLC or anything like that.
Here I think we're seeing a type of 'episodic' gaming. Rather than having DLC that is tied into the first game we're given a fresh setting with new features.

Besides, that's just a dick move. "We make a game, then instead of making new content for it, we will immediately after 8 months release a sequel, so you either buy it or stay with your crappy old and unsupported game".
L4D has been almost constantly updated. They made the Survival Mode and altered two mission for versus mode, if that's not new content then what is?

Valve will keep working on fixes for L4D just not as vigorously as there's not that much left to fix.

Don't forget that this is a short game. Re-playable but short. If you haven't seen everything in it by now then you're obviously not that into it.

That's like Blizzard making another 3 WoW expansions month after month. So you have to buy them all or you can't play the "new content" that could've been added with a patch or two.
No it's not because you can still play L4D as much as you want.

/sigh. Its not coming out 'half a year later' its coming out A year later, (Ok so its off by 2 days. Go flame it then.) But listen here - The COD games all have a 1 year gap, except cod 1 to cod 2, but since then its 2005 - Cod 2, 2006, cod 3, 2007, cod 4, and 2008, cod 5...And later in 2009, guess what? Cod 6.

And those were all good games. SO CALM, THE FECK, DOWN. Thank you.
CoD 3 was an abomination.

And they are not Multiplayer-based games. They have potent single-player.[/quote]#

So, Left 4 Dead is a different type of game. Is there some sort of rule that games companies can only bring out sequels after a minimum of two years? I prefer it this way, bring on L4D 2, just don't forget HL2 Epidsode 3.

This is very un Valve-like. I think this title would have worked better as an expansion pack. Still, it will be fun to play as Uncle Phil.
