If Sony or the courts seriously move to have him brought back to the US, that's when I'll be convinced for sure that money buys justice.

Of all the criminals who've up and fled justice over the years, Geohot is such a minor felony at best, he should be way down the list of caring. If I was a cop, Geohot would be just behind making sure we increase the choc creme numbers in our daily donut delivery, not an international incident.

To me, this is a both sides lose case,Geohot's being a dick, but so are Sony, and would it have come to this, would Geo have even bothered to hack it if Sony hadn't been removing advertised features in the first place?

Say I cut a big lump out of my new PS3, and decide I'm going to wear it as a hat, I'm not using it in an authorised way, surely I'm equally guilty and deserve an orange jumpsuit too.

I'm just not convinced that piracy is as big a deal as the corps make it out to be, and I'm edging closer to the idea it's partly being used as an excuse to get legal backup to get more rights for them and less for the consumers.

I say that knowing quite a few gamers and knowing NO-one with a hacked console, and coming from a time when everyone I knew was trading spectrum games on tapes and Amiga stuff on floppy disks at school, 20 years ago. Everyone I know who was an avid pirate at school, now has disposable income and much prefers to buy the stuff they love, now they can!
I don't believe he should be pulled back for the trial, but I want to see the court pull him back and pimp-smack him a few times for fucking around with evidence. I wouldn't mind if SONY turned around and said "We'll drop the case if you fuck him up for trying to mess with our evidence and denying a court order" Because that's not situational bullshit between him and SONY, that's just justice for him being an idiot

Great.. Great, he's a complete fucktard then. Well, screw him. He could have stood up and defended the right to mod objects that you own. Now? Now he's just an idiot who likes to break laws because he can.

I respect his move. He was fucked. What he did was illegal... and awesome. I am glad that I contibuted to his "flee the country" fund, and I hope he manages to make a life for himself in his new home.

Christ what as asshole.

I'd say I feel sorry for the poor sods who stupidly gave him money, but I really, really, don't.
Had to see it coming. Man offers XBOX his services, saying he can make their security better, then makes a rap about how corporations are all evil and not to trust them. Then he asks for donations to fight the giant and ends up running away.

I think it was pretty cool that people donated money to support him. Stupid, but neat... And yeah, can't really pity them

Anyone else is imagining Japanese men in suits chasing and shooting at him at the highway while he's making a run for the border? I'm just saying: nobody f*cks with sony without facing the consequenses... they're worse than Microsoft... and more lethal...

I'm sorry, but after saying it so many tmies...

What part of tampering with evidence and denying a court order is legal in your mind?!

Please keep in mind that his move to "South America" was a claim by Sony and has no clear substantiation in article. His motives are also unknown, but of course Sony lawyers are going to inject their bias into the allegation.
Yes, his motives are unknown, but look above. If he just moved to South America, or told the court her had to leave or something, that's one thing. What makes me wonder are those two distinctly illegal actions he performed that I mentioned above.... Yeah, doesn't cast his actions in the best of light without SONY's help

This battle was already won, GeoHot. It was already won, because the idea of leasing somebody a console or a game is absurd.

But you fucked it up. You fucked it up by running away and tampering with evidence even though the truth would have set you (and all of us) free without a doubt. You have set fair use back by doing this. You are making us look like cowards and criminals.

Come back. Fight your battles. Listen to your attorneys.

Come back and we will support you. Keep running, and you'll only hurt us all.

He is referring to modding his PS3 that was NOT under legal contract. As far as i am concerned when you hit accept you are bound not to tamper with THAT console the one with the account. Tampering with evidence; again another claim from sony an evil being i would not trust with helping my grandma bake cookies simply because she likes mario and is yet to be proven as is the statement from sony that he fled to south America. If he fled to south America how did sony find out? Did they kidnap him and put out the message to win a case they were unsure about? Again unfounded, unproven statements so until we have proof shut up instead of reinforcing "Guilty until proven innocent"
This happened on Thursday didn't it? So if Geo hadn't gone to South America, or if he didn't wipe the drive, or if ANYTHING contrary to SONY's claims had arisen, why is that not reported on either? He's had a week to respond and say "Not in South America" or "I'm here for this reason" or "I didn't deny a court order"

I'm saying this is suspicious and I'm willing to bet it's all true based on the circumstances.

So no, I don't think I will shut up, and my thoughts are mine to reinforce as I wish, whether or not you want to see/hear them

If I buy a chair and the seller asks me to sign a paper saying I won't let any Black or Jewish people sit in it do they then have the right to sue me if I do?
Uh yeah they do, because by agreeing to the terms of buying the chair, you go into a voluntary contract, and yes hypothetically they could sue you for it.

But then again you don't have to buy the chair.

I doubt Sony's lawyers are such idiots that they would officially claim that Geohot tampered with evidence without being sure he did.

Uhh Guys, HE DIDN'T RUN! IN FACT, SONY KNEW HE WAS GOING TO SOUTH AMERICA Sony is trying to pull shit while he is out of the country.

Your concerns are completely unfounded. To the contrary, Mr. Hotz has gone above and beyond what he has been required to do. Mr. Hotz was ordered to provide his hard drives and storage devices on which any circumvention devices were stored-- nothing more. As your co-counsel is aware, Mr. Hotz is currently out of the country, so your unilateral demand to have him provide the controllers by noon tomorrow is not only unreasonable, but simply not possible. No explanation is necessary as Mr. Hotz fully complied with the terms of the Court's order.
If it was actual flight, Sony would have been crowing about it.

Hahaha, told you he would just flame the HD and run. Yes you can recover data from an HD, but if you no how, you can completely destroy any data on one, beyond recovery. Just that the average computer user doesn't know.

Anyway, dumb move. Ah well.
Well ya that what cornerd people do he knew he was going to lose
