It also depends in what way their codifying the game, improving a shooter is one thing. Turning a survival game into a wanna be cod is another. Some good points though.
And honestly, I'm torn. I mean, I likes me my niche games.

But if the general consumer didn't reward samey brown shooter syndrome, we wuoldn't be in this mess at all.

man, i seriously wonder who the hell runs sales predictions at EA.

I probably said this before, but ill say it again; i predict major financial problems for EA this year.
I can't tell where the problem actually started. Did they actually forecast over 5 million copies? I think the first two games have only reached the 5 million mark combined.

I don't konw if I can really blame the forecaster that much. Had Dead Space 3 been another horror game like its predecessors then it might have done that well... might have. I don't know where they get double previous game sales but whether or not they are to blame is really depends on what the forecaster said.

If they said, we MAY sell 5 million copies and then the rest of the managers rolled out s budget that required all that then it isn't their fault at all. If they forecasted 6 or 7 million copies then the EA managers may not have been so wrong in their actions of budgetary decisions. Either way, it is the managers' role to review forecasting data and methodology and decide how reliable it is. Every business knows that forecasting is part guess work.

Even so, it's a combination of three groups not fully understanding the other. There's the product design team that drastically changed the game's direction (e.g. Making Nightmare on Elm Street an action movie with no horror. Horror fans won't buy it when they know it isn't horror and non-horror fans don't even pay attention to horror film ads anyways), the forecasters based their numbers on the premise that the game is at least in the same genre of gaming, it wasn't, and the managers signing off on the budget were apparently not looking at the whole picture like they're paid to do.

What you really need to find out is who signed off on the tremendous budgets for various departments (especially who spends such ridiculous amounts on marketing, a big budget and an insanely huge budget are two different things) and who signed off on the idea of converting a horror IP in to action. Those two people or groups need to be reevaluated.

Well my most played game is ArmA /ArmA 2 as I find CoD boring (other than some local muck around MP), so feel free to ignore my opinions as I don't share the masses views.

I'm surprised there's gonna be another Army of Two game

they never were that good, but admittedly it's now like tradition for my former roommate and I to just play them anyway lol

Maybe companies will eventually realize that adding on multi-player co-op is often a gigantic waste? Or maybe, instead of trying to make you buy a second copy, they could just go back to split-screen co-op?
That was actually my problem with it. I accepted the co-op in RE5 because I could play split screen, but I won't go with the online pass, 2 copy version of it. This is where it failed the most. When will they realize that people still like playing in the same room as other people?

Unrealistic numbers killed it, or EA just wanted to screw over Visceral Montreal, like they useally do to developers.

The sad thing is, with companies hoarding old IPs and not doing anything with it, Dead Space might end up VERY dead.

I hope they sell the IP to some Indie team, who can make good horror games out of it.
Oh, man, I would LOVE for this to happen.
Anyway.
That's a real shame, I really liked the Dead Space franchise.
I understand EA sucks but they never really did anything to me until now.
Feels kind of special, being able to hop onto this bandwagon of unbridled hate.

It's a proven bankable commodity. Of course there will be Dead Space 4. Just like the inevitable Mass Effect 4.

However, considering the franchise has be turned into a joke (ala Mass Effect), Dead Space is already dead to me (no pun intended).
I'd hesitate to say at this point.

The new Tomb Raider game has outsold Dead Space in 2 days and sales have been sluggish at best for the game. If this was close to a holiday season, yeah it'd be fine. Sales would spike and everythin would be fine.

However we're nowhere near the holidays and Dead Space hasn't cracked a million units yet while Tomb Raider was able to do it in two days (unconfirmed from anythin other than a tweet, so take it with a grain of salt for now). Sales are slowin down even more week to week.

Heck, here's an even better example of how screwed Dead Space 3 is.

At the moment Dead Space 3 is sellin just about the same amount of games per week as Aliens Colonial Marines. Aliens Colonial Marines, the game that had the absolute worst press up until the recent Sim City debacle. If that doesn't bring up alarm bells about the long term viability of this game and the franchise as a whole I dont know what would.

Well if they listened to the massive outcry against co-op and how they want it to be a horror game vs a stupid shooter with characters spitting out dumb fucking one-liners back and forth then maybe it'd have done better. Not even including the dumb decision to have the characters get knocked over constantly as a gameplay mechanic, that's super fun.

Even if this isn't confirmed or EA denies it, I know a few people who lost interest with 3 just because of the amount of crap they wound up doing with it.

Doesn't matter. They set a unreasonably high goal and never would have met it.

EA isn't even trying anymore at this point to hide their evil machinations. Every gamer knows how corporate bullshit they are so EA might only play up their image and look like true antagonists. Of course the only real gain in that approach is it might boosts interest in a competitors product. So maybe they're just trying to boost the economy? This is considering EA isn't run by people with severe mental impairment and without souls. With this post's stupidity paired with this news, I hope someone's brain is now leaking out their nose.

A great series was given unrealistic goals, even changed dramatically all just to make more profit. And now that the game hasn't met those goals the developer is being made to pay for it - they're firing parts of the dev team less than a month after the damn game came out. This is not going to end well and it actually may be the first time in history that EA has directly pissed me off.

You guys don't want me as your enemy.
It's KoA Reckoning all over again.
This isn't really true, 38 only partnered with EA to publish the game and they really went down the toilet when they took a risk and unfortunately released a lacklustre game which effectively bankrupt the company. So not EAs fault (that time anyway).
Not really pointing this to EA, was just referring to the unrealistic expectations that brought that game down.

I figured this might happen, given that EA said Dead Space 3 would have to sell 5 million in order for them to keep the franchise alive. An unrealistic goal, considering that Dead Space 3 had NONE of the marketing Dead Space 2 had.

Oops....But I guess that's what happens when you turn a sci-fi horror game into Halo all in the name of "Broadening the audience." The audience doesn't need broadened. If a player doesn't want to piss his pants because the monsters in the game have a tendency to jump out of the walls and go 'Boo' every ten seconds, then he won't get it.

With the way it was going, good. I would prefer Dead Space as a fun game that completely fails at horror than an action game pretending to be scary so if they go with the latter than I invite them to politely die along with all the other ruined IPs.
