I want a recount!

nah but jokes aside you can't really call them victorious when beating them with less than 1%, not in my book at least.

To be honest, I think the main focus of this year's March Mayhem was round 5 (Valve vs Zynga), where gamers finally put aside their differences and united under Valve to finally knock Zynga(lings) from MM. Can we not have Zynga for the next one?

That plan can backfire. What if in the next one we're unable to rally enough support in time to counter Zynga and then they (god forbid) actually win??
Not trying to be pessimistic here....oh, wait, gahh I am being pessimistic, but I'm just trying to show the different possibilities! :(

OT: I voted for Valve so yay Valve!

Valve used the same tacitics this year as Turbine did last year, but there has not been one post saying Valve cheated.

Yet there were still members saying Turbine cheated last year and drawing a clear distinction between forum ads and a launcher ad (at the begining of this years MM).

Can some elements of the Escapists finally stop piling the hate on Turbine?

I have to say that i feel pretty down about Bioware losing but I definitely still respect Valve and their own accomplishments. Bioware you are a winner for and hold a special place in my nerdy little gamer heart. After that comes Blizzard and Valve though so let us hear it for the top getting what they deserve!

Hooray.

Also, phew. That margin was getting dangerously narrow. I was sure Bioware were going to take the lead.

Don't get me wrong, I rather like Bioware. Mass Effect was good stuff and I'm currently enjoying Dragon Age. But against the makers of the Half Life series, Portal, L4D and Team Fortress? Yeah... no. My vote went Valve's way.

Still, it's nice to see that both finalists were developers that put a great deal of effort into story and characters and the like. Y'know, as opposed to just focusing on pretty graphics and gaudy explosions. It's a good sign. Well, I think so anyway.

Congrats Valve.

I voted Bioware. But they're both great developers and deserved to be pitted against eachother in the end. I'm glad it was at least a close race.

the plots arn't the same but you are correct that the underlying ideas of building up forces for a final ending (affected by your actions throughout the game) are the same but that is mostly a byproduct of trying to create a gaming experience that is different for each player while trying to maintain the main plot points.

"Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's March Mayhem: Developer's Showdown and for the new communities members, we hope you stick around and enjoy everything The Escapist has to offer." - Valve Becomes the New March Mayhem: Developer's Showdown Champion Article

More like:

"When they touch down, we'll blow the roof, they'll spend a month sifting through rubble, and by the time they figure out what went wrong, we'll be sitting on a beach, earning twenty percent."

Bonus points if you don't need his accent to picture the great man who said that.

bioware should have won. valve only released one game last year and bioware released two great games.
It was pretty obvious valve was going to win. As I said before.

It was FPS ( A large genre)
Vs
RPG (A smaller genre)

at that, it was also
Mostly Multiplayer hits
vs
Mostly Single Player Hits

So it was NO suprise that valve won, the ONLY suprise is that bioware got as many votes as it did.

WRONG! Team Fortress was bought by them, not made by them.

well I really thought BioWare should've won, seeing as how I thought this was based on what the developers had released since the last MM (ME2, DA:O/ DA:O:A vs. l4d2 and continued steam support?), but at least it was Valve. BioWare is still my #1 dev, but I accept the votes of the escapist like valve more.

Good game guys. Let's NEVER do this again

But This was a Triumph

Sorry Onyx, I know you hate JoCo and all, butI wouldn't have done that if you didn't say it.

Anyways...

On Topic: Glad at least something from my Bracket was Correct.
I'm glad we ended with 2 Developers that are more or less worthy of the Title, and I hope that next year involves less Hatred.

WHOO! Im pumped. I hope they have a valve steam sale now like when Gordon was named best person of all time ever. I would like me some L4D at 50.2% off please
That would actually be the most interesting way to win the competition. The company offers a discount if they win, by the percentage they won by.

Random thought but still.

OT: I'm quite happy with this, Valve is one of my (and according to MM) favourite game developers and it's nice to show them a little recognition for their work.
I think people are mentioning the discount because Valve did exactly that when Gordon Freeman won best video game character in... I think GameSpot's competition.
