This is either the work of a genius (free advertising anyone?), or the the biggest trolls ever. I think both apply.

Remember, every single time someone makes a "Gabe is Fat" joke, the next Half Life game gets delayed another week. But this does prove at least one person in valve knows how to count to 3.

1) Fake - remember when someone made some fake artwork for the logo not too long ago?
2) "I would've been a whole lot happier to see someone sporting an Episode 3 shirt instead of Half-Life 3"

Why? Episode 2 set the next installment up for being quite drastically different (City 17 is officially done with), and HL3 should mean a longer game.

Even if it's not trolling, I'm really past the point of caring about the Half-Life series by this point.

You kept us waiting for too long, Gaben. Mr. Freeman means nothing to me now.

I thought this was reasonably old news? Saw this linked on facebook, didn't see it on here, and assumed it was fake.

OT: Good? I don't really care about HL3. I won't be buying it, but it will be interesting to see if the success of the game, which I'd presume won't change gameplay-wise, might alter the course of the industry?

I'll just have to sit through months of Valve fanboyism/hype until then... :p

After only four years, really? Guys like you are why we get yearly installments.

Half-Life 2 took 6 years and it turned out fine.

Guys seriously, there is no way they're not developing HL3. And not episode 3, that's been replaced with a full sequel. This could very well be real, Valve being who they are. Still, that doesn't give it any merit, and I wouldn't read anything into it.

Valve is a good example why games should take forever to make. 5 years or a year *cough*cod*cough* is not enough.

Fuck it all... the HL3 angst was finally starting to die down again! Damnit, cue up the new round of threads.

OT: It's either a marketing stunt or fake. That is all.

If this is supposed to be a joke Valve, then I can't laugh at all about this.
I don't know whether I trust that guy, whose name I can't spell, let alone pronounce correctly. We don't have prove whether it's actually a Valve employee, we don't even know what "local game developer event" that was.
The only reasons why I don't dismiss this as a trolling attempt, is because he wouldn't gain anything from this except our hate and bad reputation. He isn't exactly anonymous, unlike most trolls.
Also, his game is on Steam, so there is a possibility that he may know this " unnamed Valve guy".
Still, it's probably nothing.

From what I've heard, wearing a shirt for a game that hasn't been announced is typically frowned upon by the developer. I remember a story from the E3 Halo 3 was announced, some dude from Bungie was wearing a Halo 3 shirt and his fellow employees flocked to him saying "What are you doing? Zip up your hoodie until after the announcement!"

So, I wouldn't be too surprised if it was fake. It could be real, though, which I suppose would be cool to see. I was never into Half-Life myself, but it would be cool to see it finally announced.

"Guys like me" includes most of the gaming community. I'm not being unreasonable. Generally it takes a AAA developer (and YES, Valve is one) circa two years to make a great sequel, especially in a genre as straightforward as an FPS. Hell, even smaller dev teams sometimes need less time than that. Take Uncharted, for example.

It's been four years since the bite-sized add-on that was Episode 2. I may not be as big a Valve fan as you, but it will take more than that to revive the series for me that's been buried under the dust of waiting so long. It's already been seven years since Half-Life 2. And this is just at time of writing! Valve are infamous for their development time, but that shouldn't give them an unlimited development time allotment in my eyes. They can only put it off for so long before it enters the realm of absurdity. Really, besides Duke Nukem Forever, what's the most infamously delayed game in history that's already spawned internet memes?

Forgive me for being skeptical, but I'm not sure how much Valve can improve the FPS formula that they've got for Dr. Freeman. Valve may have opened the door for FPS experimentation, but with the glut of shooters on the market that have experimented with different engine and design concepts since Half-Life 2, I can see very little that Valve can innovate that hasn't already been done by someone else.

Remember, Valve will have released Alien Swarm, Portal, TF2, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Counter-Strike GO and Dota 2 before they made another Half-Life game.

If they had actually been working on the game this whole time you might have a point, but clearly they took some time off to do a half dozen other projects first.

^This.

I'm not sure how anyone could even humor the idea that Valve wouldn't be working on what is basically their poster-boy series. Does everyone just think Gabe and the development team have just been sitting around with their thumbs up their asses for the past four years? Really? Like they haven't put any thought or been working on it at all for the past four years.
