Valve Nixes Half-Life 3 Rumors

As much as I enjoy the Half-Life series, if or when Half-Life 2: Episode 3 ever comes out, I want something original. I am getting really bored of losing all of my weapons for no damn reason and Alex saying "Oh look, a gravity gun! Why don't you have it?" at the start of every episode. Then I end up ambushed by combine in houses time after time.

Don't get me wrong though, I will get it, if it comes out.

If it is true, why release a statement flat-out LYING about it?

Why not just ignore it like they always do when info leaks on something they're doing, like the accidental Dota 2 info leak? No need to be paranoid here.

Lets say this is true. Lets say Half life 3 started development on January 1st 2012. It still wouldn't be here until 2014 at the least. This is going to be a long wait...

I don't understand everyone's surprise. They took six years to make Half-Life 2. Two and a half years to make Episode Two, a 4-6 hour game with the only new addition being larger, destructible environments (in one section of the game).

They take forever to make games. That's just what they do. Expecting a full sequel just because they're doing what they've always done was naive.

Last thing we need is another Duke Nukem forever... seriously thats the last thing we ever need. So Valve, I enjoy the TF2 updates here and there, but please get on the POINT and make Episode 3!

In between Episode 2 and Now hasn't even been half the time it took for Duke Nukem Forever to come out.

And Valve have released how many games and content updates in the time between?

I have no idea where this vaporware label comes from.

Does noone understand that they are very likely developing a new game engine for half life 3? That they are trying to harvest hype and also make the game as good as possible? That this is their first "3" game? If you can think, you can easily understand the reasons for the delay.

4-year-old game with no official announcement beyond, "we plan to do 3 episodes" versus game in development for 14 years that suffered many release dates, launch trailers, developers and official announcements.

I really don't see the point of comparison that everyone seems to.

Anyway, they probably are working on HL3, let's face it. Just because they say they aren't doesn't mean they aren't.

Agreed. If Valve had actually announced Episode 3 specifically, and maybe gave a release date or some-such, then I'd see how people can call it Vaporware. As-is it's just a bunch of people assuming that there is an Episode 3 based on a tentative announcement before the first episode was even out. Still, it'd be nice if they officially announced that they changed their minds about 3 episodes.
