I figure most boycotters will buy it anyway, if not a few months after release

Also, this video gave me a giggle

He hasn't announced ANY new content. Or SAID anything new. This isn't news.

Here's the magic goddamn words.

New Levels. New Weapons. New Monsters. Anything else is just BLOODY FINE TUNING. The boycott GOES ON.

Im not in the boycott here but i do have a few complaints.

I just think that melee weapons are a bit to gimmicky, and the game really doesnt need a chainsaw. Isnt the game about teamwork and the likes, anyone with a melee weapon is trying to be a hero and will be running out in front of the people with guns.
Expert + Axe + Shotgun = Instant Incap

Wait, how were we owned?

We got what we wanted - a promise of support for the old game, so we don't have to buy L4D2 right away.

Seems to me like people against boycotting got owned - all of you said nobody would notice it and nobody would care. Guess the higher-ups care.
This makes no sense.

Either, A) you're right and the boycott convinced them to continue to support L4D (meaning fewer people will buy L4D2) or B) you're wrong and they were planning on supporting L4D from the beginning (meaning fewer people will buy L4D2).

Option B is the likeliest. You threatened them with not buying L4D2- you got what you wanted and you're STILL not buying L4D2. Valve must be HORRIBLE negotiators.

Who said I'm not buying it? I might buy it. A year after the release. A whole year, because I won't pay full price for L4D2.

We also agree with our customers that there needs to be an interoperability plan for players of L4D1 and L4D2, as multiplayer games are driven by the cohesiveness of their community."

Did anyone else breathe a great big sigh of relief after reading that?

The whole thing with Left 4 Dead is that you can replay it how many times you want to, because it never turns out the same way. So the game won't be "finished" until your attention span runs out, really.
This was an original selling point of the game but it simply is not true. The only thing that makes it different are the item spawns, which aren't random either. It's just different.

Tank and witch spawns always play off of each other in Coop as do weapons and items. The AI director is exploitable and predictable.

So, often, it does turn out the same way. Who you play with has a bigger impact on how the game turns out than anything else. Playing with the same four people on the same four campaigns about 30 times has resulted in same experiences happening multiple times. "Witch will be here." "No guns here, that means we'll get them in X place so play conservatively."

Versus is the only mode that is actually different.

Anyway, Gabe's words are reassuring, but it's not proof of anything. He simply restated what Chet said. The L4D2 forums on the steam forums shows that pretty much nobody was really 'reassured' by Gabe saying what was already said.

Yeah, but if you're taking that attitude, then there's no reason to believe it's coming out at all. Deciding to only believe the talk you don't like is just idiocy.
There's more than talk about L4D2. There are gameplay videos. There is a cinematic.

Further, the talk about L4D2 matches what they've shown. They haven't shown anything for L4D stuff.

Not really. All that could mean is that I can play the L4D campaigns if I own L4D in L4D2. This doesn't imply that I can play with L4D1 people if I'm playing L4D2 and own both L4D1 and L4D2.

The most exciting thing about this news is L4D1 and L4D2 will be multiplayer compatable. The most disappointing this is, still no episode 3 :/

Edit: just read the post above mine. I know that it could mean any number of things. I choose to be an optimist.

You didn't have to buy L4D2 right away anyway. At the end of the day, the higher-ups only care about who gives them money. It certainly isn't us getting owned because we're the ones who didn't get pissy after a little change and refuse to support a company that works hard on bringing us brilliant games.

I bet you all fifty bucks that all those whining tools buy the game when it's all their Steam/Xbox Live buddies are playing.

This "boycott" is retarded.

The major flaw I've seen with L4D1 is that there's no story except what you make for yourself and waaaaaaay to little content. I don't care if I can play the same four maps on different settings or with different people, it's still the same map I beat the first weekend I had the game. L4D2 is going to have new maps, weapons, zombies and characters (even if I despise the image of deep south hillbillies with a conman on the side) and it'd be icing on the cake if the old characters could be put into some of the maps for L4D2 or have some place in the second game.

But, good on VALVe for shutting up retards who panicked to early.

Gaaah. If you talk to me, use correct tenses. Next time I just won't bother to read this.

You don't seem to understand WHY we are mad. This is an ONLINE game. If you don't buy the sequel or add-on or whatever, you are left behind everyone else. So:

a) you either are left with a dying game, because 99% of the time developers just abandon old games after they have released a sequel
b) you must buy the game, because everyone else has and you can't play online alone. I mean, you can, but then why buy the game in the first place?

Finally someone understood. I'm talking about that Valve quote.

See, they agree with our demands. And they have assured that we will be able to play L4D1 with L4D2.

Report me to then, because i feel the same as him, thats not trolling its the truth, I can't believe VALVE of all companies has people angry because a game is coming out to early. You spent $60 about 8 months ago for a game, and i'll admit is sucks that it wasn't a DLC announcement like I thought/hoped it would be, but suck it up, Video games are for entertainment, and if your into L4D as much as I am then you have probably already got your moneys worth. (my view is like paying for a movie, average movie is about 2 hours, you spend ten dollars to see it therefore $60 game should get me at least 12 solid hours of enjoyment). This Boycott seems very senseless to me, your not going to buy a game because its coming out to early, and you feel its robbery, but the average person spends even more than $60 a month on things like fast food, snacks, coffee etc.

Use correct tenses? That's a bold yet incorrect attempt at ridicule. Left behind everyone else, eh? You might even say you're left for de- NO, this are serious discussion D:<

Ok so I get that, I understand where you're coming from, now I want to know why exactly this is a problem. Why can't you just move onto the next game like everyone else?

ALSO: Take time with your reply, by all means, I can see you have other people to deal with as well.

Exactly this. I simply don't understand why there's such a huge hubbub over the new content being released as a new standalone game as opposed to DLC. Presumably free DLC.

My opinion is that if you don't want new content for a game, that's fine, then don't pay for it. But don't ***** and "boycott" a (traditionally excellent) company that is going to charge you for a product.
