It'd be funny if none of the reviews had to do with the news report and it really is just a terrible book...<.<

Dr. Carole was misrepresented on her views on video game violence. I hope you understand that it was the publication that chose to represent Dr. Carole's views in this light, and that the statement was taken out of context. Her books also do not condemn the use of video games.

It is clear, however, that this statement has unintentionally caused readers some deep emotional turmoil and we would like to rectify the situation.

This was posted on all of the negative reviews of the book. What do you think guys have we been hating on the wrong person or is this just a sad attempt at defending herself?

Ah, when we nerds get pissed off we can do some awesome things every now and then.
Though they should've seen this coming, same thing happened when Mass Effect was called a "rape simulator" about 3 years ago.
Amen brotha lol

[sarcasm] Ya, forms of peaceful civil protests are bad. To hell with those people who took seats in restaurants when they wouldn't be served. I mean they were wasting those business's time that could have been used serving actual customers. Seriously these people are so immature, they should really just grow up and sit in their place while people treat them like second class citizens.[/sarcasm]

Honestly, no one is getting hurt aside from the people originally spewing the slander, and even then it is only an economic loss. Bitching about people who aren't complacent with slander and inequality are even worse than those using "Immature" means.
Right, I forgot how terrible it is to be a gamer these days, what with the lack of rights that we have and the whole being treated as second-class citizens and whatnot.

Please. People bombing her book aren't out there fighting for civil rights or anything, so don't try and make these tantrums out to be anything more then what they are. Comparing this to the actual civil rights movement is insulting as hell. Did you actually just compare that to this?

And I'm not saying people should be complacent. I'm saying they should approach this in a more mature manner by ignoring her (like we should to all IRL trolls). What good is all this going to do other than piss her and Amazon off and make us all look like a bunch of hyper-sensitive children? What grand change to the world will these bombings make? Here is a hint: not much.

One thing is most assuredly will do it give her and her messages more attention and justify in the minds of all those Fox viewers, just how childish us gamers really are.

Here is the response some people who gave her book bad reviews are getting,

"Dr. Carole was misrepresented on her views on video game violence. I hope you understand that it was the publication that chose to represent Dr. Carole's views in this light, and that the statement was taken out of context. Her books also do not condemn the use of video games.

It is clear, however, that this statement has unintentionally caused you some deep emotional turmoil and we would like to rectify the situation.

Please contact [email protected] with your address and contact information, and we will be in touch to clear up any misunderstandings that may have been caused. It is important that we create a dialogue regarding this situation.

Please be aware that there are real people who are being affected by your comments. I would like to think that in knowing that, you will approach this situation in a kinder and more civil manner. Thank you.

Sincerely,

The Team at Dr. Carole Lieberman"

Whatever happened to talking to people?
You know, what every single other group (or "group" in the case of gamers) does when they feel misunderstood.

Is it really that hard to just drop her an email and check if she wasn't just misquoted or try to argue your point?
What are video game journalists doing anyway? Oh that's right, fueling the controversy to rise traffic.

What a great and mature community gamers are.

Edit: I'm not neccessarily talking about the escapist here, but the entirety of video game journalism.

It's kinda funny I remember when the escapist posted this story and all I could think was when that will happen to her like it did to Cooper Lawrence when she spoke against Mass Effect with out playing it on Fox News. OH! Before I forget PWN'D *****!

Heres the news channels that have bullsh*t news:FOX/CNBC/CNN.
They exaggerate stuff like this all the time and when I see this, I keep looking at Japan's games and notice theres almost no crime or rape in they're country. So people with common sense should understand games can't influence stuff like that.

The internet presents itself as a welcoming place full of connections and information...

...in reality it's a spiteful ***** with more weapons than you can possibly imagine.

I'm betting the latter.
I'm not petty enough to join in the fun.... actually, I might be if I had the time.
I am however proud of my fellow nerds for devising a punishment that fits the crime.
Very appropriate good flamers.

Umm what is she talking about? As far as I know rape cases have DECREASED in the last decade... prove me if I'm wrong, but how does that even make sense, especially since games have really been stepping forward into popularity in the past decade?

Reminds me of when people bombed that one woman's book on amazon after she said "I haven't played Mass Effect, but I'm sure I know what its about" or something like that. She then went on to call it a "rape simulator" among other things. Then her book was bombed with people saying "I haven't read this book, but I'm sure its about how to molest children." Or something like that.
Would I become a bad person if this made me litterally laugh out loud? (I mean, the tastefully ironic part, not the... Y'know, molestation part... ._.)

Karma... you never fail to make me happy.

A quote from a review that made me lol: The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in book covers.

love the way gamers/nerds can stand up for something we like, especially when theirs yet another stupid "big deal" person who tries to hit down on games AGAIN -o-

games isn't real, we know that. and in many cases we go to games to escape reality for a few minutes and relax for a change. people just try to find something easy to put the blame on...

in this case have anyone of them thought that people that rape isn't influenced by games but maybe sexually frustrated, look at how much sex influence our daily lives and that maybe makes them so stupid stuff like that because people don't want to have sex with crazy peopleO.- ???

Oh.......OOOOOOOOHHHH. Turns out I had no idea what we were dealing with cause I wasn't familiar with her work. But seeing the title of her book really makes me wonder who the hell would take anything this cheap so-called psychologist says seriously. With that said I officially apologize to Carol Lieberman. Had I known that you were that kind of psychologist I would have treated you way you deserve; with sympathetic disdain and disregard.
