Q: Who is worse? Advertisers, Psychiatrists, Lawyers or Politicians?
A: Someone who wants to be all four.

But heaven forbid Amazon take public opinion into account in reviews.

Just a quick thought, Ms. Lieberman; If playing games increases rape, why are you telling women to sleep with bad boys and then leave them?

Could it be that you are the one that is advocating this?
The levels of low people will stoop to for cash. Gets proven every day.

I read the response her "team" posted on the user reviews suggesting that we email her, so I've just sent something polite and respectful to her to see if she actually has an explanation (though I'm not getting my hopes up), and urged her to respond publicly so that we "create a dialogue".

Regardless of her views, as a celebrity psychiatrist I would expect her (or rather her team) to have the media/PR savvy to attempt to offer an explanation, even if it's just to try and get rid of some of the hate she's getting.

I thought it was funny, the amazon stunt. If you want to fuck with people who have no life and love games (aka, nerds), don't expect the internet to be nice to you. Thats like ticking poseiden off then going for a swim. Uhh, real smart.

Oh and I wasn't trying to make fun of the nerds responsible (saying they had no life), i'm one of them. put simply, Carole, fail. Nerds for the win!

What was she thinking when she said that? "I'll just piss off an entire sub-culture, but people who agree with me will still agree with me." *Shakes head* The poor ignorant bigot. Although what do you expect from Faux News?

This isn't Karma; it's retaliation. It's also ridiculous. We should try to be above reproach, and show Dr. Carole, FOX News, and their respective viewers WHY they are wrong, in a rational manner; not just react and try to get her book a bad rating. My mind boggles at this "Amazonbombing" (cute term), and is further boggled that it's being celebrated. WHAT? We have no right to whine and lament about video games and its community never being taken seriously when we're pulling this kind of childish crap.

Ah, when we nerds get pissed off we can do some awesome things every now and then.
Though they should've seen this coming, same thing happened when Mass Effect was called a "rape simulator" about 3 years ago.
Awesome? How about immature and embarassing.

Way to prove someone right.

Anyone else recall a very similar phenomenon happening to Cooper Lawrence during the "Mass Effect controversy" when she went on Fox News and said horrorible things about a game that she had never played let alone seen played......

It is good to see that justice is not a rare thing that only works once.
What amused me, was looking her up, brings up a sea of 1 star books, then in the 'people who viewed this also viewed...' section, MAss Effect 1 and 2, 5 stars each.

I think it's partly a shame that the 'experts' get such a virtual beating when FOX gets off without so much as a slap.

However, they must KNOW what Fox are like, and decided it was worth warping the truth for a few easy soundbites and a mention of their books on prime time.

If this keeps happening, it WONT be worth spouting what Fox want to hear to get your book mentioned, if that book is a 1 star failure the day after.

Funny thing (unless someone else noticed it earlier so in that case i apologize)

From Dr. Carole PR team
(found in most of bombers "comment this comment"
"It appears that you have recently read an article on Fox News in which Dr. Carole was misrepresented on her views on video game violence. I hope you understand that it was the publication that chose to represent Dr. Carole's views in this light, and that the statement was taken out of context."

Excelent shit from PR team who clearly cannot read when she clearly states the link between "oh so reliable bought fox news rape statistics" with games...

Seriously ...

That's what you get for acting like a complete t**t. Seriously, one would have thought that people who proclaim themselves "knowledgeable" about video games would be a little careful after the whole Mass Effect-fiasco.

On a side note, what the hell kind of book is that anyway? A book teaching so called "good girls" to manipulate men into wanting them? When did psychologists turn into an academic version of Hitch?

Love the comments in response to her PR team. It just reads like one ***** slap after another and I hope that Carole Lieberman apologizes for this.

Failing that I wonder what /b/ could do about this.

From the FoxNews article:
Carole Lieberman, a psychiatrist and book author, told FoxNews.com that sexual situations and acts in video games -- highlighted so well in Bulletstorm -- have led to real-world sexual violence.

?The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games,? she said.
Unless Fox News is making stuff up to the degree that is probably actionable, it sounds like her quote has pretty much been taken IN context. There are psychiatrists that will say anything for a buck and she is probably one of them, hoping to get some publicity for her crappy book. Karma's a *****.

It looks like her PR team is trying to get involved now. Thats funny.

Hi there,

It appears that you have recently read an article on Fox News in which Dr. Carole was misrepresented on her views on video game violence. I hope you understand that it was the publication that chose to represent Dr. Carole's views in this light, and that the statement was taken out of context. Her books also do not condemn the use of video games. If you would like to take it up with the author of the article, we can provide you with his contact information.

It is clear, however, that this statement has unintentionally caused you some deep emotional turmoil and we would like to rectify the situation.

Please contact [email protected] with your contact information, and we will be in touch to clear up any misunderstandings that may have been caused. It is important that we create a dialogue regarding this situation.

Please be aware that there are real people who are being affected by your comments. I'm sure you are a reasonable person and know we can approach this situation in a kinder and more civil manner. Thank you.

Sincerely,

The Team at Dr. Carole Lieberman

whats really funny is that none of the one star reviews these comments are on even mention the Fox News thing.

Gee, I love when gamers get wound up by some "professional" and then, to prove how well-adjusted and mature we all are, turn around and do something uber-mature like vote down their product on Amazon and encourage others to do the same. And posting her address and phone number online? That is a sure recipe to make the world view gamers in a better light.

Who honestly cares what this woman says? Anyone encouraging people to bomb this woman are almost as bad as she. Grow up, people, and ignore her like we ought to.

EDIT: and before someone jumps in here, I don't give a fuck about the Democrats. We're not running for elections. Bombing her book won't change her mind or anyone else's, so acting like maligned children is only going to do more harm than good since it gives us all a terrible reputation. Besides, video games will never be outlawed since the industry makes too much dosh and is tied to too many powerful media companies already. Stop whining, stop bombing her book and stop wasting time that could be used to play Fallout 3 or something.

This is why I hate the term "gamer". Events like this paint us "gamers" as a bunch of overly-defensive crybabies. No one is out to take out media poison away from us. Well, maybe some are (*cough* Jack Thompson *cough*) but no one takes them seriously. Besides, anyone who is easily swayed enough by the likes of Fox is not someone we need on our side anyway. Ignoring the fools is the best possible thing we can do because giving them attention just spreads their argument to a wider audience and gives them more media attention they don't deserve.

I'm not sure what angers me more: her face in her picture, the title and message of her book, or her the crap she spewed out while on Fox.
Her face.
Its definately her face. She has an extremely punchable expression on it.

OT: If I had an Amazon Id be bombing it now. How can somebody possibly make such a herpderp statement and not expect to get laughed out of town... A metaphorical town.
