While the response is indeed a little childish...I would totally go on Amazon and do the exact same thing.

It doesn't help our cause any, but it sure does feel good.

She fell victim for one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a flame war with 4Chan, but only slightly less well know is this: never go in against video gamers when rape is on the line!

Bravo, you cause me to nearly choke to death. Eating plus doubling over in laughter is not a good mix.

Yes well, reading that she's an "Emmy award winning media-psychiatrist" adding to the fact that she wrote this book with the obvious intention of getting it to sell with a catchy, provocative title suggests to me that her judgment can't be considered as fact. She's turned the whole thing into some pop-science, advising people on being manipulative bastards, as if there aren't enough of those around already.

When I finish uni I want to study deception, maybe write a couple books on the subject. That doesn't mean as soon as I have some semi-credible theories and half-baked studies I'm going to teach politicians, CEOs and everyone's mum and their dog how to lie straight to someone's face and not get caught. Sure it might pay well, but I also know once someone goes down that road their credibility is compromised. Who's to say they wouldn't commit fraud just to make sure their theories fit so they can keep making money?
If you must study these "bad girls", have some integrity; Teach people how to avoid getting sucked into one of their tricks. Also conduct some good research. A few of these reviews claim that her theories are based on no actual research. Now I don't know if these reviews are trustworthy, but I also know -combining all the things that raised red flags for me about her- she can't be trusted either.

The reviews are a fun read though.

Awesome. I'm sure this way the world will think gamers, in general, are level-headed people. Right?
You know what? No it won't, but the point is moot - nothing we do will make people like these change their minds about us. So we might as well bomb her crappy book; better than rolling over, taking her ****, and asking for more.

Besides, the kind of people who will sheepishly believe everything she says are either (a) already diehard Fox fans who wouldn't have been swayed anyway or (b) the same kind of sheep that will believe an amazon book review. We can't do anything about (a) and we hurt her book sales among (b). I'll take a partial win over a total loss any day.

"This is a poorly argued book filled with advise which has no real baring in the real world, it teaches young women that they should act sexually interested to advance in life, this is leading down a path I think is detrimental to the mental health of any woman looking for advise within these pages and frankly I would say that the behaviour this book encourages could well lead to rape."

TRUE, Ironic and Vengeful, the best kind of retribution.

I lol'd at this review of it:

"The entirety of this book is unfounded and not based in any fact or logic whatsoever. It is the kind of thing that spawns similarly unfounded and idiotic comments in news articles. The increase in real-world rapes can be attributed in large part to the production, sale and consumption of this book."

Not what it says, but because the reviewer is named "Grayson Hunt" after the main character of Bulletstorm!

Dam the irony a person saying that sex in games is bad but when in the real world it's fair game (mrs hypocrit!)

Gee, I love when gamers get wound up by some "professional" and then, to prove how well-adjusted and mature we all are, turn around and do something uber-mature like vote down their product on Amazon and encourage others to do the same. And posting her address and phone number online? That is a sure recipe to make the world view gamers in a better light.

Who honestly cares what this woman says? Anyone encouraging people to bomb this woman are almost as bad as she. Grow up, people, and ignore her like we ought to.

EDIT: and before someone jumps in here, I don't give a fuck about the Democrats. We're not running for elections. Bombing her book won't change her mind or anyone else's, so acting like maligned children is only going to do more harm than good since it gives us all a terrible reputation. Besides, video games will never be outlawed since the industry makes too much dosh and is tied to too many powerful media companies already. Stop whining, stop bombing her book and stop wasting time that could be used to play Fallout 3 or something.

This is why I hate the term "gamer". Events like this paint us "gamers" as a bunch of overly-defensive crybabies. No one is out to take out media poison away from us. Well, maybe some are (*cough* Jack Thompson *cough*) but no one takes them seriously. Besides, anyone who is easily swayed enough by the likes of Fox is not someone we need on our side anyway. Ignoring the fools is the best possible thing we can do because giving them attention just spreads their argument to a wider audience and gives them more media attention they don't deserve.

Woot!

Sweet, sweet justice.

*smug look on face*

EDIT:

Now that my initial lulz pride wore off, this was kind of a dick move to pull on her.

Shame on those of you did it, even if she had it coming.

It's pretty irrelevant after three and a half pages, but I can't stop laughing at this Amazon review.

Really? She might as well have chosen:

"Carole Lieberman, bullshit farmer" as her title.

So only 30-40 bad reviews ?

Hmm, imho it's not that bad, we're still far from the March Mayhem or 4chan effects.

This book is largely unfounded in its accusations and assertions. The points made by the author are complete stabs in the dark in areas she doesn't understand or care to understand or experience. Also, I believe that reading this book may contribute to the proliferation of sex crimes in the population and the corruption of the underage demographic.
This made me very happy. :)

[sarcasm] Ya, forms of peaceful civil protests are bad. To hell with those people who took seats in restaurants when they wouldn't be served. I mean they were wasting those business's time that could have been used serving actual customers. Seriously these people are so immature, they should really just grow up and sit in their place while people treat them like second class citizens.[/sarcasm]

Honestly, no one is getting hurt aside from the people originally spewing the slander, and even then it is only an economic loss. Bitching about people who aren't complacent with slander and inequality are even worse than those using "Immature" means.
