My mom would love this game, since she already likes to watch me play the Silent Hill and Resident Evil series. Can't wait to buy this game and kudos to the studio for coming up with a great concept.

That was surprisingly stupid. I enjoyed the Viral Campaign for Dante's Inferno but I question EAs goals with this one. It's a game for mature audiences, I don't think they care much about what their mothers will think.
It's things like that, why the medium still struggles to be taken seriously. :(

Yeah, in a way it's a very clever angle to use in marketing, but in another, targeting the mums is just more ammo for the FOX types who say we're aiming all 'murder simulators' at toddlers.

Of course that isn't true, but I think we shouldn't actively paint targets on ourselves and mail them free ammo.

Also, wouldn't be surprised if some of them try to sue for emotional turmoil or some crap, no matter what the disclaimers said that they signed.

Alright, I have to admit--that was both awesome and hilarious. I mostly approve of this marketing tactic.

HOWEVER.

Isn't the mainstream public opinion of videogames ALREADY bad? I mean, do we really need to subject clueless mothers to the most violent and disturbing imagery that games have to offer? That's just ASKING them to crusade against videogames.

Putting aside the potential lashing out against games that this may cause, that was fantastic. I mean, just watching someone say "Fire... It's very fireful" made me almost fall out of my chair. Visceral, I salute you (but be warned that conservative Americans are about to rip you apart).

My mother would definitely hate this. She's a nurse, and hates being reminded of the macabre nature of her job.
Is she daily made fight mutants that can split your skull in a second?

Best domain name ever.

And brilliant marketing scheme, I think they should do this but give Homicidal people Hello Kitty!

I really wonder who they are trying to advertise to here with this... Young people like the idea that their games freak out their Mom. The game is rated 'M' which should mean that young people shouldn't be playing it.

I don't think Visceral is taking the right approach here.

Not that I really needed more reasons to buy it. But this is definitely another one. Totally taking off on tuesday.

Gonna strap in with my turtle beach and an adult diaper for when it scares the shit out of me.

Its a little funny (if not fake)I guess, but I've never really needed my Moms approval or lack thereof to play a game lol.

Strange thing is my mom actually wanted to try the first dead space, until she found out it was an fps and not a survival horror game like amnesia.

Okay, I've had enough of reading comments about how "this will hurt the industry". You mean the reaction shots of Paranormal Activity's test screenings hurt its sales or the movie industry? It's meant to be a joke and you're no different than the people you're claiming will use this advertisement as ammunition against games if you're taking it this seriously.

Don't worry, be happy.

Whether the responses were fake or otherwise, I have to agree in part with some of the sentiments raised.
Particularly that one line "You want to have fun... Killing people?" Sure, in Dead Space they're no longer people, but disgusting, nigh-on possessed, mutated shells of their former selves so killing them is less akin to murder and more akin to a mercy killing, but the fact that such gratuitous violence is generally viewed as such light entertainment worries me somewhat.

To me, it's like the difference between Saw and a David Lynch movie. Only Saw is Dead Space and David Lynch is Silent Hill 2. One is gratuitously violent with little context aside from AWWW SHIT NIGGA and the other is a reflection of deeply complex and fractured psychology, which makes any gore used far less exploitative feeling.

Eh, aside from that, Dead Space isn't even scary, I'll stick to Silent Hill to get my horror fix, cheers.
