FOR THE GREATER GOOD!
I will play if it is done well and I get to play the Tau. Fuck the rest of the races (cept the 'crons and 'nids) I want my Communist, mech piloting, plasma rifle sporting, samurai blueberries!

It will be..... name a AAA MMO which isn't?
Guild Wars. And it sells.
You are lucky I already used Lex Luthor today once. Okay, fine.

WRROOOOOOONG!!!

Not a MMO. Nope. Not even the devs claim it's an MMO. It's an CORPG (in this case, cooperative online RPG). Everything instanced. Even towns. You can't see anything outside of the town. Not an MMO. Same as Diablo 2 isn't an MMO, or GunZ isn't a MMO, or other instanced games.

I'd play it if:
a) it's done well for all races,
b) it isn't subscription-based,
and c) there's enough incentive for people to play as more than just power-armoured brutes.

I myself would probably play an Eldar; I play them on the tabletop.
Agreed on all points.
I'd like to add that I'd want proper combat. In a universe as bloody and visceral as 40k, I'd damn well better be able to do more than just click on a guy and watch my character poke him until he's dead.
For what it's worth, Warhammer Online had point and click combat, but it always felt real. I winced in pain the first time I tried out my shiney new "Go Fer the Janglies" power (seriously) on a bunch of Dwarves, only to see them crumple like a paper towel. That had just been kicked in the bollocks by a Black Orc in full plate.

I'll be honest, I think Mass Effect style combat would work best with 40k, maybe with a slightly improved melee interface. Still, even if it's just clicking on enemies, if they keep the atmosphere it'll be miles better than The Old Republic :)

I'll wait impatiently to see how it turns out.If it looks even remotely decent,I'll try to get in a beta/trial.
I'm not a fan of the pay every month, but I'm willing to overlook this little obstacle if the game lets me play as a necron lord or a tau commander.
Last I heard, the races were Orks. There as something about Imperium, Eldar and Chaos too, but I can't think of a single reason why anyone would want to play them (Oooh I can, I'll play a Catachan Jungle Fighter. And ONLY a Catachan Jungle Fighter) when they can play DA ORKSEZ!

Starcraft IS the 40k universe, just with a sense of humor. Having drunken guys in jeeps doesn't make the Starcraft universe any less about "ridiculous" power armor, space elves, and space bugs!

DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!
xD
Butyasrsbussnsstiem, would be soo awsome to play as a terminator or Dreadknought. Then especialy the Chaos. The only time the "evil" side of things would look so awsome. To make it atleast somewhat successful, you'd need Chaos and Imperium, Imperial Guard, Elder, and Orks. Also would need a solid story line lore thing, to keep things updated, and add new things. Other then those two things, sounds like it'd be atleast trippy to try.

There's a pretty big difference between Starcraft and W40k, mate.

Darksiders is one of the most underrated AAA titles I have seen so far. It's weakness was it's failure of a game design. Mixing impressive and intuitive fighting mechanic with spectacular yet subtle details and effects, with f**king ridiculous puzzle solving. If they put half as much work into the visuals and effects details, the game would be on my radar.

However, if they would fail on the gameplay level, all of the above would loose its merit. But I want more than just good gameplay from an MMO. Especially a Warhammer 40k game, known for it's awesome missile range graphics.

__
By the way, WH40k is by far the best looking missile range strategy game I have ever seen, so it would be interesting if they'll be able to make an MMO look as awesome when in spectacular battles.

I can't figure out how StarCraft is less ridiculous than Warhammer 40,000. Maybe if you're only comparing the humans, I suppose, but they're still both 'futuristic' fantasy, Rule of Cool settings riddled with 'psychic energy' and conspicuously low-tech humans who emphasize the worst aspects of humanity.

In my mind, at least Warhammer 40K acknowledges its fantasy nature enough to have a cosmology. StarCraft is still in denial.

Okay. Well then there isn't one I guess. Ah well I'm cool with subscriptions anyway. Huge servers, loads of new content and updates (that is if the MMO is good), I'll gladly pay for it. Glad I didn't get GW on Steam then, when it was cheaper, I like my MORPG's with that extra M.

Just sayin' but trying to argue that SC has a better sense of humor than 40K is like saying that Will Farrell can do Shakespeare.

And, as I know everyone will do so as well, 40k predates SC by at least a decade, SC was originally going to be a 40k game, and Heinlein wrote the book on all power armor in the history of Sci Fi.

The Emperor of Mankind is the leader of the Imperium of Man, and is described by the Imperial Ecclesiarchy as the Father, Guardian and God of humanity. He has sat immobile within the Golden Throne of Terra for over ten thousand years. Although once a living man, his shattered body can no longer support life, and remains intact by a mind itself sustained by the daily sacrifice of thousands of lives. He has sacrificed his immortal life in the service of Man.
Ridiculously awesome and over the top, but ridiculous none the less.

Hence the wait for E3 and more information.
You can't make a WH40K game with only eldar, orks and humans(space marines included).
You need the giant "bugs",the "undead", the pseudo good guys...I hope the devs are smart enough to put alot of content at launch, lest it becomes one of those MMOs that need 5 or 6 updates to be good, but falls off everyone's radar before it happens.

why do they always have Funk do the W40k articles? I don't care if you prefer StarCraft, you don't need to spout off about it in every article.

Nothing against you mate. it's just that we get it, you like StarCraft more:p
It's a great series and all, but we get it. And your too damn entertaining to rip limb from limb.

in other news, if there is no NPC squad command. ain't worth it, the main Hero characters in Warhammer 40k are almost always high ranking Commanders after all. *sigh* If only they were listeing to me:p
