hmm... interesting idea, letting the player play from the eyes of U.S.S opperatives, or even spec-ops.

but breaking canon by killing Leon, Claire, or Ada? Sorry, that will not fly with me.

But otherwise, interesting take.
Pretty much, yes. The idea of destroying canon doesn't sit well with me, especially since there are other ways to execute a very similar game that doesn't require the destruction of canon.

Well maybe it's only non-canon if you play as the bad guys. Play as zombies though? Does this mean I can be an iron maiden? Also, isn't bio organic a bit redundant?

A zombie meatshield?

..... It sure isn't survival horror, definately weren't lying about changing that.
Call of Duty + Resident Evil + Gears of War + ??? = Profit?

Wow. I don't think I've ever been more unimpressed by a game trailer. Granted I'm not a Resident Evil fan, but with previous games I could at least appreciate the suspense of it. With this, it just looks dumb; Call of Duty rip off or not. Using a zombie as a meatshield? REALLY?! Looks like another franchise is gonna lose its identity to the ages...

I'm hoping the zombies are more of a threat than the trailer shows. I really don't see much of anything but a straight up shooter. Was hoping they'd make it a little more survival horror? I think I'm definitely going to get this game though and see what it has to offer. Then I'll make my final opinion. Not entirely sure where I stand with the killing of some loved characters from the series though. :/ Don't think I have it in me to kill Claire! D: Probably just let her kill me if I encounter her as a villain. -.-

Opinion of the game asid... do you know how long I've wanted to see the Resident Evil 2 opening in HD!?.

It looks interesting, Left for Deadish. I'll get it regardles. And yeah, I seriously hope that the T-103 capsule drop isn't a kill streak, but more like the Big Daddy suit in Bioshock 2. This could be so awesome if they follow Capcom's tradition of overblown storytelling and plot.

Um... we don't actually see Mr. Kennedy getting shot. So I'm sure you'll excuse my persistent doubt in the matter there.

Really, though, I have no idea why Capcom is suddenly pulling out canon-free games like this one and Dead Rising: Off The Record. Are they really necessary?

All of a sudden, I can see why Keiji Inafune left Capcom...

Oh, look, the "cool" kids are making fun of us again. It's been so long. Yes, shame on us Resident Evil fans who found a video game to enjoy, ooh, were we dumb to find pleasure in a video game series that stretched out seven games (0, 1, 2, 3, C:V, Outbreak, Outbreak 2) that we enjoyed, and even some (now I only speak for my self in all of this of course) other games that were different and some of us said, were not our thing (Survivor, Survivor 2, Survivor 4, Gaiden) and we moved on, we didn't raise a fuss, we didn't scream for blood, we said, oh well, and went back to the games we enjoyed. We were very silly that way.

Then a game came from the heavens called 4 Resident Evil, and it was different, no longer was inventory management so strict, so tiny, no longer did we have to find places to hold our keys, monsters were no longer scientific monsters, zombies were a thing of the past, and ammo, ammo was everywhere, it was nice...for some. But for others, myself included, we did not favor this new style of game, we rather have enemies that we couldn't always kill, because we needed the ammo, but we were mislead, dumb, so all the cool kids at the time had said. Yes, we were told, again, and again, how stupid we were for liking the other, long list of past Resident Evil games instead of 4 Resident Evil. But we're okay, we looked back, and we played the old games again, we still love them, we still play them.

Then something happened, a new game came out Resident Evil 5, how everyone was excited, perhaps zombies would come back, no, but lickers? yes, we got lickers, rejoice! Then the game came out, and while it wasn't our thing, it still wasn't the Resident Evil we grew to love years ago, the cool kids hated it too, why? Because the evil Capcom changed 4 Resident Evil into...this?! And the cool kids called Resident Evil 5 names, and said how stupid it was. And we, the Resident Evil fans, who liked the old games better sat back and watched as the cool kids yelled about all the little things changed from 4RE to RE5, some of us laughed watching. The cool kids were upset about things in much the same way we were just a few years before. Heh, I guess maybe we could, just all get along.

And again, a new Resident Evil comes. This one is even more different than the last ones, as fans we come out and say how silly it looks, how even though we understand it's a simple story that does not affect the old games we love, we still voice our opinions. The cool kids, still upset about RE5 not being 4RE Special Edition, remember us, the fans of the old, and they mock us again. Just like old times. It's kind of nostalgic, it wasn't that long ago, what with all the attention on RE5 instead of us fans, but the cool kids have to exert their cool-ness some how. So, I guess we shall wait in the shadows, when you forget about us, because you will, and we'll sit, watching, listening, to when Mass Effect - Effect Awesome comes out, and has you kill Shepperd back in Mass Effect 1, and of course you get to use the mind control technology on the dinosaurs you got to bring back through the time portal to kill Shep and his friends with sharp pointy dino-bacteria teeth.

Fans, are fans, and it's only a matter of time before what you like gets screwed over too.

Odd thought here...but...maybe Capcom is going with the 'Time Travel' plot concept?

It wouldn't be beyond them.

I like the idea of a four-player co-op Resident Evil game. That has a lot of promise. But do I have to play as a heartless murderer that can kill Leon? That makes me want to avoid this game. And really, why are we trying to kill all the cops? Did I miss something? You'd think Umbrella would have bigger things to worry about than a ROOKIE cop who's on his first day of the job. Keep in mind that Leon is not yet the ace that we all know and love at this point in the storyline
Yeah this essentially just killed any interest I had in this game at this point. I personally don't really enjoy the whole "Murder the heroes" scenario, especially since at this point old Leon is the underdog and to have made it this far he's had to have been through a lot. I never have enjoyed the "murder the heroes" scenario though, whether it's a "what if" or not.
Someone sound the sirens and break out the party favors. I am not alone in the universe!!! I knew someone else had to share my feelings on killing heroes.

I guess this could work if the story involved these guys going back in time or something. That would explain the dude cloaking in the helicopter (he shouldn't be seen with dem blue advanced goggles, man), and assassinating some random dude on his first day as a police officer.

I don't like the generic characters though, and holding zombies hostage is a bit... dumb. I'll try the game, of course, but I'm not expecting much. Capcom should try making a Resident Evil like the old ones, but with some changes so people used to the action REs could play it without being annoyed.

So is this a retcon, or will time-travel be involved? (Hey, don't look at me like that. This is normal for Capcom)

I like the idea of playing as the bad guys, though. Hunk was always my favorite in RE2.

Do we have a choice of, maybe, betraying Umbrella and help the survivors out instead of killing them?
I sure hope so. I'm attached to the cast of the Resident Evil series.

Same.

Honestly I get the feeling some higher ups here have said 'look, the data says lots of players are playing games with faceless special forces with guns shooting each other, so lets make a game with our IP where you play faceless special forces with guns shooting each other'

I lament the loss of the days where Resident Evil was a game about surviving slow shambling zombies. I want my zombie games back. Resident evil these days isn't resident evil anymore to me.

Can anyone recommend me a game that plays in a setting like the original 1-3 Resident evils or something like The Walking Dead? I need my zombie itch scratching. Itchy. Tasty.

I play Dead Rising 2 for that.
