Hell NO. No sequel is necessary. At all. Watchmen is one of those IP's which should just be left with the first one.

The ending to Watchmen does leave it open for seconds, but that doesn't mean there should be.

Hmmm...to be honest I'd be slightly curious to see branched off comic series off the individual heroes *inner nerd slaps him* NO!! BAD KEYMASTER BAD!!

Leave the classics be you greedy Hollywood bastards! Let the rust in antiquity like they were meant to!

No, no, no, no, no...
Watchmen was a graphic novel, a damn good one and a great movie. Adding more backstory would make it the graphic novel variant of Halo. And adding a new installment to the series would butcher it far more than that shitty beat-em-up game did.

I rented the movie because of the good reviews and thought it was.. Okay. That's it.

If only the whole movie could have approached anywhere near the awesomeness of the first few scenes... :(

Not really interested in a sequel.

VERBOTEN!!!!!

In neither print, film, nor slashfic; a Watchmen sequel/prequel would be disgusting to put it kindly.

no no no no no a thousand times no. While Im not a hardcore fan of the novel, I do feel that it would be a disgrace to the original book(and a sucker punch to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons) if they try to make a sequel or prequel to the original without something penned by Gibbons or Moore being created beforehand. and the odds of that happening are very slim(especially since Moore would be all to aware that his potential next work within the Watchmen unviverse would be quickly made into another movie or a mini-series)

Let's face it; comic book movies that make a lot of money make crappy spinoffs inevitable. It happened with Spider-Man 3 (the "Back in Black" story arc), it happened with The Dark Knight (that awful "Joker" graphic novel), it happened with X-Men (Origins: Wolverine).

For those of us with taste, the only option left is to stuff our ears with cotton and shut our eyes when a group of awkward teenage "rebels" walks by talking about how the best part of Watchmen 2: Electric Boogaloo was when Dr. Manhattan resurrected Rorschach.

Oh come on guys! It's going to be great! I think they're going to model it after this concept video [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDDHHrt6l4w].

(How has this not been posted yet?)

Actually, after thinking about it, I will say this. I loved the original book, and I thought the movie was pretty good (not great, but I think a lot of that is based on the original material anyway) but I will say that there is POTENTIAL for alternate stories in the universe to be good. The problem, though, as always, is that they have to get the right person to write the material. That said, I'm almost certainly not going to see it, if it does indeed come to pass.

This. There should be no sequel to the book or the movie. The reason the ending was so good in the book was because it left it up to you to see how things went, but a sequel would just ruin this.

NO.

Hasn't Watchmen been treated badly enough already? They will NEVER be able to make a film that even approaches the complexity and scope of the graphic novel. This sequel should not be made.
You have to admit the film was very well made.
On topic, this a very bad idea, Watchmen began with the death of a awesome character and
Ended with one

To me, this isn't even a nerdy, fanboy-y response of "how dare they!" or something. But more of a how-the-hell-would-they-even-do-that sort of variety

I say heck no to any additions to Watchmen. I also agree any additions to the Watchmen would dilute the story and ruin the entire thing. I loved the original graphic novel and the movie, but continuing it just won't work! Even if Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons were to make a prequel based on the Minute Men it just wouldn't hold water any better then a colander and a sequel just couldn't work at all considering the original ending in the graphic novel.

Fanboys unite!

I loved the Watchmen movie, and never read the graphic novel, although I hope to as soon as I can. I loved the realism and pessimistic feel of the movie, but it's a movie I had to watch twice to understand. I think it had way too many flashbacks, but I guess I wouldn't understand anything if they all weren't there. What I find funny is that Nite Owl went from a coward way too scared to get into a superhero suit to a cunning superhero screwing hot chicks in his superhero flying machine.
The thing is, if there was a sequel , it would be too predictable. If I put the Watchmen in any situation, we all know what would happen. That would be my only problem, other than everyone's favourite character being killed at the end of the first movie.
So by the end of the first movie, everyone is happy and standing in a circle holding hands, bobbing up and down to 'Happy Days', as they are surrounded by a comforting stampede of unicorns, purple squirrels and floating seahorses, all singing along with glee.
How can anyone start a movie with that situation? Well, maybe you could reserect Hitler and make him nuke all the people bobbing to 'HappyDays' but that destroys the realism, doesn't it?
