I honestly don't see why thread necromancy is a bad thing. Surely if a thread has been created then its sole purpose is for it to be read and added to over time? Admittedly if it's a current news thread from years ago and someone brings it back then it could be annoying, but if it's a discussion that someone's missed then I think it should be alright if they contribute to it (albeit a tad later than everyone else)

Because Necroing a thread makes you scum. And repeating a thread gets your throat slit. Unless, naturally, you are repeating a thread about all the fucking necroing/repeat threads. In which case you are a stalwart pillar of the community.

Welcome to the escapist, I'm sure you'll find that doesn't work here and when a game gets released there's 42 threads per day about why said game is dumb.

Look up Modern Warfare you'll find at least 30 asking why people like it. When black ops 2 gets released there'll be 15 more.

I wasn't asking about forming my own opinion like anything with 2 braincells and a bran muffin in it's skull I can do that, but if you want to talk about oh say Diablo 2 and the last thread was a year ago. Well necroing that is out of the question and making a new post will probably get you "use the search bar"

But I'm sure this really comes down to, does said person care because either way they'll get yelled at for it.

Don't forget all the repeat threads on how awesome games are. Equal parts "fuck this shit" and "I fuck this shit willingly and LOVE IT". This site is a haven for double standards and hypocrisy (though that might be an internet trait overall).

The community needs to stop being hypocritical. Have it one way or the other.

Either let people make/necro threads or stop all discussion at all and let the forum die.

I agree with this; we need to decide which one pisses us off more and stick with it.

For the record I find necro threads more annoying. I'll get my torch and pitchfork.

I submit that it should be a time-sensitive thing. If a thread hasn't been active for X amount of time you make a new one.

This is only kind of related to this but I remember back when I still played World Of Warcraft I was reading the forms and someone necroed a thread form like mid burning crusade this was at the end of Wrath of the lich king, and all the person said was "you can lick your elbow." I don't.. I don't know why.

Honestly, I don't see why thread necromancy is a thing. Is it so hard to look at the date of the last post and decide whether to continue posts or start a new thread? I find it more frustrating finding a very interesting conversation thread that just sort of ends years previously. I think we need to attack this thing at its source, have some kind of time limit on threads between posts based on how popular they are during the course of their life (more popular threads having a longer allowance time between posts etc.). And anyone who tries to start a new thread based off a year old thread and gets an "OMG use teh serch bar geez" has every right to virtually stab that person in the tuckus (ie. ignore them).
