Half-life 2 episode 2's ending was like a punch in the genitals.
It was shocking.
Episode 1's ending was okay, HL2's ending was a major wtf.

Portal had an awesome storyline.

But admit it. The end of Mario was as revealing as the meaning of life. I was so shocked.

Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect are probably my favorite endings of this console generation.

Weak ones include all of the Halo games, Gears of War (1 at least, never played 2), Dead Space, and BioShock, though BioShock wasn't as disappointing as the other two. I can't say the DMC games disappoint me because they don't have stories to begin with.

And say what you want, Guitar Hero II had a great ending. You finish whatever ridiculous 8th-tier song you did last, and you're expecting some metal song for the last encore, but it's something far greater...

Oh, and Tale of Symphonia. That was so lame how they...
...cut off right before saying the name of the tree. I mean, COME ON. Even if we are supposed to get it how about some acknowledgment that we're right?
The tree's name is Yggdrasill, named after that Mithos guy.
In Tales of Phantasia, which takes place 4000 years in the future, there is a big mana giving tree called Yggdrasill. It's the same tree.

Lego Island (GBC) had a disappointing ending, but then again the game wasn't that good to begin with.

The ending for Metal Gear Solid 2 bugged me, mostly because the leadup to it takes what seems like hours and the fight with Solidus is kind of broken. All you need to do is hang off the ledge, jump up, and hit him and it's a guaranteed win. The final boss from MGS3 however was fantastic.

Silent Nights or something. It was a PS2 "horror" game where you played as an astronaught who was trapped on a space station filled with ghosts. It was a puzzler, with no weapons of any kind. REALLY excellent atmosphere (Aaron, WHY are you screaming like a woman?" "CANTTALKRUNNINGFORLIFE") Maybe it was Echo Nights. Not sure.

Anyways......the endings sucked. 8/

Oh, and Devil May Cry 4.
Echo Night: Beyond
Yeah the game was stunningly fear instilling.

Knights of the Old Republic 2, all that work for some dialogue boxes and not very interesting ones either.

Gears Of War 2's ending was pretty disappointing. After the big cinematic at the end of Gears 1, I was expecting a big firefight to try and end he locust but, no.

I'll go with Fable 2 too for my most recent. I was at least expecting some semblance of a final fight, and I don't count the Shard battle as I don't believe it gace proper payoff to the story to not at least duke it out with the antagonist in some form.

I'd also place Halo 2 here definitly, even if it was continued later on. You know you've hbit an Anti-climax when you are sitting controller in hand waiting for the next level and instead you get a crap one liner and end credits.

Battlefield: Bad Company takes the cake for me.
"OK I've just blown my way through hundreds of heavily armed dudes, tanks and heavy artillery to get here.... HOLY CRAP IT'S A HELI...what I killed it already? Balls. Oh well at least the ending cutscene could be really cool, action packed or might end in a logical way. Oh wait no I think it's opposite day."

Ghost Recon: Desert siege. Last mission finished, no exposition, no cutscene, no nothing. Stat screen, click continue and you're at the main menu. That's it.

UFO: Afterlight, this one was a real downer. A real fucking downer. After the really cool endings of the first two games, the really cool cutscenes, the developed story throughout the game, after getting to know all of your characters, after that really cool intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vi0vEGsyFQ), and the best freaking map in the game (that you don't get to see, since all the enemies come running towards you directly, and makes you miss the rest of the map, you get a 20 second movie of one of the characters from the game standing in a big space suit and taking off his helmet. And yeah, that's almost a spoiler, but it's so bad, you're better off knowing already.

And only that. Nothing more. I'm serious. There's nothing else. Not even a "good job", it's ONLY that, and the credits. No explanations, no "what happened next", no monologues, no text, nothing, nada, zip.

Star Wars Republic Commando.

it seemed like there should have been more to the ending, and shame on Lucas Arts for never making a sequel

I was disappointed by Breakdown's ending for the Original Xbox. It was a huge cliffhanger to what is easily the best story I have ever played in a video game. It was supposed to be a trilogy, but noone bought the first game, so it was never finished.
Agreed, story was awesome and ending was great even with the cliffhanger. I am still hoping they will make a second one someday.

FEAR ending was great. Loved how you got away and then Alma is there again i wasnt expecting it.

One of the worst endings was Crysis, it was just like another Halo or KH end. Was not happy after fighting the final boss just to get that.

Crysis ending was just plain bad. S

Thief: Deadly Shadows. I love the series and the game, but the ending was just too...open. If they're not intending to continue the series, I'd rather have a concrete conclusion than some open-ended event that leaves me wondering what happens next, knowing that I'll never find the answer. Give me some closure, Eidos!

Mario Galaxy after you get all 120 stars. I mean why did I just waste another 40 hours of my life trying to get those coins if you're just going to show me basically the same thing I saw when I got half as many stars? Yahtzee was right. You do have to be psycho to get all 120 stars, especially now that I know the ending is the same.

Yet again, Fallout 3 and Neverwinter Nights 2 win. And a GAME-LONG anticlimax was discovering all the cutscenes in Mirror's Edge was in amateurish web-quality flash animation, which I personally could have drawn just as well. (It always make me laugh when people say that Faith was a "normal-proportioned" heroine for a change, because you only really get to see her during those scenes and for some reason her head is about twice the width of everyone elses.:)

Half Life. What the hell was that whole Xen sequence about?!
Oh, we're not digging this old horse up again are we? Well, it may due to my being one of the few people who enjoyed the Xen sections (even going as far as to saying they were one of my favourite parts of the game, alongside Surface Tension and Questionable Ethics) and also having not actually heard a decent explanation of why they supposedly weren't any good.

As for what the Xen levels were actually about. Well, I assume that as the aliens came from Xen so the best way to wipe them out was to go to their home dimension and kill their leader. I'm guessing that was the deal with that. Or would you have rather had another 4 levels of running around science labs before blasting some totally random boss alien, like in the lame ending to Opposing Force?

I actually kinda liked that one - "full circle" and all that, mirroring the intro of the first game. Except Garret himself is now a Keeper, and it's implied (by him using his mentor's exact words) he will train the girl like he was trained himself. He also seems content with his new role, which was all the closure I needed. But I would not have minded another game in the series!
