Tarantula = Galvantula
Praying Mantis = Scyther
Raptor / Falcon = Staraptor (unless you meant the dinosaur one?)

FAIL :p No stick insect or anteater though, as far as I remember...

One animal they should definitely do is the T-Rex... EDIT: oh wait, my favourite 2nd gen pokemon is a T-Rex :) Silly me...

Hmmm... have they done a Gorilla yet? And Slaking doesn't count, since he is a SLOTH, dammit!
The closest thing to a Gorilla I can see is Darmanitan, but I don't know all the various species of Ape, so it could be based off something else.

As for Anteater, Gen 5 gave us one: Heatmor

Omanyte [http://serebii.net/pokedex-bw/138.shtml] and Omastar [http://serebii.net/pokedex-bw/139.shtml]? Maybe not close enough...
Well they're ammonites, which are quite different from the modern nautilus, but yeah I guess they sort of count. Visually they're pretty similar. But you can't deny that a nautilus Pokemon that looked like, say, this [http://zoofights.squarespace.com/storage/zoofights-5/round2_fight1/agportrait.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1275901622006] would be pretty badass.

They look the same to me and pokemon with resemblances to animals is what the thread's aimed at. There's no *actual* dog pokemon, last I checked they can't breathe fire so Arcanine isn't a dog.
What on earth are you talking about? Octillery and Tentacruel look nothing like a squid. Octillery is obviously an octopus and tentacruel is litterally called the "jellyfish pokemon". I have no clue what point you're trying to make. There is no squid Pokemon, and there aren't any Pokemon that look like a squid either.

Would Catgirls be considered animals or people?
If there is going to be a 6th generation, and we all know its only a matter of time until Nintendo reaches far enough up its own ass to make it, I got my bet on a Catgirl pokemon.
we have playboy bunnies (lopunny) so far so you might not be that far off

Manticores, Hydras (Hydreigon was more a clone of Ghidorah), I would love to see some sort of Scarab. Maybe some form of hornet, god knows asia has some badass hornets. Some sort of millipede. Not to mention all the Dinosaurs they have to choose from. Somebody made a fake Hammerheadshark Pokemon back when gold & silver came out, might I suggest stealing the concept? Perhaps a water/poison sea-snake?

Sponges. They have never made a sponge Pokemon. They've made a coral Pokemon, but not a Sponge Pokemon.
Corsola from generation 2
I think that one is coral. Although you seem to have an encyclopedic knowledge of pokemon, have Tardigrades (water bears), been done?

Net is not a defining character. Also Weedle and Catterpie also got net.
Trying to find a spider? Ever heard of Galvantula? :p

EDIT: Sorry for the double post =/
6 legs, but it does have the look of a spider considering it got jointed mouth parts and the correct arrangement of eyes if it's a jumping spider. I guess I can accept that as a spider even though it lacks one of the defining characters.

What makes me laugh about this thread is that the posts in it are probably exactly what GameFreak employees sound like when it comes to thinking of new ideas.

Employee 1: Okay what animal haven't we used yet?
Employee 2: I don't know! We've already made at least 3 cat pokemon and several dogs!

You know there's too many pokemon when.... A thread like this exists.
Maybe they should try extinct animals next, tasmanian tiger anyone? It almost looks like a pokemon anyway, + flogging a dead horse joke. :3

Pretty much all Australian fauna I think.

And the immortal jellyfish, but that'd be downright unfair...

Personally, I'm half expecting them to just start slapping smiley faces on fruit and veg from now on.

elephant? (and, no, donphan/fanfy do not count in this case)
how do they not count?

Mamoswine
OO forgot about mamoswine, and I say they dont count for the reason that there almost semi-circular in shape instead of the...rectangle I guess? but thats just my personal thing I think.
although I guess neither is mamoswine...hmm guess I'll call that one retracted
