Clearly, we need something considerably more alien and horrifying.

I suggest a lamprey.

Also, swordfish?
Need someone dual-wielding swordfish instead, I'd say.

I see your vampire squid and raise you a vampire melon. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_pumpkins_and_watermelons]

Have they done a badger?
Linoone yes?
Linoone is more of a ferret I thought.

OT: I don't think they've ever done a hippo pokemon...
Hippopotas/Hippodown have hippo covered...
What about something like the barnacles from the Half-Life universe? Or a... erm...

Nope :D

Here is the link to the detailed page about Garbador, the evolution of Trubbish.
Also, Muk and Grimer did it first, but they are based off of nuclear waste more than garbage itself.

This thread makes me realize it's been a long time since I've watched Pokemon or played any games.

By the way the zebra is Zebstrika, Barboach is supposed to be a loach type... Is that a kind of shrimp?

Mantis: Scyther.
Stick Insect: Sudowoodo would be my best guess
Raptor probably won't be done until next gen. They always have ~2 prehistoric animals a gen.
The only thing that makes Scyther look similar to a prey mantis is that they're both green.

I'll allow them to make something resemble closer.
Scythe-hands, wings, body... none of that strikes you as similar? =|
As for Sudowoodo, I said "my best guess"
I know he looks nothing like a stick insect, but I can't imagine them making an actual stick insect. Sudowoodo is probably the closest they'll make.
They don't have scythe hands, they capture prey under claws, but they can fly witch I just learned. The body is nothing a like though, that's the unique pray mantis bit it misses.
Then I direct your attention to this.
If you are too lazy to go to it, it lists Scyther as "The Mantis" Pokemon.
Under physiology, it says:
<quote=Bulbapedia>Scyther resembles a primarily green, human-sized praying mantis with accents of cream coloration. It has large, blade-like forearms and a pair of cream-colored wings. Its head is reptilian rather than insect in shape, with three small points, and its feet possess three claws. So you see, the differences you notice, are just an artist taking artistic initiative and making it look cool.
Yes, I know praying mantis look badass, but if every pokemon looked exactly like the animal it was based off of, Pokemon wouldn't be the same.
And furthermore, http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Leavanny_(Pok%C3%A9mon) from 5th gen. I think they've got the mantis covered.

Well, we definitely have a kangaroo. We covered that in Gen 1 with Kangaskhan.

Yes they have. In Gen 4 with Hippopotas and Hippowdon.

Uhhh...this is Pokemon, remember? I realize it's not directly based off one. But it's an extinct animal that was close enough to what they made.
And remember, they take creative liberties when creating these, ok?
Rampardos at least somewhat bears a resemblance.

Try telling me that thing looks anything like the Mudkip family, which is based off of it.

Oh I love this game! I played it a while ago with a friend of mine while we played MW2.
I can't remember all the animals we thought of, but I know the trick is to think of the animals you know, and check your memory (or <url=http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Main_Page>bulbapedia if your memory sucks) and see if there is a pokemon for it.
Lets see...
Hummingbird
Hornet
Fly
Mosquito
Gorilla (I think)
And I can't recall any Panda pokemon...
I will think more on this.
Hornet was beedril, gorilla could be slaking, mosquito could almost be any flying bug type with absorb, but I think fly and hummingbird haven't been done.
The one I want to see is a Double Wattled Cassowary! Think the bird from Up. (google search it, it's a real thing).
You honestly can't tell me you wouldn't call a cassowary pokemon a Cassoworry, because they're essentially velociraptors. Seriously, they're fucking scary as shit.

Oh yeah also, for the last guy, Spinda is a panda. Kinda obvious when you think about it, but I get how it could be missed. ;P

OT: I'd love to see, as stated above, a cassowary, but I'd love to see an African wild dog, a Cheetah and a Koala or monitor lizard.

As for at least a few of the already stated pokmon in this thread, I give you the in-progress Fakedex of Lydario from Deviantart.com.

ANd here's his DA page. http://lydario.deviantart.com/

Man. Seriously, there's not one pokemon that resembles a man. Unless you count Ditto that cute pink slime critter who can appear to look like anything it wishes. Not even sure if it has a gender or not at all.
there's that one mofo thats essentially a body builder

Thanks for that. Resembles and the anime pose I understand, but they might as well have one very close to since it would be interesting for combat, and as you said, bad ass.

They have a dragonfly that looks exactly the same as a dragonfly, a moth that looks near exact as a moth, a beetle that looks, well you get the picture. I like what they did with Scyther, but like I said earlier, I would allow them to make one close to exact.

A koala a Llama (not sure about that one) and a peacock?

My knowledge of pokemon is a bit rubbish though.

I just want to say my favourite pokemon atm is Mareep. <3
