Weirdly enough the same things my mother is afraid of, heights and spiders. It has made me wonder if phobias can be genetically transmitted. Either that or seeing her fear of them at a young age imprinted on me that those are things to be feared. Have a flick through this topic though it seems that a lot of people are afraid of these things.

I used to be scared of confined spaces after being stuck in a lift at the age of 8, but I'm over it now.

I only have two real irrational fears anymore and they are irrational enough that I never really have to worry about them.

The first is that some part of me will be used without my knowledge or consent for the benefit of something else. Minus the forced organ donation squad appearing at my door I'm pretty much clear on that one. The closest it comes is mosquitos. I have no fear of bugs, blood, needles, knives, or knowledgable and consented bone marrow transplants or whatever, but not being aware of it would freak me out.

The second is starving to death amoung friends and/or family. It just seems like it would be the most ... akward way to die. Should I offer to be eaten for the good of the tribe? Should I skip my food ration today to make it last longer? Is there any order we're supposed to drop off in? It just seems like a very uncomfortably beurocratic way to go. So much to think about just to pop off!

So yeah. The trick is to fear things so ludacris you will never have to be afraid of them.

death.

it terrifies me, the idea that everything you ever were could simply cease is horrible. How much would be lost? you would be forgotten in 50 or 60 years and then the universe will spin on without you.

honest to god i don't think i go a day without a little flicker of this paranoia hitting me like a wet towel to the groin.

Siafu in Indy-Jones 4 were quite exagerated. In real life, they are not found in Peru, much smaller and way less juicy.
And they make cool patterns for their food carriage paths; a thick parade of worker ants protected by a wall made of soldier ants.

I'm actually not afraid of anything, and I mean anything. And I haven't been for a good 2 years now. But to add to the thread I have a common fears checklist:
"
[ ] the dark
[ ] staying single forever
[ ] being a parent
[ ] giving birth
[ ] being myself in front of others
[ ] open spaces
[ ] close spaces
[ ] heights
[ ] dogs
[ ] birds
[ ] fish
[ ] spiders
[ ] flowers or other plants
[ ] being touched
[ ] fire
[ ] deep water
[ ] snakes
[ ] silk
[ ] the ocean
[ ] failure
[ ] success
[ ] thunder/lightning
[ ] frogs/toads
[ ] my boyfriends/girlfriends dad
[ ] boyfriends/girlfriends mom
[ ] rats
[ ] jumping from high places
[ ] snow
[ ] rain
[ ] wind
[ ] crossing hanging bridges
[ ] death
[ ] heaven
[ ] being robbed
[ ] falling
[ ] clowns
[ ] dolls
[ ] large crowds of people
[ ] men
[ ] women
[ ] having great responsibilities
[ ] doctors, including dentists
[ ] tornadoes
[ ] hurricanes
[ ] incurable diseases
[ ] sharks
[ ] Friday the 13th
[ ] ghosts
[ ] poverty
[ ] Halloween
[ ] school
[ ] trains
[ ] odd numbers
[ ] even numbers
[ ] being alone
[ ] becoming blind
[ ] becoming deaf
[ ] growing up

[ ] not accomplishing my dreams/goals
[ ] needles
[ ] blood
[ ] dinosaurs
[ ] the welcome mat
[ ] high speed
[ ] throwing up
[ ] falling in love
[ ] super secrets
[ ] fear
If you get all of them, stop messing around.
If you get more than 30, I strongly recommend some counseling
If you get 21-30, you're paranoid.
If you get 11-20, you are normal.
If you get 10 or less, you're close to fearless.
If you get none, You're just like me."
I just found it on the massive interwebz and thought it applied. I'll edit it as much as anyone wants. To fill it out just put an X where the space between the brackets is in front of your fear. I suggest since the full list is here you only post ones you X'd.

Spiders. Fucking freaky.
And clowns. The makeup means you can't see their emotions clearly, and psychologically, i can't see how anyone would not have an aversion to them

and also that any game/t.v show-to-film adaptations of things i love will ruin the reputation of a great franchise

IMAGE REMOVED FROM POST CAUSE I HATE ANTS
Yes, they were exaggerated.
That doesn't mean they can't pinch you, swarm over you so you can't stand up, and then suffocate you because they've crawled into your lungs. The only way to get rid of them is to burn them off, which could be considered more frightening because now your covered in burning ants.

For common fears, heights make me uncomfortable, but I'm fine if I'm sitting down.

For uncommon fears, I hate clowns in all forms, and I cannot be in a dark room with a mirror in it. If I need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I have to open the door and feel along the wall for the light switch, since I refuse to step into a dark room with a mirror.

The unknown and forgetting my favourite memories.

As for more common fears...bees and injections.
Can't stand that stuff.

Mr Happy gets another vote from me. Shame too, it's not like I don't like any of their games or anything.

Used to be an arachnophobe, not really now. Big-ass hairy spiders count as a legit fear, since chances are good that if they don't kill you they'll at least give you some exotic disease.

Clowns and specifically IT for a good few years, but I got over those.

I think my most recent phobia was Alma, because she'd always pop up at inconvenient moments or when you were helpless (like bobmaster this gave me problems going to the bathroom in the middle of the night). Little ***** haunted me all the way through Myst (I kid you not, it was the next game I played after FEAR and with the creepy atmosphere and all I kept expecting her to show up every time I opened a door).

I used to be afraid of spiders, but not anymore.

I think when you think about fears, you kinda kill them. With me it was like "I'm afriad of spiders, but why? Cause they might be poisonous. Then am I afraid of death? No, but I don't want it. Why not? Cause I don't know what comes after it."

After that I did a little studying on spiders, and the fear went away.

I think my only fear now is the unknown. That and not having at least some sort of control in a situation. Thus, I actually think I'm afraid of love, cause that emotion has way too much power over people. They stop thinking logically and act stupid over it, and that scares me.

Oh yeah, and betrayal. That scares me too.

And dogs with bees in their mouths so when they bark they chew bees at you.

Zombies here. For other people sharing the same completely irrational fear, I recommend "The Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks. Whitch can be bought at most online bookstores.

HUGE ****ING SWARMS OF ANTS.

I was quivering in my seat during that scene in Indiana Jones.

You know, that scene, with the Suxafu.
I can't watch documentaries on them either.
Makes my skin crawl. Like it's covered in ants.
Blech...
I agree. Ants or anything smaller than me that can overpower me by numbers. As a child I had a fear of caterpillars.
