Xbox One: Microsoft aims for 1 billion lifetime sales, 100 million Xbox 360 units

Microsoft?s senior vice president of Interactive Entertainment Business Yusuf Mehdi has stated that given the broad multimedia focus of Xbox One, there?s no reason why it can?t shift between 400 million and 1 billion consoles in its lifetime.
Oh wait..
Yeah, because everyone is watching TV today and isn't hardwired to their cell phones and tablets.

Oh gosh, that casual audience is a kind that is shrinking fast. Microsoft should ask Apple how their Apple TV device sells. Even at a fraction of the price of the XBOX One. They would tell them it is nice but nothing near the tablet market as a multimedia device.

The comparisons to a Philips CD-i, Jaguar, and Dreamcast are all wrong. This thing is a 3DO. It is trying to be too many things. The niche of people who want a TV box like this will want an Apple TV device or something. Not a $400 or so video game system.

Okay, maybe somewhere between a Philips CD-i, Jaguar, and 3DO. But I'm getting these weird 3DO vibes from the system.

Nah, I'm crazy. I think Phillips marketed their system more as a multimedia device than 3DO. That being said, it's going to fail like one of these things.

The Xbox One is Microsoft's first big toward getting away from making video game consoles and I say good riddance to bad rubbish. I think Moviebob called this one back in 2008.

It was the best advertisement for the PS4 I've ever seen?

Hmm...uh...I honestly cannot think of anything.
Oh oh! They have Call of Dut-HAHAHAHAAHA!!!

Sorry. I can't finish that sentence.
They did nothing correct in terms of wanting to get me to buy one.

I am at best, met with apathy and ambivalence, and at worst, outright revulsion.
Ditto here

The controller seems pretty good. It's pretty much the same thing as before, but hey, at least it didn't get worse.

Expecting a subscription fee for the battery recharge though, with the way things are going.

Bit surprised this hasn't come up yet, but 8 new IPs in the first year exclusives. New IPs are often the system selling games for me, so it's nice to see one of the companies actually care about giving their system some new, defining, only-get-it-here content.

Granted, I won't be buying one anyway for all the various previously stated reasons, and chances are I'll hate the new IPs once they're announced- but good on them for trying!

Well, that seems to make a mixed message argument. It seems to be pretty well for the casual audience. Which is exactly what Microsoft is going for. The problem is that the tablet market stole them away a long time ago. Not sure I would use this against the XBOX One. Aside from the fact it's a Collar Duty system.

What I do agree with is that making games for kids isn't something to be ashamed of. Nor is making toys. In fact I think this video is an excelling argument for jRPGs. I hear a lot of gamers today complaining about how jRPGs are about kids and for kids. When there's nothing wrong with that and Pokemon still does quite well.

If anything, jRPGs today aren't doing enough to attempt to cater to younger fans.

Again, I keep hearing criticism about jRPGs in that they're "all about kids". And that they "need to be about adults". I think that's the last thing jRPGs need to do in order to become successful in the long run. And I think that video illustrates my point. It isn't as if it is impossible for a new generation of kids to fall in love with jRPGs. In fact many are, with the Nintendo DS.

Maybe this sort of thing is why the Wii U can eventually recover and do really well this generation. It at least have backwards compatibility going for it. I think this underdog is eventually going to do really well when some games that people really want come out. Nintendo isn't for kids. It has always been for all ages. And that is a good thing.

So my thoughts... The 500g hard drive and, um... possibly the "more powerful" processor.
I'm not trying to be a downer here, but 500 GB for mandatory installs on a next-gen device where the sizes may be astronomical is not what I would call good. Especially since it appears to be a fixed HDD unit, meaning no upgrades. Also, you're supposed to use it as a multimedia device, so more storage. Except, "cloud," I guess.

Speaking of, the cloud service would be my number one. Now, I don't want things that are solely cloud reliant, but having cloud functionality is awesome.

Also, improving Kinect might make it worth a shit. I'm not sure if that's a positive or not, but I'm floating it.

I grew up in the VHS days so I think that the console looks really good. And if the dpad really is improved then the Xbone will have the greatest controller of all time IMO.

Unfortunately, that's literally it for me.

Things it did well? Highlights everything NOT to do with a console: DRM, make gaming more difficult and complicated, screw it's own library.

My HTS, which is a relatively new unit that does 7.1 and a bunch of other things I don't use, actually looks like the old blocky stereo amp my dad had back in the 80s. I think mine's smaller, and his was silver instead of black, but it's funny how little the appearance matters to me.

The space-age looking ones seem to burn out. Maybe that's why the 360 RRODed so often. >.>

I'm interested in the voice activation stuff. Do I have to get a connect with one? Is that where the Mike is?
The new Kinect is an integral part of the One. It's mandatory, and that's where the mic is.

Most Americans prefer style over substance so I can see why MS made it look like this. Would fit right in their homes.

And its so called "bulkiness" will definitely help out with the airflow. Even my slim 360 gets super hot when I play for more than 3 hours.

Hmmm... I guess I'm actually liking the console's design overall. It's a pretty slick design, IMO. Then again, I gre up in the 80s, so maybe the asymmetrical design of it, coupled with the all-angles design aspect (with the exception of the "X" jewel/icon, there doesn't seem to be a single curve on the machine) just reminds of how I once envisioned how the future would look... I mean, before everyone decided the future should look sterile white.

I'm also really digging how the controller is looking, especially the D-pad and the analog sticks. I haven't actually held the thing of course, but it looks like it would be a lot more responsive that the current 360 controller. Not saying the current controller is bad per se, but it is a ***** to play a decent fighting game with.

That all said, while I looks nice and probably will feel nice... I'm still woefully undersold on what it will actually provide for me, outside of looking cool.

It made me fondly remember my childhood VCR that had a remote control the size of an iPad but with considerably less functionality.

Who doesn't love a bit of nostalgia?

I know we are suppose to put good things, but honestly, I can't think of any that aren't spiteful or sarcastic. The best thing would be this gives me faint hope that it will lead to a quicker crash for gaming's hyper realistic, graphics over everything, crap churned out at ridiculous prices mindset. after all, nothing short of total economic failure for the a major system will shake the industry enough to start trying changes. This system? This system looks like the what you'd get if every horrible, greedy decision the industry makes as a whole all formed together into a creation of gaming blight.
Brown shooters!
Drm!
"media system"!
by these powers, we create captain planet XboxOne

Ok, for one good thing? I guess it looks like it could show pretty games? I mean, I thought game graphics are the very last thing to worry about in a game to begin with, and should be made to fit the game itself, even if that means using less high end graphics, but I can respect pretty for pretty sake sometimes.

That is bad! I worry about having a camera like that in my home. Imagine they turn it on remotely and catch this Fatb0y walking around in his tidy whiteys? On the one hand, no one should be subjected to that sight. On the other hand, would serve them right.
That's how I will figure out if they're watching me. I'll walk around naked and see if the thing cries.

This is, of course, one of the big concerns. I'm not sure Microsoft's going to spy on us, but the fact that it's effectively always on with a camera and a mic aimed at you is certainly a little unsetlling.
