What do you think of US soldiers?

I respect what they're doing, but they could be better trained. I mean no offence but whenever I hear of a friendly fire incident on British troops I automatically think of the US troops doing it.

Although I support the soldier's willingness to fight to protect country and family, I cannot support some of the reasons that their country would have them fight.

Some are fine people serving their ideals (I don't really agree with nationalism and patriotism, but many hold those as most important ideals). Some just want to kill people. The uniform does not make the man, the man makes the man.

a) flame war... inevitable bloody flame war...

b) being british and from a military family i am under the impression that despite the fact the US field merely adequate if slighlty cocky and macho infantrymen, they are the best army in the world.

the british army has the best infantrymen in the world, a mediocre tank corp, and shit everything else, and all the other armies are just shit to begin with, whether to poor (most african) too small (new zealand) too far away to care (australia) or crippled by the fact they don't want to or can't go anywhere (germany and japan). or their just cheese eating surrender monkeys too busy wanking themselves to death with cheese (france). ;-)

seriously though, the yanks have all the good military hardware, and they have enough of it to use it when its appropiate. they will win almost every stand up war they will ever fight. the only problem and the only reason they are loosing in afghanistan (and possibly Iraq, we don't get news from their) is that they are fighting people who don't care if they die or not.

Although i respect the fact that some do and some may risk their lives but most people I know in 6th form who want to be in the armed forces are mostly jackasses of intelligent levels varying between idiotic and average, but this is just a handful of people so it may just be poor luck, most of them are using it as i don't have to learn card.

They're no different from you or I, except of course, for the weapons training, hand-to-hand combat training, survival training, anything that goes with their position training. Some are really good people, who join to provide for their families, who believe that they're going to make the world a better place, and some are assholes, who just want to power trip.

I know several people in the military, and some in my family who have been in the past. My Great Grandfather, and my Grandfather were in WWII (Newfoundlanders, under the British), and my Uncle was in the Marines during Vietnam and afterward. They were/are all awesome people.

It's that kinda attitude that made us quit in vietnam. Seriously, if we would have stayed to the finish, vietnam could be looking like south korea right now, instead of one of the poorest, least desirable places to live in the world.

Myself, I was never a soldier, I was a sailor. All I did was operate a nuclear reactor. Never forced to go over to some sandy country. No bullets came close to my submarine. Zero casualties while I was onboard. Hell, I can claim that I was defending americas borders the whole time I was in the Navy. I have no problem with sending soldiers over to pacify a volatile area. As the policemen of the world, it's our duty to ensure that atrocities don't occur while we are on duty. Clinton dropped the ball when he failed to respond in Rwanda. Gotta make sure things like that don't happen ever again.
hehe, ^^;; it's this kinda "Big Brother" attitude which makes the rest of the world despise the USA. The constant need to interfere with everyone else's problems and matters. I say, deal with your own country's issues first before helping others.
what? that big brother attitude was the only thing stopping ww3. pre Bush the americans were loved for their willingness to step into trouble spots. (even if they didn't fare well in them, beriut, somalia etc).

sodding hell compare them to the UN for humanitiarian aid and the US army are saints. the big brother attitude worked well for everyone until the yanks voted in a retarded pr*ck to manage their country.

I have respect for people who join the military. I don't have respect for the governments that support/start wars.

Same as I do a Postman, a Fireman, a Policeman, or any other profession.

Doing a job that other people aren't willing to, or able to, that serves the country they are in and helps to keep it going. I did grow up in military bases, however, so it's super-normal to me.

I don't think you can judge them as a whole. I'm sure some of them are good, and others are probably douchebags. They're not clones of the same person. I mostly just hate the Iraq War, and the Bush Junior regime for demanding it.

Riiight, we totally loved you in Vietnam. You also need to stop thinking that your big guns/tanks/nukes are enough to win a war.

O.T. I don't really care as long as they don't start dropping bombs on me.

Soldier are tools of the government and could be used to oppress the people. Unless an army is weak enough to be struck down by the people of it's country... SOLDIERS ARE TOTAL FAGS.

I'd be a soldier myself if it was necessary, but it's not, there are no barbarians at the gates. There may be terrorists; but it's different.

what are they gonna do, toss BUTTERED SCONES at us? XD
They're more suited for tossing grenades and firing bullets at you.

Stale scones do make good rock-analogues, though.
