i've biked for many years, doing a lot of trail riding too, thing is i never wear a helmet, it impares my vision and i have to abnormally crane my neck to see properlyfix-the-spade said:Actually I meant Bicycles, push bikes, pedal bikes.

For the record my current tally is 6 helmets. 2 replaced after crashes because of foam compression. 3 cracked after high speed crashes and one completely shattered from 30mph over the bars. That one knocked me out despite the helmet, yet I see people on the same trail without. You'd think the BIG ROCKS would persuade them.
One helmet ended because I got sideswiped by a car and headbutted the wind screen. Another when I rode over a patch of oil/brake fluid and the front wheel washed out. Face met pavement with force.
Both on the streets, both low speed, didn't see either coming and had no way to avoid.
i've never once had a run in with a car, i tend to pay attention to what i'm doing tho
