Astronomy pics I stumbleupon. I specifically keep Astronomy on my stumble list in order to find new wallpapers. My desktop changes randomly as I find new pics. Currently consists of a binary star system with Saturn-like rings.
I feel oddly boring now, mine's a rotating series of wallpapers from Marvel's recent cosmic series, so Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax the destroyer etc. The only prominent female is Phyla-vel who is A. A lesbian B. Fully covered and C. Not a really well developed character in my oppinion.
My desktop has an alienware background and my lap top is a picture of a tundra. Though my friend has quite a collection of scantily clad anime girls. I dunno, neither of us get much comments one way or the other among our circle of friends. He doesn't even get looks at work. Then again, he's a programmer. So, maybe they all have such backgrounds. XD
I'm happy to be judged as a gamer and nerd, as I think most people here are, including you, so the key is to make sure your picture reflects the game significantly more than the girl. I don't care if its a good (and even tasteful) shot of a female character in the game - if the picture makes me think about the character rather than the gameplay, I'll assume you're unhealthily obsessed with her!
See, this is where being over 30 has its advantages. I can put whatever I want on my desktop and not give the slightest bit of care to what others think. I do change mine often and randomly, but I have and will put anything from naked women in vulgar poses through to photos of gorgeous landscapes. If someone takes an objection to one, I simply shrug and say "So what? It's my computer, my desktop and my house. What you want on your desktop is your business, what I have on mine is mine. If it really bothers you that much, then stop using my computer."
Being over 30 is awesome. I dreaded it up until it happened, but it's like being an epic level character in a tavern full of a lowbies (an ad&d character under level 8, for those who've never slung dice).
When it comes to the wallpaper on my MacBook Pro, I like to think of things in a simplistic and stylish kind of way. I chose two wallpapers for my dual screens that personify my interests, as well as provide anybody who looks at it a nice window into my world.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you, my wallpapers.
Like I said, I tend to keep it simple and stylish, while at the same time, interesting and fun to look at. Renamon just happens to be my favorite Digimon, so finding an image of her with a coffee and looking out the window in solitude just warms my psyche.
For the burning Apple logo, I just find the aesthetics to be very clean and suititing of my interests.
[small]Although in reality, it's probably an ironic symbol of what most PC users want to do to Apple products when it comes to Macs on a gaming website. I can game, don't hurt me...[/small]
Well I don't really have ladies in states of undress, because my parents or siblings would see it often enough. Maybe when I head back to college.
Anywho, this was my wall paper for ages:
I prefer mind**** desktops, like optical illusions, or hypnotic patterns
i also have taken extensive measures to make my desktop clean (retracting start bar, no desktop icons, no recycle bin, nothing)
when people start my computer and all they see is an optical illusion, it tends to mess with them, until i show them that the startbar is on the left side hidden
but thats just me
My current background is the Starfleet Intelligence logo with a black background (see avatar). It's simple but awesome (if you're a trekkie).
Alternately, I use astronomy pictures (usually from Astronomy Picture of the Day) and occasionally backgrounds related to games or other media I'm into at the time. Starfleet Intelligence is just the default for me.
I tend to stick with one of the default ones that looks "cool".
I'd never put a pretty girl on my desktop, anime or otherwise...partly because I don't see the point of random softcore porn, and partly because my family enjoy barging into my room at every possible opportunity.
anyway OT, I prefer to use pics to get a more hilarious effect.
even though at the moment I just have a basic It crowd wallpaper but I did use this one a while back

I don't use pictures of sexy ladies due to comments/mockery from my family. I think having a woman on your wallpaper is seen as perverse and creepy, so that's why it's OK to have big manly men on there if your a man, but it's not OK to have a woman on their.
This. I've seen people with obscene wallpaper in class or on their work computers, and I respect them for not giving a damn about what people think when they see it.
