What is an acceptable desktop for a man? (Or due to responses, what does a REAL man have?)

This is true, but my wife would see my gaming very differently if she thought I was particularly interested in the female characters.

I quite like my desktop. Nighthawks, nothing really much to say about it other than it gives me a nice calm feeling.

Perhaps I should amend that to "Being over 30 and single is awesome" then? :D

Off Topic: Does anyone know a decent place to nab a desktop cycling program? I'm on vista, btw :x.

On Topic: Eeh.. I think as long as it isn't too obscene, it's fine. But if you know some girly girls are coming over who you know don't like random pictures of (hawt) anime chicks, maybe change it to a car... Or something...

I use this one

My friend drew it as a design for my Nationstates flag. I really liked it though because I like the colors blue and yellow. The original design was my idea and yes I now know that I subconsciously stole the punisher skull

I used to have a background of this massive cat sitting next to a lighthouse, both of them towering over a small ocean-side town.

People would stop and stare.

And point and laugh.

Or giggle.
I've got that picture, except it's an AT-AT, not a cat.
I used to have this as my background:
and I've had this for a while but I might change it soon.

I've got my girlfriend and a dog on my desktop. And having a girlfrien who tends to block my computer quite often, porn wasnt really an option.

This is mine at the mo', and I bloody love it too. Nothing wrong with it, maybe even a bit geeky, but most wouldn't say anything because they'd think ''retro'' first, so I wouldn't get many negative comments about it. And my Dad said it was nice too, which I was happy about.

Real men live with the fact that they have no desktop!

My desktop is constantly changing. I usually have my favorite video game character up. (And most of them are male). It usually changes with my mood too. :)

As for you OP, I'd say just put up what you like to look at. Who honestly cares if someone else doesn't like it? It's your computer, so you shouldn't worry so much what others think. And if they question you, just say that you like the image.

Here are some examples of my ever changing desktop. :3

Dude you original desktops were fine, it's just that a majority of the people including myself found the theme slightly creepy. Anyway this is my current desktop:

My current one is this:

My sister actually made it, and I really liked it, so I use it.

This is what I have on my desktop at work, spread across two monitors:

At first I just thought it looked neat, but now it's grown on me.

If a real man can't have the void has his background, than I don't want to be a real man.
Curse you both for having such epic monitors. I'm probably going to spend the next hour trying to cut those down to 16:9 without butchering them, only to find it a futile endeavor.

As for my own preferences, I like my desktop to reflect a stylized version of whatever game I've been playing lately. These are two of my favorites:

Oh, and I almost forgot: The Starcraft 2 loading screens make superb wallpaper for anyone who enjoys the space aesthetic. I've got a folder full of them in gloriously high resolution, so let me know if anyone wants them uploaded here.

I've had space marine background before that's about as nerdy as I get or Wrex ,but he is just too bad ass. Having your girlfriend or famous actress is acceptable.

Go for it! It seems Space is allowed for manly men so why don't you post us a few of the best?

Well, I'd never claim to be the manliest of men, but I dno't think mine would raise too many eyebrows.
Don't think it'd freak anyone out but, unless they were massive fans of Scott Pilgrim, I doubt it'd instantly bag me any new friends either.

Proper blokey blokes should probably have a picture of a sports car or... I don't know, a brick or something.
