And I think that most emos live by the statement "Haters Gonna Hate".Seeing as most people I know dislike them for no good reason.
You mean like this? [http://www.hatersgoingtohate.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/haters-gonna-hate-eagle.jpg]

OT, while I can't stand whiny emo kids who won't stop complaining for no reason nor the stupid fashion sense of all black and tight fitting clothing, I still can't stop thinking emo girls are kinda hot...

Yeah, I find that sexy for some reason.
...I'll be in my bunk.
Seriously, though, goth, scene, and emo women are AMAZINGLY delicious.
Yeah, I'd kill to be one.
You'd kill to be an emo/goth/scene girl? I don't mean to be rude nor ignorant, but aren't you a dude?

"What is X," threads make me wonder if the original poster is familiar with Wikipedia at all [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo#Fashion_and_stereotype]. You'll get a better answer there than you will asking random people on the street (which is essentially the quality of answer you'll get out of trolling a forum).

Teach a man to fish, and all that. Really, there's a better answer in that Wikipedia article than many self-proclaimed emos know/will admit.

I think you mean this.

OT: I gave up trying to define emo a long time ago. Everyone has their own definitions. But it is annoying how some people call anyone who is sad or dress in a certain way or listen to the music emo when they are definitely not.

Emo means to me "Emotionally unstable", they normally participate in self arm (its not just on the wrists) and sometimes they try to be angsty.
Gothic Emo are Emos who wear Black Clothes, white and black make-up who listen to heavy metal, act more angsty.

I used be emo.
And not one of those fake emo's.
Where did the whole emo's are gay come from?
Emo's get all the chicks!
But anyway being emo involves dressing in black, cutting yourself and listning to that genre of music.

Emo is a label and a bullshit one at that, and most people dont deserve it. I stand by the video.

I'm a fan of the 'Emo' dress style, but not the whole lifestlye. As far as I know, that's what most people think.

"Emo" is the shorthand designation for someone who looks bad in plain clothes with moderate makeup, and would be completely forgettable and boring if they didn't cause drama while claiming that they can't help it because they have some variation of depression.

The guys who wear black and have hair in their face.
Yeah, they sometimes make me angry enough to burn down orphanages.
The girls, not so much - they're usually rather nice and hot. Although I'm pretty sure they would be hotter without all that makeup and the black hair, but still.

Emo was a trend of suburban kids who felt like their life was becoming so plain and ordinary that they were beginning to lose their identity. They started to wear all black, heavy eye-shadow and jet-black hair because they saw themselves as someone who was merely a shadow of a person. They were going for a dead look.

Now this isn't to say that people who wear black are emos. Before there was Emo we had Punk Rockers. they don't really wear ALL black, but a majority of their clothing is black. They saw themselves as misunderstood. They had mostly black shirts, blue jeans and steel toe boots.

Nowadays we have "Scene" kids who only dress "emo" because it started being marketed as a "cool" look.

those poor REAL emo kids. They had 1 sliver of individuality left in their lives and then it was taken away because they became marketable. luckily most of them grew up and realized that their lives have plenty of individuality and decided to NOT kill themselves because of "scene."

Emo is a music style not a lifestyle. It although due to huge ignorance has evolved a derivative from the goth lifestyle. Due to this the emo is a slightly less dark style. The wrist slicing is only done by the depressed emos and there numbers have stayed the same since the start of this lifestyle.

It's short for 'emotional' (I think) which has all the negative whiny-ass connotations that go with it. It's like calling a fat person 'a bit heavy' or a simple person 'special.' It's a euphemism for a social stereotype that cut themselves, try desperately to believe they're depressed when actually they're just massive bellends and who wear tight black clothing.

Note to readers: In no way do I support the views stated above, I think people can do what they like. That's just the way I see the stereotype as being perceived.

Just to clear up a bit of confusion here people that look like emo's but are actually just attention seeking/listening to a variety of different music genres or don't think about suicide are what's known as "Scene" and and not to be confused with actual emo's. This posers prance around and are not emo.

the way someone acts, if someone is always depressed, focused on the negative, and cant seem to enjoy life. Thats my definition of emo, i dont give a damn how someone dresses, its the way they act that counts

That pic is win :D

Also I listen to more emo music than every emo kid where I live so music taste is not really part of it. I think its mostly style.
