Well I first started playing games on my parents PC.
Then:

Gameboy Pocket - My mom bought my brother and I one each a few days before we had a really long car drive ahead of us - 6 hours. I saved up all my pocket money to buy Pokemon Blue.

PS1 (family) - We got one for Christmas, after my brother and I became obsessed with playing a Spyro the Dragon demo at an electronics store

PC - Both myself and my brother received our parents old PCs (and as time went on their old components) when they upgraded (we each had our own). They could never play anything brand new at the highest graphic settings, but they still played everything that we wanted to play. It's main purpose was for school work though.

PS2 (family) - A friend had a PS2, and got me hooked. Parents got one for my brother and I for Christmas.

Xbox (family) - Won it in a competition.

Gameboy Advance SP - Had a lot of money saved up, so decided to get one.

Xbox360 (family) - I think it was mostly the titles but there was also the fact that the PS3, was just so much more expensive for a long time. I don't think anyone was really keen on a bluray player either.

Nintendo DS - Wanted to get back into Pokemon mainly, but I also just like Nintendo handhelds.

Uni Laptop - I regretted the choice to get laptop for Uni pretty quickly when I realised it was the pain to take to classes and pretty much just used it as a desktop anyway.

Xbox 360 - Couldn't take the family console away to Uni. Still cheaper than PS3 but I also wanted to play Mass Effect.

Nintendo DS Lite - My previous DS was stolen by a "friend" staying at my house. Took all the good games for it too. I got a new one when I needed to take an hour bus each day.

Gaming PC - Yay!!!

Nintendo 3DS - This one was a Christmas present from my partner.

iPad - Way better for Uni.

WiiU - Recent surprise present from my partner. I had been talking about getting one.

Future - I have no plans to get anything else at this stage.

Sega Genesis (model 2)
Playstation
Game Boy Color
N64
Game Boy Advance
Playstation 2
Gamecube
Xbox
Xbox 360
Playstation 3

I am getting a Playstation 4 for Christmas, because I have a mighty need.

On the topic of PC gaming, I've been on and off with that for years, leaning heavily towards off these days, because I've learned that for school, my Mac is way more durable and useful.

Started off with a SNES when I was 1-4, but we got a playstation 1 whenever those came out. I played the shit out of DOOM on that thing.

Drifted onto the PS2 a few months after that released, and I'm pretty sure I still have the original fat design around here somewhere.

I jumped consoles when the 360 came out because of Dead Rising, then nearly broke it when it tipped over. I've upgraded to the Gears of War 3 special 360 since that game came out in September of '11.

For the future? I remain optimistic about the Xbox One, but I'm just going to watch from the sidelines for a bit.

2 Ataris couldn't remember their number most my older siblings
(Also had various commodore Amigas not sure if they count as consoles or not)
Sega Master System
Sega Game Gear
Game Boy Color
N64
PS2
Gamecube
PSP
PS3
Xbox 360
Wii

Don't my reasons for each console choice but ranges from friends bought that I'll buy one for multiplayer, brand loyalty and it looked cool so I wanted one.

Currently built my first PC from scratch 2 weeks ago. Plan to stick with that for a while into the next console generation.

Me: NES -> C64 -> SNES -> PC -> PS3 -> PSP
Siblings: Sega Mastersystem -> Gameboy -> PlayStation (1)

In that order. My C64 was stolen by a class mate, and as my sis had bought a PS1 I didn't see much use in getting the various Nintendo consoles after the SNES. I was into PC gaming by then (and still am). Once we lived in different houses I no longer had access to any console.

As a NES fan the SNES was the next logical step, the first console I bought with my own money.

And because I had a Nintendo, my sister of course wanted a Sega. The Gameboy was for my other sis.
We all used each other's consoles/handhelds of course.

I bought my PS3 only in September 2010 for Heavy Rain and since then really love the console again. Picked up a PSP for on the go, but it's mostly unused as my iPod Touch is easier to play short games on.

I might pick up a PS4 and/or Vita depending on how what games come out for them, my last big purchase was a new gaming PC.

1. Start: Sega Mega Drive 2 (with a very fake sticker of 3 on top of 2, lol)
Still have it on the shelf.

2. Then a Pentium 1 PC 100mhz, 1.2gb hdd, al lthe fancy stuff of the used PC.....
currently it is disassembled in one of the storage places my family has and quite useless.

3. Then in 2003 i bought a PC With Athlon XP, 1400 mhz, an actual graphic card and it was glorious i tell you.
I upgraded it here and there keeping it alive, and currently it is still running and my dad plays games on it.

4. a 2008 laptop with dual corep rocessor 4 gb ram and a dedicated GPU. back then it was a "high end" laptop.
This is the machine i am currently running on. It starts to fail to meet even the minimum requirements, its HDD is failing, keyboard sometimes misses letters, and basically reach its end of life after 5 years of daily service.

5. Plants: I have a very optimistic plan to save up enough money by the end of the year to buy a new complete set. That includes a new Tower, monitor, speakers[footnote]currently as i moved the old ones are left with dad, so i got laptop speakers and heaphones[/footnote], keyboard and i guess i can use current mouse. The plan is to jump into double sale of new years sale + sale trying to compete with release of new consoles. however it will all fail if i fail to save up enough money which is a possibility.

P.S. yes, once i went PC i never went back, PC FTW

Capcha: Dragon with matches

As you can probably tell, I've been primarily a Nintendo man my whole gaming life. Why, because Nintendo has always and continues to offer highly polished and always enjoyable experiences. I'm waiting for more games on the PS4 to push me over the edge into getting one.

Odyssey (first played, not mine)
NES (Dad bought it for me and he regretted it ever since)
SNES (Christmas gift, with FFII[4] and several other great classics)
Genesis (Got it at some point because I could, mostly played Sonic on it)
TurboGrafx (Such an underrated system!)
TurboDuo (Upgraded, and STILL love the games)
PSX (Walked 8 miles one way in the 110+ Phoenix summer heat so I could get it, and then all the way back)
PSX again (so I could link two systems and play Wipeout with friends... haha, Soldiers have too much disposable income)
PS2 (I think I got it when I left active duty)
XBOX (My GF/future wife and I got it together instead of a dog)
Nintendo DS (My daughter and wife ran off with it)
PS3 (I bought it because I could)
PSP (I still rarely touch it and wonder why I want a Vita)

PS4 will be next, no plans to ever get another Xbox-anything.

From what I can remember:

Amstrad PC > Sega Megadrive > Nintendo 64 > Gameboy > PS1 > Gameboy Advance > PS2 > PC > Gamecube > Nintendo DS > PSP > Xbox 360 > Wii > PS3

Early on, since I was just a kid (Also, not born when the Amstrad and Sega where first released) it was just what my Brother wanted/what my parents had lying around the attic.

Eventually I got hooked on playing the Megadrive and N64 as well as the Gameboy and got a PS1 to start my own collection of games, this naturally lead into me wanting a PS2 and exploring a vast number of games.

When PC's became cheap enough to be able to own multiple in my house, I could finally start looking into PC games (I lived with multiple siblings, only one computer meant that you could only be on in 1 hour shifts to make it fair for everyone)

I played around with my brother's Gamecube a fair bit to play new installments of Mario, Zelda and Metroid. I also got myself a DS and later a PSP to play more while going out to places (Also at school)

After playing on my cousins Xbox 360, I decided it looked fun and I got into playing Gears of War and Rainbow 6 Vegas, at the same time my brother picked up the Wii which I again played the new Mario, Zelda and Metroid games.

Then my house got a PS3 as the main console to be used by the entire family, which I quickly built up a decent game library for, but now it's used solely to play Blu-Rays, DvDs and stream Lovefilm and Netflix to the main TV.

Next generation I will just upgrade my PC. I have no interest at the moment for any of the extremely expensive consoles on which I can play maybe 1-2 exlusives that I won't be able to pick up for the PC (Controls are no issue as I prefer KB+M and also have a controller for my PC) and will like.

Edit:

I just remembered, I picked up a Dreamcast sometime after getting my PS2, I managed to buy it of a friend with about 20 games for £2 and 3 lollipops. Man... Middle school kids were addicted to sugar >.>

I will save myself time and effort and simply say ALL

From the Magnavox Odyssey and Atari consoles all the way to the present.

Ok thats a lie but what would in fact be easier is to list what I have NOT owned.

TurboGrafx 16
Atari Lynx (if we are counting handhelds)
Wii
WiiU

So yeah, more than close enough.

Playstation One > PS2 > Nintendo DS > Wii > 3ds > PC

That's my History. QUite small, but it's what I like. I will probably not be buying another console, unless it is a Nintendo Handheld.
