What is your console history?

Started with a Playstation that my mom bought for me and my sister. Got a PS2 a few years after release. Went for that console because of Ratchet & Clank and Final Fantasy X, basically.
Later on I bought Gamecube for the Zelda games, but I've hardly used it. This gen I first bought a Xbox 360 since a friend had it, but got a PS3 after about a year due to the much better exclusives and have hardly touched the 360 since.
I plan on getting a PS4, but it's not a priority. My PS3 should last a while longer.

Oh this is fun!

I started with a Spectrum 128k, then a NES, Sega Megadrive (aka Genesis), PS1, PS2 and currently Xbox 360 (sometimes I wonder if this last one was a mistake).

As for PC Gaming, at around the same time I got the NES I also got an old 286 PC (66Mhz when in "Turbo" mode and with 4Mb RAM if I remember correctly), then a 486 (100Mhz I think), Pentium (300Mhz CPU If my memory serves and my first 3D card about this time which was a 3DFX Voodoo Banshee with a whooping 16Mb VRAM), Pentium 2, Pentium IV, then the Dual-Cores, etc.

My current PC ain't so hot. Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz with 4Gb RAM and a Radeon 4500 (700Mb of dedicated graphics memory). It sounds bad but it actually has quite a surprising performance... I can play games like Dead Island, Xcom, Diablo, etc with high quality graphics. Which for a 4 year old PC that cost me ?500 we all can agree is pretty impressive!

N64->GBA/PS2->PSP/Xbox360->PC/PsVita

I went with what I got for christmas, which had to be a surprise. Not saying I didn't get some amazing surprises! But it took until now to get a PC because they can be pretty expensive, and I had to get a job of my own to pay for one.

Let me see...

1. a famiclone
2. 386 (could have been a 486 or 286, not sure), windows 3.11 PC
3. Similar PC with windows 95
4. PlayStation
5. Intel Celeron PC with some crappy integrated video card and Windows 98 SE
6. AMD 64 PC with GF 5500 and windows XP
7. PSP
8. A Laptop with a C2D and GF 9600M.

Never on the "cutting edge" but I rarely felt left out.

Hmm let's see.

Started with a Spectrum 48k with rubber keys.
Then a Spectrum 128k with much less satisfying 'hard' keys
Sega Megadrive as most of my friends had this rather than the NES
Had the Sega Master System downgrade you could plug on top so I could borrow my friends games
Sega Mega CD
286 PC
386 PC
486 PC (updgraded processor / RAM / sound card / GPU a couple of times).
PS2
Gaming PC - I won't list the specs (also upgraded and overclocked most bits) and was my main gaming platform for a long time
PSP
Wii - my only Nintendo console ever... Some good games for sure but hasn't convinced me to 'go Nintendo'
PS3 - probably my 2nd most used gaming platform. I for one have got A LOT out of this gen.
X360 - rarely used, just a couple of exclusives
iPad
Galaxy S4 - for the commute :O)

Planning on PS4 for next gen and toying with the thought of building a new gaming PC, which probably won't happen.

You're the 2nd Amstrad PC guy in this thread! I thought I was up on my toys, but I'd never even heard of this one.

Was it a PC that could double as a Sega Genesis?

Interesting that you are thinking PC rather than PS4 at this time. I'm having a lot of fun with my PC but love my PS3 too.

Started with something like this:

Commodore 64, traded my 1973 Dodge Charger SE for it. I wasn't using the car, and this thing had a ton of games.
NES: Brother in law sold it cheap to me as it was sucking his life away!
SNES & 486 SX 25
N64 and 120 Mhz Pentium PC (I wanted to continue playing console Zelda games)
400 Mhz AMD PC
PS2 and Ghz PC (PCs, always get the fastest that you can afford: PS2, I had to play FF10.
Dreamcast (got it cheap, sold it when I realized I have limited time and should focus on the best, most affordable I can get)
Gamecube and Xbox: Cube so my daughter could play Annimal Crossing. Co-worker gave me an Xbox he got for attending an IT class. He didn't know what it was or how to use it and didn't want it.
360, so I could play Halo 3 in HD on my new $3,000 1080P DLP 50" TV. I could get something way, way, way better for under $500 today, in 7 short years!
PS3 so I could play Blurays, but I've come to love it for Streaming Netflix, free online play, and Uncharted 2, which is 2nd of my top 10 games of the generation.
Since that 400 Mhz AMD PC, I've been building my own PCs. I'm up to a 2600K 16 Gigs of 1333, HD 7970, 850 watt pwr, internal bluray burner/player on a 32" 1080P LED monitor. Steam is what is mostly emptying my wallet these days.

For "consoles" (excluding PCs and handhelds):-
-Atari 2600
-NES
-N64
-GCN
-Wii

For "computers":-
-An old box I can barely recall that took 5 1/4 inch floppies
-Amstrad PPC 512
-Pentium 166
-Various other PCs I wouldn't know how to name

For "handhelds"
-Gameboy (clear case)
-Atari Lynx (model 2)
-Dingoo A320
-Yinlips YDPG16 (absolute piece of garbage)
-GCW Zero

This is fun...

Okay. My folks bought me an NES practically the month of the US release after I got out of some surgery. I was five at the time, I think. The surgery kept me off of my feet and isolated for 6 months or so, and they thought it would help me pass the time.

From there, I got a SNES for my 12th or 13th birthday, and didn't buy another console until the Xbox 360. I played PC games during the interim. I totally missed out on the N64/Dreamcast/PS1 era, as well as the Gamecube/Xbox/Ps2 era.

Fixed for ya. :p

You've seriously missed out on a ton of awesome games, and that makes me sad. I've missed out on most of this past generation, but from what I've heard it was mostly crap anyway. I have a decent PC now so I can catch up.

Apple Macintosh Performa 5400
IBM PC (i486, Windows 3.1, MS DOS)
Gameboy Colour
PS1
PS2
Dell PC (Pentium 4, Windows XP)
Self built PC (Core 2 Quad, GTX 260 => GTX 760, Windows 7 RC 64bit => Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit => Windows 8 Pro 64bit)
Asus 1215b netbook (AMD E350, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit => Windows 8 Pro 64bit)
Ouya (brown limited edition)

The Apple was the first family PC. Got it '96. Doom, Sim City, Myst, Wing Commander 3.
The IBM was an older machine I got fourth hand from a family member. Commander Keen, Scorched Earth, Captain Comic.
I got the Game Boy for Pokemon Yellow and not much else. Also had Blaster Master Boy, Final Fantasy Legend II.
PS1 was all about Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Colin McRae Rally, Tomb Raider, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2
PS2 was Tony Hawks Underground, Gran Turismo 4, San Andreas, Tekken 5, Socom 2, WRC 2.
The Dell was where I picked up Counter Strike: Source, Half-Life, Battlefield 1942, Age of Empires.

My self built rig has been used for pretty much everything and anything of note since 2009. When I built it I used the release candidate of Windows 7 seeing as it was free. Bit of a gamble at the time seeing as Vista had an awful reputation and I didn't really understand all that much about why that was at the time. I have been an early adopter of Windows 8 due to having early access through uni. Seeing as I didn't corrupt my opinion with narrow minded reviews from other people who are scared of new things I only took a few weeks to get it all figured out and I have never looked back.

I got the Ouya yesterday. So far I like it a lot and think it will serve as a nice casual gaming platform and media centre.

From the Magnavox Odyssey and Atari consoles all the way to the present.

Ok thats a lie but what would in fact be easier is to list what I have NOT owned.

TurboGrafx 16
Atari Lynx (if we are counting handhelds)
Wii
WiiU

So yeah, more than close enough.
Do you have the... Piooneer Laseractive, Nuon, Halcyon, Bandia Playdia, Casio Loopy, PC-FX, Apple Bandai Pippin, Atari Jaguar/Jaguar CD, Amiga CD-32, Neo Geo CDZ, Neo Geo CD, Neo Geo AES, 3DO (FZ-1, FZ-10, Goldstar, Sanyo Try), Phillips CD-I (the many Different versions), Commodore C64GS, MB Vectrex, Fairchild Channel F, RCA Studio II, Interton AC-4000, Casio PV1000, Amstrad GX4000, Daewood Zemmix, Memorex VIS, FM Towns Marty, Capcom CPS Changer, Sony PSX, Techtoy Zeebo, Sega SG-1000, Vtech Creativision, Epoch Cassettevision, Sega 32X, Sharp Twin Famicom/Famicom Disk System, Nintendo BS-X Satellaview, Atari XE, Atari 5200, Panasonic Q, Ouya, IQue, Virtual Boy, Sega Wondermega/Multimega/X-Eye, Commodore CD-TV, Nintendo 64DD, Action Max, Supergrafx, Tomy Pyuuta jr.

If you have even half of these, i would be damn impressed. All of them, then i would refer you to the nearest medical clinic for extreme OCD problems. Especially if you have a Casio Loopy, which was a Japanese only system aimed at girls.

I own a few of the better obscure systems (Jaguar, 3DO, Turbografx), and most of the mainstream ones from the 16 bit era up. I would cut my own limbs off to own a Neo-Geo though, but they are so expensive.

My console history looks like this:

GameBoy Color > PlayStation > GBA > PS2 > DS Lite > PSP > Xbox > GameCube > SNES > PS3

Stuff like the Xbox and the GameCube were all just extra consoles I bought after they were ended when I started earning money for myself and I decided I wanted to go back and see what stuff I'd missed on the other consoles. Same for the SNES except I didn't buy it; my brother just passed it down to me.

The DS, PSP and PS3 are my most up-to-date consoles. I'm looking into getting a 3DS as soon as I can afford one - I have a Kingdom Hearts game to play, as well as Fire Emblem and the upcoming Legend of Zelda and Pokemon games to try out, amongst others. I'd like to upgrade to a Vita at some point as well, but I've not seen enough stuff for it that would really warrant a purchase yet - I'd like to try out Assassin's Creed: Liberation and Persona 4 Golden, but that's still not enough for my to justify splashing out on a new handheld. I do mean to get around to getting a Wii or a Wii U as well.

Next generation I'll probably get a PS4. Sticking with Sony seems like a fair bet so far, although as ever I won't be getting one until late in its lifetime, I imagine.

NES (from about birth until about the early 90's: before I was in 1st grade so...93 or, 94. I got a front-loading NES in 2010 and, top-loading NES in 2011)

SNES (from roughly 94 until about 97. I ended up getting another SNES back in 2008 or 2009)

Gameboy Pocket (No idea when I had it but I know I had it...definitely played Pokemon and Zelda DX on it)

Nintendo 64 (Christmas 1997 up to this day: It's currently hooked up to my TV and, my girlfriend has one too which is also hooked up to her TV)

Game Boy Color (from 1998 until about...2002? Very rough guess...could be confusing this with GB-Pocket)

Sony Playstation (Christmas 1996 until roughly 2002...or 2003...can't remember when it went away)

Dreamcast (2000 until about 2004...I think...I ended up getting another Dreamcast in 2011)

Xbox (Christmas 2001 to this day. Admittedly, Dad sold our original but I did get another one eventually)

Gameboy Advance (2002 to this day...It's just decommissioned because DSlite)

Sony Playstation 2 (2003 to the present day...it doesn't work though but the silver-slim I got in 2012 does!)

Sony PSP (2006 to 2007)

Xbox 360 (2006 to this day...however, I'm on my third...)

Nintendo DSlite (2007 to this day)

Sony Playstation Portable-3000 (2009 to...I think I still have it...)

Nintendo Gamecube (2009 to this day)

Nintendo DSi (2010 to this day...mostly decommissioned)

Sony Playstation 3 (2010 to this day...it moved before I could though and I miss it...)

Nintendo 3DS (2011 to this day)

Retron 3 (an all-in-one console that I grabbed in 2011 to this day)

Virtual Boy (2011 to this day: I freaking love this thing and want more Teleroboxer!!)

Nintendo Wii U (Launch-day to this day...duh)

Nintendo Famicom (2013 at a con...it doesn't work)

Neo Geo X (earlier this year (2013) because it was on clearance)

Not listed are things like gaming PCs and, earlier Sega consoles. I could play some games on the home PC like Final Fantasy VII, Duke Nukem and, Time Commando back during the days when Dreamcast was just coming out. I also had access to the Sega Genesis but it wasn't mine...same with the Wii and, Gamecube for the longest time. I just use my Wii U to play Wii games at this point. I own a Super Gameboy but don't count that as its own console and while I plan on grabbing a 32X and, Sega CD eventually, I don't think I would count those as separate systems due to their reliance on a core console.

I want to want a PS-Vita and I think I'll finally grab one once J-Star Victory is out. I plan on grabbing a Retron-5 as well once that's out so that I can hopefully make some let's plays and finally play the Famicom games I grabbed at MAGfest. Microsoft really soured me to the XBone80 so once Infamous: Second Son is out on the PS4 I'll probably grab that.

At the moment, my favorite console is probably the Wii U or PS2 but I'm kind of cheating with the PS2 since I use it to play Playstation games. I play with my gamecube but I'm playing the Mega Man X collection with that which is a compilation of SNES and PSX games anyway so no points there. Funny enough I've been playing almost nothing but Brawl on my Wii U too...so I guess I'm REALLY freaking backwards!

Oh, you. :p Windows 8 has a lot of design flaws that aren't simply spawned from viewpoint corruption and a fear of new things, and those flaws are there solely to make the experience as top-end superficial as possible. It's also an attempt to make one solution fit to six problems, and that is simply lousy practice.

As for my history...

ZX Spectrum 48K
-> arcades
-> Amstrad CPC 6128
-> my dad's 486 SX 33 based PC -> (Spectrum emulator)
-> my stepmum's NES
-> my mum's Pentium 200
-> Cyrix 266 (my Dad built it for me for a birthday present :)
-> own built Athlon 2000 -> (emulators for arcades, Amiga, Mega Drive, SNES and PS1)
-> upgrade to Athlon 3200
-> GBA (NES styled SP)
-> PS2 (Slimline)
-> DS (Lite)
-> motherboard replacement to Athlon 64 3400
-> 360 (S 250Gb)
-> Core 2 Duo E6850 (gifted from friend)
-> own built i7-4770K, which will be awesome as soon as Scan send me a working graphics card, the pricks.

That's it. Those were the things I own and played on.
Once you have a PC, you don't need anything else.
