What is your dump stat?

Intelligence is useful, Mages are boring and weak.

Constitution is overrated, just be a dodge-fag.

Wisdom/Willpower is only for priests, and nobody plays priests.

'Bout sums it up for me. Nobody likes playing D&D with me anymore for some reason...Sigh.

I've never played DD, I've never seen anyone play it and I don't know anyone who plays it.

I'd like to try it one day, though.

Constitution. Mostly due to a slight metabolic disorder that results in me getting tired fast and take a long time to recover.

I tend to ignore the "ironing underwear"-stat. Pretty useless, unless you play an underwear-ironing type of class.

Luck or Charisma usually, I generally find the world is a much simpler place where i can solve my problems with swords and guns instead of reason and peace :D

Constitution/Intelligence...

I like to focus on beating stuff down quickly, therefore, I don't need much defence. Best defence is a good offence (and a couple of really sharp swords).

I'm also almost never a mage (prefer the hands on approach), so any magic related stats usually get shafted pretty hard.

To be honest I never put much into things like strength and endurance. I focus on the intelligence, wisdom and dexterity, then charisma. I just don't like playing the strong warrior type much.

Strength. Usually I play casters/rogues/ranged fighters, so I don't need to hit hard with a sword, but if I do I can grab weapon finesse and voila, I use my dex modifier instead of strength!
This. Also, once you have a Bag of Holding, strenght becomes less interesting for rogue.

For a rogue with weapon finesse, sneack attack damage outweighs strength damage. As a cleric or wizard you can always use a spells to gain more strenght for fighting with big weapons. From level 10 on those spells will last as long as the encounter, which is the only time you need it. Constitution used to be a dump stat, using a combination of feats and equipment to get my AC up to 42+, but you will always get hit by something (damage spells that require a fortitude or reflex savingthrow), so it's not a dump stat anymore. Also, the high AC pissed off my DM. Charisma is a popular dumpstat, but I've always been a sucker for wanting to be the negotiator.

Wisdom, most likely. I'm pretty smart, very personable, reasonably mobile, somewhat above average strength (thank you pushing carts at Walmart), and can take a massive amount of physical punishment (yet strangely enough can't run for an extended time). But, I'm somewhat oblivious to my surroundings. SO yeah, Wisdom.

EDIT: Oh, in game! Erm...Well, I normally play Paladins, so I focus on Strength, Wisdom, and Charisma first, Dexterity and Constitution after that, and then Intelligence. So, Intelligence.

Constitution. If I'm taking damage then I'm failing at my job ^^' I tend to role up rogues, the first of which was based on one specific character I created who due to RP reasons had a low con score. I found out that through good tactics my Rogue could survive 99% of the battles they were in, simply because they never got hit. All with a Con score or 8 or less.

Typically though I dump whichever stat fits best with the character I made. Ie. My Fighter with a knee injury (I made him BEFORE Skyrim) has a low Dex and my absent-minded wizard has a terrible Wis. It's never about the BEST character to play, it's the one who's story I like most ^^

Always boost the most useless stat. I might need it for something later. Like the resistance stat in Dark Souls. Get that to 99 before anything else. I don't wanna be poisoned, cursed, toxic, or anything else.

Charisma as i prefer to let others do the talking n' intimidating.

When the group is in trouble or danger is about charisma is good for naught whereas strength, dexterity and constitution are needed in physical combat and intelligence and wisdom help keep the mind sharp and ward of hostile enchantments or spells.

That depends on the game and on the choosen class.

Suppose it's a game based on D&D 3rd edition or D20, then it's easier to start with stats that are not dump stats.

Constitution is not a dump stat, unless it's pointbuy CC where you can't drop below an unmodded CON=8. Doesn't need to be a high score, but 3 is suicide.
Dexterity isn't something you want to score lower than 10. Low scores make the PC too vulnerable to be viable.

Intelligence is rarely a dump stat, because there's always some skills worth maxing out, but since skills/level cannot drop below 1, it makes little difference for a fighter and a cleric to be cursed with an 8 or a 3, so it happens.
Strength is a dump stat for mages only. Any other class should have atleast enough strength to carry armor and gear. Even then damage penalties will still gimp any DEX builds.

That leaves wisdom and charisma as the only true dump stats.
When charisma isn't a primary class ability then there's rarely any need for more than 1 party companion to have it.
Wisdom does improve WILL saves, but having low saves or really low saves doesn't make enough to difference to justify any expense. Better to cast clarity or prot.from evil whenever appropriate on such a PC, than to rely on poor willsave bonuses to fail you.

I have a friend who always rolls chaotic neutral death magnets, and he just sees the death of a character as a chance to roll up something even more ridiculous. Your mileage may vary.
"chaotic neutral death magnets" made me lol quite hard. Good name for a band too XD

If pressed to name one, Strength. But I prefer to have an overall fairly balanced (but unremarkable) character, rather than one with amazing stats in her field of choice and near uselessness outside of it.
I totally want to see you play a FATE based RPG

Anyway, I don't have a goto dump stat, because that's a silly idea. Your only dump stats should be whatever doesn't fit whatever character you're playing at the time.
the OP would be screwed if he played a cleric in DND

Also, it's hilarious seeing all the people talk about different games stats. At least half of you are DND and most of the rest are Bethesda games.
Dude, feel lucky that you have a tabletop gaming community big enough to support games other than D&D, and that you apparently have time to play them. I know where I could go to get into a game of Car Wars or Mechwarrior, but those groups meet on weeknights; most people don't even have that kind of access.

You're absolutely right about what a dump stat should be, though.

Strength usually. There are usually a ton of strength boosting spells or items straight from the start, so there isn't much of a down side to skipping it in favour of the caster, or adventure stats.

Plus I like weedy barbarians suddenly turning butch and macho after muttering a few words!

Health or anything that caters to health, am I planning on sucking? Nope, then I got no use for it(Which usually ends up with me getting my ass handed to me but still fun).

That and anything which makes me stronger in physical combat(read:melee) since I like to play assassin or archer.

My poop stat is up to 145. Top that!

OP: In Fallout, usually it is strength. In D&D, it'd depend on my class, but considering I like to play a mage, probably strength and dexterity.
