I think a metal detector would be extremely useful (even one that gave a vague idea of where to look.. like a special compass). Otherwise I find myself wandering and hoping to find a glitchy hole going all the way down so I can see where the goods are (hehe found some diamonds the other day this way).

I don't think that they need to make the game any easier. You can already find a group of diamond about ever twenty minutes to a half-hour if you shaft mine. If you want easier just use mods. I agree that blue dye should be more common though. I've been planning on doing some pixel art without an inventory editor and...yeah, it's going to take longer than I thought.

Edit: Just thought of something I do want. A range weapon that shoots straight. You find out very quickly just how pitiful the bow's range is when you try to build a railway through the nether.

Hmm I like all these suggestions. I think it's time zombies dropped something more interesting than feathers too and let's find some more uses for gold!

There is actually a mod for the sluice gate, called floodgate. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=93171) There's a link to it there, and to alot of other useful mods too, probably a mod for everything you mentioned.

What does everybody have against the idea of an ore detector? Do you guys LIKE having to spend hours digging around randomly and praying you'll find some ore?

Or is it because that would make the game less based around dumb luck?

EDIT: Also I love how Minecrafts grind is "making you earn your rewards" (that you might not get because you dug in the wrong direction) while the grind in MMOs (where a reward is guaranteed eventually) is "Artificial Padding" Hypocrisy much?

Bursts of coloured confetti and sounds of fanfares and rounds of applause playing whenever you successfully kill an exploding bush monster before it gets to you.

That would be nice.
I wouldn't have minded that when I beat Borderlands...

How about another freaking use for Gold? Or a single use for Gravel?

Both are fairly useless.

I've got one for Gold, actually:

Torch - Gold - Torch
Gold - Gold - Gold

Would make a Chandeleir.

How about landmines? You could use them to fuck up enemies. Oh and some fences with sharp spears sticking out so if and anemy fails to jump over it takes damage.
Place a pressure pad on top of a TNT crate. Job done.

Hehe, i'll only say one thing, and that's commenting on the last request, get a diamond sword, run towards it when it gets relatively close and as quickly as possible hit it twice with the sword and you got yourself some sulfur :p Or alternatively if you're not as suicidal as i am when playing minecraft, feather + stick + flint = arrows, two of each should be enough to get enough arrows to shoot the green cocks down and bows are simply enough 3x string and 3x sticks ^^ Of course i'm assuming you already know all this since you were playing it for some time ;>

Hate to burst your bubble but tnt can only be made by materials either gained from a ghast or indeed, an exploding green cock =/

Jin's Creeper Slayin' Tutorial:

What you'll need;

- 4 dirt blocks
- 1 TNT

When the creeper is running directly towards you, quickly build a vertical square between you and him, out of the dirt.

[][] - Dirt
[][]
===== Ground

The creepers don't know the 'go AROUND the dirt' tactic of getting you, so said wall should keep him in place, pressing his face into your awesome mudshield in fury. Now, place the TNT on the ground on your side of the square, and back away in a straight line, keeping the middle of the dirt-square between you and the creeper at all times. As you back off, hit the TNT.

Collect your free sulphur.

But gods help you if there are two of them.
Uh, that's horrible. You're wasting tnt to collect sulpher to make tnt. A more proper way to do that with 4 dirt 2 sand.

You
[]
[]
[] - Dirt
[]
===== Ground

And then that indignant little shit finally stops trying to jump up to reach you drop 2 sand off the side on top of him. While under those two block he takes damage from being crushed under all that sand until he dies, break your way back to the ground and collect. This work on zombies and spiders too if you can get the spiders to stop climbing up to you. And spiders only need 1 block. Although they're more likely to die from the sword swings and the fall damage of being 4 blocks up. I usually go out at night with a stone sword, stack of dirt and sand to go hunting for them that way. The only thing I run from is skeletons because I typically only go out with a sword and leave my bow in the cave for digging.

I've been playing Minecraft since the alpha, and even paid for it as I enjoyed it so much.

A few little changes would indeed be nice, and I think Yahtzee has hit a few little ideas. I would really like a trapdoor.

And as for a metal detector of some sort for ore would be rather nice, something akin to a geiger counter that ticked the closer you got.

Overall minecraft is good fun, but not for everyone. But then again isn't that everything?

Digging toward that watery/moaning noise to find a cave isn't dumb luck. And even if you do decide to keep on digging trying to find a cave, it might take you what, five to twenty minutes at most? If thats still not good enough for you, go walk around on the overworld a bit. Won't take long at all to find some adventure. And who ever said reward isn't guaranteed? Are you saying that mining does not eventually guarantee five stacks of cobblestone, which can be used to make a shelter(AKA - Reward).

And FYI, you don't HAVE to mindlessly dig to enjoy minecraft. I, for example, don't build anything major at all but simply explore the terrain. I may go ahead and explore that cave I just found, and prepare to fight various mobs. The most grinding I have to do here is getting a few blocks of wood to make a door and to block of the entrance to the cave, so that enemies won't get me from behind. Which begs the question, how you played Minecraft at all, or done anything else other than what you have seen people do?

And to make your whole argument invalid at some point in time, I have heard there will be an updated version of "creative mode" which will feature everything Minecraft has now and will have in the future.

Well, I had a thought about it and have decided that I also have something to add:

The ability to build a house made of cake, a diving suit, a teleporter and a hookshot.

Also add The Fae to monsters. Yeah.

I hope a lot more items are added by the final version. I also hope some kind of compass is added that can find a previously set way-point. (maybe you have to craft the compass and a magnetic structure?) I say this because in my largest world I have two houses that I can't find anymore. And one of them has some diamonds in it. I really want those back.
For you and anyone else having this same problem you should look up a tool called cartograph. and watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRqDvY6Bcgs or do a search on youtube for "how to find a caves in minecraft" using cartograph and Gimp together eleminates the need for random searches of ore, and is awesome if youve lost a base like i have, my largest map takes 6 days to get accross x.x dont ask me why, i just did it but it saved me when i got lost

Better farming is what I'm going for. Anything plant that grows, you should be able to farm yourself.

Also, feeding chickens grain should make them lay an egg immediately with a short cooldown.

they should add weather in because rain would be cool and snowy areas would need a way of geting snow back because without weather in the earlyer versions you can't get snow back. also all the trap doors and sluice gates sound really cool

To everyone wanting feature "x" I have a glorious tip. Start your own server and throw on plugins. The recommended one is called Bukkit and it has more mods than you can shake a stick at:

Enjoy!
