Minecraft is balls.... Less balls would fix it....

When you play minecraft you realise that your shoes need cleaning because that would be more fun. When minecraft is "fun" you know you should end your life. In fact it's the perfect litmus test for euthanasia.
I don't hate on your black ops/JRPG/RTS/, you don't hate on my mine-crack. Deal?

And maybe water should be able to flow through doors as well.
I disagree the point of the door is to keep things out so I think if you did want water or lava to flow through it should be like a grate rather than a door.
Maybe it's just been a while since I tried this but I don't think water or lava will flow through an open door. I wouldn't want it to flow through a closed door obviously. If the doors let water in when open then I'm set. I hope the visitors to my house are ready to have lava dropped on their heads.

I agree with the sluice gate but then I haven't tried to make one so it might already be possible without any hassle.

I play this game online, with monsters off, and on a server that's practically creative mode so the rest of the stuff I couldn't really care about.

All in all from these suggestions I'd say, "not being beta" is what yahtzee thinks minecraft is missing.

Ahh, okay fair enough. I guess that would be a good trade, but you know still beta.

I'd like a Compass built into the dsiplay screen; I havent found the materials to build one ingame yet and I'm fuckin tired of digging under ground for 40 minutes then tunneling your way out only to discover that you have no fucking clue where you are.

Like the idea of metal detectors or hints to large Iron/gold veins.
Also a mob of like wandering bandits would be good. They could like make camp around rich mines as an indicator.

I personally would like a locomotive. I have multiple little projects all around my area but it takes forever to walk to each one... and I don't have enough steel to make drops for every rail system... and I can't figure out how to make powered minecarts work.

I like that Yahtzee describe's Minecraft as not being a game. Given that part of Ebert's rant against gaming was that it is always goal oriented and thus cannot be art, a game like Minecraft which apparently is all about creation with occasional exploding hedges, that seems a lot closer to art, and as has been said, no goal. Thus, a game with no goal but still creating art.

In other words, Yahtzee is perpetuating Ebert's rant about gamers, whereas anyone willing to accept that maybe Minecraft can be a game that is just the wide open sandbox, well that's a game that might be art.

In short, Yahtzee is the one now behind the times, ranting about the good old days.

a crossbow for S&Gs. and more uses for gold, it is so rare yet completely useless. hey guys! i just used 4 gold bars to make a clock. now what? and being able to teleport to the nether world in multi-player would be nice (i know thats difficult to do but its worth a shout-out) but its still an awesome game.

I think a metal detector would be extremely useful (even one that gave a vague idea of where to look.. like a special compass). Otherwise I find myself wandering and hoping to find a glitchy hole going all the way down so I can see where the goods are (hehe found some diamonds the other day this way).

I don't think that they need to make the game any easier. You can already find a group of diamond about ever twenty minutes to a half-hour if you shaft mine. If you want easier just use mods. I agree that blue dye should be more common though. I've been planning on doing some pixel art without an inventory editor and...yeah, it's going to take longer than I thought.

Edit: Just thought of something I do want. A range weapon that shoots straight. You find out very quickly just how pitiful the bow's range is when you try to build a railway through the nether.

Hmm I like all these suggestions. I think it's time zombies dropped something more interesting than feathers too and let's find some more uses for gold!

There is actually a mod for the sluice gate, called floodgate. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=93171) There's a link to it there, and to alot of other useful mods too, probably a mod for everything you mentioned.

What does everybody have against the idea of an ore detector? Do you guys LIKE having to spend hours digging around randomly and praying you'll find some ore?

Or is it because that would make the game less based around dumb luck?

EDIT: Also I love how Minecrafts grind is "making you earn your rewards" (that you might not get because you dug in the wrong direction) while the grind in MMOs (where a reward is guaranteed eventually) is "Artificial Padding" Hypocrisy much?

Bursts of coloured confetti and sounds of fanfares and rounds of applause playing whenever you successfully kill an exploding bush monster before it gets to you.

That would be nice.
I wouldn't have minded that when I beat Borderlands...

How about another freaking use for Gold? Or a single use for Gravel?

Both are fairly useless.

I've got one for Gold, actually:

Torch - Gold - Torch
Gold - Gold - Gold

Would make a Chandeleir.

How about landmines? You could use them to fuck up enemies. Oh and some fences with sharp spears sticking out so if and anemy fails to jump over it takes damage.
Place a pressure pad on top of a TNT crate. Job done.

Hehe, i'll only say one thing, and that's commenting on the last request, get a diamond sword, run towards it when it gets relatively close and as quickly as possible hit it twice with the sword and you got yourself some sulfur :p Or alternatively if you're not as suicidal as i am when playing minecraft, feather + stick + flint = arrows, two of each should be enough to get enough arrows to shoot the green cocks down and bows are simply enough 3x string and 3x sticks ^^ Of course i'm assuming you already know all this since you were playing it for some time ;>
