What's the game that scared you the most?

The Suffering was good, I liked the enemy design. It had some creep factor too it, but not a pants wetting experience.

Crimson Butterfly 2 was very creepy. I like the helpless factor, you don't have a real gun and you have to go into a very vulnerable 1st person mode to attack. Don't know if it was done deliberatly to add to the scare factor, but if it was, it was brilliant.

I thought the game based on The Thing was pretty good. Like the movie you had that isolation feel and you didn't know who was the thing. Plus they kept the music from the movie, I loved that.

Another one that really scared the piss out of me was Alien vs. Predetor 2, playing as the marines. You got the all to familiar sound of the motion tracker and you had no damn idea what was making it or where it was going to come from. And there were parts where you could hear the predator but not see him obviously. That was creepy.

Bioshock did have some creepy moments, especially the crazy talk of the splicers. Although it kinda got like oblivion in that they had the same voices, but I'm nit picking.

Like so many others, Silent Hill 2 scared me when I played it the first time. Not so much because of how damn scary it was with the lights out and the sound up, but more because I was playing it on my friends system, and he would scream any time anything scary happened.

Fatal Frame is still the scariest game I've played alone.

Old game called Realms Of The Haunting. Wasn't really scary per se just had a certain atmosphere. You would find a record player make it play and hear children and women screaming playing through it. Coupled with enemies that would spawn right in front of you and make this shriek as they appear.

Would make you jump a bit if you weren't expecting it. Mixed with enemies that took a good number of shots limited ammo and health and a game world that is rather bizarre made for quite a good game back then.

Good to see that no one has played the un-fucking-disputed kings of horror gaming, Penumbra: Overture and its sequel, Penumbra: Black Plague.

When Half Life 2 first came out on PC.

"We Don't Go To Ravenholme!" In the middle of the night with like no ammo or health... I was just genuinely spooked.

Or Resident Evil 3 when I was like 8. Whenever Nemesis chased me I was freaked.

Alot of people seem to think bioshock was really frightening but, although i haven't gotten really far into the game yet, I don't think it's that scary.

Duke Nukem. I still have nightmares about the pig cops in air planes.
Its not funny. Don't laugh at me. =(

Actually, I have a bunch of scaries from DOS FPSs. I don't really remember most of them. I tried to play Duke Nukem once with all the cheats on, and no monsters, but I was horrified and was coated in a cold sweat.
Hey, that what scared me when I was a kid....

Wait. It was Duke Nukem 64.

Resident Evil. Particularily the chainsaw dudes or Regenerators.

Probably Half-Life 2, any episodes. The headcrabs don't scare me, but the crawlers and the skinny zombies, the ones that jump at you, make me piss my pants and let loose half a clip of MSG fire.

I'll have to give an honourable mention to Bioshock (the first bits anyways) and Half Life 2 (Ravenholm).

As for the game that scared the most, it'll have to be Hitman. It's not a scary game per se, but I had never played a game with blood before I picked this game up from the video shop to rent. Before Hitman, I'd only played Jak 1 and Donkey Kong, and I was about 10. The game starts you off in an asylum, and there are dead guys with blood on the walls. Too much for the younger me to handle. I reckon that freaked me out the most.

You know, it kind of depends what you mean... in terms of being effective, but not necessarily a good game, Doom 3 was scary as all hell. I couldn't play more than 30 minutes at a time. But definitely agree with the folks that talked about Ravenholm... omg, the sound of the quick zombies... fear inducing.

When I played Doom 3 with the lights turned off and the music loud, I actually screamed. Scariest game to date yet played

When I was 9 I tried to watch my cousin play Resident Evil 2. Notice that I used the word "tried". I couldn't sleep for days. The same can be said about Silent Hill.

F.E.A.R. gave me the shakes; those ninjas, Alma, and that crazy SOB Fettel. For a minute, I actually thought Alma was supposed to kill me.

Resident Evil 4: Just when I though the RE series was more about cheep thrills than actual scares, I played this. Those guys that look like wolverine on steroids freaked the hell out of me, then there's the regenerators, of course, with their freaky breathing.

Not gonna lie Killer 7. I'm playing it now and it's really fucking with my head. Everything is so weird. WEIRD.
