Usually a 9. Sometimes up to a 10 in rare cases, but I don't like the uber-heavy stuff most of the time.

7.5 going by that scale.

Currently listening to Manowar, and i'm guessing that's about where they'd be too.

I listen to Shoegaze, so a 7 maybe...it's heavier than most Metal anyway, despite being a genre of Alternative Indie.

Proof is in the pudding.

The Shoegaze, and Black Metal fusion Blackgaze is even heavier, and makes My Bloody Valentine seem like Nickleback.

This is obviously a 8, closing up to a 9.

I'd say about 5 - 8. Slipknot is probably as heavy as I go. Also, I'm totally not using this thread as an excuse to tell people about a band I recently discovered.

...and yes, the vocalist is a bird
You've been watching the Gamestation podcast, haven't you?

I'd say I'm anywhere between 6-8, with just a smattering of 9. Dragonforce, Rhapsody of Fire, Powerglove, those are all fine and good. Mostly 6 or 7, with just a few individual songs touching 8. Meanwhile...
I know this isn't the hardestcore metal, but as far as sheer headbanging potential, I like to think this is godly amazing.
Also:
That's the smattering of 9.

If Whole Lotta Love clocks in at a 7, the highest would probably be around 9, but that's definitely an outlier; I prefer ~6.
Also, apparently Immigrant Song is only a 5. I would think it's harder than Whole Lotta Love, but I guess I wouldn't really know.

10-11 useally. Some times though, I love listening to the softer.. 6-9. But I do prefer 10-11. Often I'm looking for harder stuff. Can't get brutal enough! \m/

Hey this is a (vaguely) interesting take on the Metal Thread....

Okay I would mostly listen 9-10 but with having listened to some music from the 11 range before... But I really can't take it seriosly at that point.

But What happens if you listen to Industrial? Like where does that sit on the Heavy Scale? Because some of the Aggrotech that I have been listening too ov late would sit somewhere between 8-11...

Anyway Examples will be wanted wont they?

Moonspell
Angelspit
Dimmu Borgir
Meshuggah
Periphery
Tesseract
Dark Tranquillity
asphyxia
Behemoth
Turisus
Children of Bodom
A Day to Remember
Psyborg Corp.
Devildriver
Heaven Shall Burn
In Flames
Kreator
Katatonia
Combichrist
Lamb of god
Ministry
Sonic Syndicate (havn't listened to them in a while... Forgot I had a CD of them...)
Suicide Silence
Arsis
Before the Dawn
Taktical Sekt
Helloween
Opeth
Mindless Self Indulgence (not sure if metal or punk or what... But they would probably fit on the chart.... somewhere....)
Muderdolls
pzychobitch

Is that Enough?

Because I would really hope so...

well according to the scale I range from the rare 1 to the rare 11. based on the descriptions of the different levels, and the examples given I tend to hang around an 8.

on that note I know for a fact that a friend of mine literally only really listens to those genres/subgenres and bands that would be classified in the 10 or 11 range. I don't understand how he can listen to that all day, but to each their own.

more than anything this is an interesting study of rock and metal music forms.

Judging by that scale I'd say I tend to hover around 8-9 for most of my musical tastes though I'll happily drop right down to 1 for certain musicians and styles but bands like Kataklysm, Obituary and Hypocrisy do come up a fair bit for me so I guess it's only the stuff in 11 that I really don't enjoy. Growled vocals are cool but I still like to hear the lyrics for the most part and with Grindcore I really can't.
