What's with "Iron Sights" in today's games?

Reasonable debate snip
Just ignore him mate, he thinks everything he says conclusively proves your points wrong as he says them, even though they're essentially just his opinions. You can't reason with people like that. I've seen the same thing a hundred times. Some people just can't grasp that you can be proficient at a game mechanic and think it sucks balls at the same time. Every single time I've mentioned how awful GTA IV's car handling is, people always just to the same conclusion: "Ju don't lik it cos u suk at eet!" It's pretty obvious that realism ruined GTA IV. One may argue that the game is not actually realistic, which is fairly true, but it's hard to deny that it was the pursuit of more realism that made GTA IV such a turd. I wouldn't say the GTA games were headed more realistic at all- true there was a jump from 2D to 3D, but Vice City was way less realistic than 3, and San Andreas was basically the same gameplay with far more features. There was no evolution towards GTAIV's sudden 'lets make the player take a yard and a half's worth of space just to turn around while on foot' approach, nor did the brakes in GTA games steadily progress towards the bald tyred, worn-to-the-metal noexistent brake pads in IV that render any 90º turn unnatainable without starting your brake three city blocks back.

GTA IV. Maybe not ruined by realism, but certainly ruined by the quest for it.

First of all, if you think the GTA games were never headed for realism you never played 3 or you never played 1 and 2 because 3 was a huge leap towards boring realism.

And I say again, what do you have to say to me kid?
This conversation had nothing to do with GTA until he brought it up so drop the fucking subject and explain to me why you and your little friend are accusing me of this shit.

I can take a lot of attacks but I DO NOT STAND FOR FALSE ACCUSATIONS

Understand kid? Stand by that shit you talk or just get the fuck out because I'm sick of little hipster pussies like you talking shit and then running away without saying a word. Little fuckers like you are not even human, your a human looking cancer on our planet. Somewhere down your family tree a freak that should have never breed with a human did and then multiplied. Now we have about a million of you mother fuckers.
Right there's no need for that at all, your acting more childish than anyone else here is this whole thread, your embrassing yourself, please just stop its painful to read this.

You're calling people subhuman because they got a little careless when arguing online. You should probably think about that.

Not to mention their mere presence suggests that you'll never shoot straight unless you are using them. This is one reason why I hated the Wii Goldeneye- the original was as much about running and gunning freely as Unreal Tournament was about headshotting a dude while leaping between skyscrapers in low gravity. Try THAT with Ironsights. Plus it makes every insane kill replay look essentially the same over much of the screen.
What ever happened to games like that? Ever since FPS games went mad with realism I've missed running around with twin pistols or a minigun jumping between buildings while blowing away anything in my path :(
Yes they don't make enough games like halo anymore.

Wait...what?
Indeed what? Halo is nothing like what I'm talking about, it's about one step above the current glut of shooters, but what I'm really talking about is games like UT where the action is frantic and fast paced, no running for 5mins to get an objective, no missing at 2 inches because of the bullet spread.

Jumping from one side of a space ship to another while firing a plasma cannon that turns your enemy to a skeleton, now that is fun.

Granted Bad Company 2 isn't that bad, and I'm having fun with it, but I give it a few more days before I get bored with it and uninstall it, after that it'll likely languish on my list of not-installed steam games like so many other games I've been gifted or grabbed when there on sale.
If you want a game where you can run around with twin pistols or a minigun, is fast paced and you don't have to run 5 mins to get to an objective, and you also don't miss 2 inches away due to bullet spread....

Try CoD, that fits the criteria you want perfectly. :)

I have always liked the, "Iron sights," in games. It's just a realism mechanic, and in most cases, it makes sense.

Then again, I am a HUGE ArmA2 fan, so realism appeals to me. However, even in ArmA2 (the most realistic FPS available to the public right now), there is an option to use the crosshairs on the screen as well. The player can choose to turn them on or off, and it's possible to play the entire game with or without them.

Having said all of that...

The iron sights for the new AA12 are bad, but who really needs to aim an automatic shotgun? You really just mow with it.

Of course I am now. I was fine before right, when you fuckers walked all over me like you cancer cells love to do. Now that I'm throwing those personal attacks back suddenly it's not so fun right?

It's more fun when he just stands there and lets you all walk all over him. It's not fun when he breaks and gets mean.

Fuck you kid, what do you have to say. What was so important about me that you have to attack me as a person? And don't even fucking pretend you didn't do it until I did, we both know that's a damn lie. I'm sick of hearing bullshit lies from little snots like you.
Right mate calling someone sub-human for aguring with you is way to far, you might wanna book yourself in for some anger-managment like seriously. I could understand if these people were muderers or something else horrible that you might be tempted to call them sub-human. But because they called you names. Seriously? You never taught "sticks and stones may break my bones....?" Your being a child. Stop it.

I like to know I'm gonna hit the target with iron sights rather than just tightening the cross hair, not that I mind the tightening but to me its just more reassuring.

Those sights are scary indeed, it's like aiming down a metal broom with a tumor growing out of it :/
