I tend to play DPS characters mostly, other then that I'll play Tank. Never healer or crowd control.

When I'm playing solo I'll usually be a tank but in a group I go for rogue/sneaky types so I can help from a distance or move in real quick in case things go sour.

I always go for a mid-range finesse class.

In FPS's, I love assault rifles that are either single shot or three-round burst.

In anything melee based, I usually go with a staff or spear, with dual blades being my second choice.

Essentially, I want to deal moderate damage quickly and precisely to where it will hurt the worst. Oh, and I love attacking people from unexpected angles.

Speed, precision, and unpredictability.

I'm not sure about this, what class I play depends on my mood and how it handles in the specific game, but if I had to chose something that encompassed most of my play style, it would be the dynamic entry kamikaze warsniper/ninja. Yeah, it's hard to narrow it down, but that cuts out healing and support classes at least. I used to play a lot of sniper in TF2 and other FPS, but I do so offensively, moving forward and taking points and so on. For other classes I like to use trickery or stealth to get into position, then unleash as much chaos as I possibly can, or in an ongoing game, just skip to the chaos, which explains why my other two favorite TF2 classes are Pyro and Demoman. Mostly pyro these days, since I can reflect so much stuff now that soldiers who recognize me automatically switch to shotgun, but I love jumping off of cliffs into a group of guys who are standing on the point, setting them on fire, airblasting them off the point and then shooting them with the flaregun. I don't expect to survive often times either, but I attempt to out of reflex, this has an added bonus of pleasant surprise when I realize I lived for several minutes more than usual.

It doesn't just apply to FPS, but thats all I can think of right now. But It has most potential for hilarity and lucky wins, and the low expectations keep it fresh, so it works for me.

Sneaky Backstabbers/Cassanovas.

In fallout NV I had 1 endurance and 1 strength but 10 charisma and 10 agility. It was hard but fun.

I like to play a mage that can sword fight. Not a paladin, but more of a duelist who uses magic to enchant their blade or speed up their movements. Sort of the Red Mage theory.

Either that or a conjurer/evoker raising elementals and torching people. But uh, not an old man in a dusty robe, something a little more...flashy.
In FFXI, the Red Mage was a sort of jack of all trades. They could use white and black magic (though they learned the spells at higher levels than their counterparts and never learned some spells) which gave them a lot of enfeebling spells, while also using swords and medium armor. Really the Red Mage was the best enfeebling class because they had all the enfeebling spells. They also had their own unique spells such as ones that could enhance their weapons with elemental attributes for extra damage, Dispel (freaking vital!!!), and Refresh, which acted as a MP Regen (UBER FREAKING VITAL!!!). Honestly, the Red Mage was one job whose role in the party changed as they leveled up.

Generally, heavy weapons melee. If it's an option, I almost always use two-handed melee weapons and heavy armour.
You know there is just something satisfying about bashing an enemies head in with a giant two handed sword. I'll agree with that. Which is how I like to play my offensive melee classes.

Still trying to figure out my preferred class, since every time I start a new game I like to experiment with the classes. I usually settle on a healer if they have some mage-like spells as well. I like to nuke a few people in between healing my party.

In RPGs: Mage, no doubt about it! the only place where i enjoyed swordfighting in the slightest was the Assassins Creed series. Even in Mass Effect i'm a hardcore Biotic Junkie to the point where i finished the first game on Hard using a Biotic FemShep, Liara (Biotic) and Wrex (Half Biotic) it was easily the most fun i've ever had in any shooter/RPG (there was barely any shooting)
In FPS: Plenty of grenades + Claymores/Rocket launcher + Shotgun/LMG (if on a small map) OR Assualt Rifle with Noobtube (DEAL WITH IT!)

Physically-weak speedster with a long-range weapon proficiency (though good with a knife or sword). Usually a thief in RPGs or a rusher with an Uzi in shooters or a Talim/Epon/Sakura type character in fighters.

Straight Up stealth ranged, in fact stealth in general. I prefer to kill without being seen, and distance always helps.

Stealth attacker, less damage taken, but if I mess up, I'm screwed, so I try not to mess up :3.

If nothing comes close to that..then a Mage, cold spells often enough.

GranadeThrower-Thief-Diplomat Multiclass.
No matter the setting it's always about talking to people, stealing their stuff, running away when caught, throwing grenades, coming back, robbing what's left...

Healing/Support, In Wow I am priest healer, in BF:BC2 I am medic or Sniper. TF2 Medic or Sniper, in every game I play I am either healer or support or both at the same time.
Mainly because I want to be reliable when it is in need, but not take constant responsibility Argumental sentence healer takes responsibility of keeping people alive,, but hes not constantly in need to heal someone, tank is constantly keeping others safe but he doesn't always need to be healed.
