I believe that the world would be a better place if everybody in it was just bisexual.

Before anyone complains that this is just the self-serving interest of a gay man who's had more than his lion's share of crushes on straight men, that's exactly what it started as.

But the more I thought of this scenario, the more it just... made sense. Nobody, not even the most staunch anti-gay obviously-Christian slack-jawed bible-thumping Palin-supporting dumbass can deny two things:

1) Homophobic bullying is a real fucking problem
2) Gay teenage suicides are always a tragedy and should be prevented whenever possible.

Hence, everybody being bisexual would eliminate a large chunk of bullying, and drastically lower teenage suicide rates. For one simple reason:

- Nobody is going to be a homophobic prick to someone, when everybody has the same orientation. And because of this, no kids will be bullied so badly over their sexuality that they're forced to take their own life.

So, everybody being bisexual is just a very good way to avert horrible, horrible events. As well as remove one of the main reasons people fucking despise the Christian religion, so there'd be less of this "Christians are evil and must be hated grrr!" kind of attitude towards religion that's just taking up pointless amounts of time and fucking energy.

Plus those Ugandan homos wouldn't be forced out of their homes, imprisoned or killed, and I think everyone can agree that this would be a good thing. Poor guys...

Also, it'd remove that whole fucking "does he like dudes?" song and fucking dance that seems to precede every man-on-man relationship in history. Cause trust me, that dog and pony show is a fucking pain in the hole. [sub]And not in the fun way.[/sub]
You have a massively good point, but it can't happen. You've kinda gone onto a tanget because this is less of an opinion and more of a sceanario that's better than ours.
The OP never said it had be realistic or based in reality in any way, so I rendered this, because it is my opinion that shit would be better this way. I know its impossible, but I still think it would be.

As for a generally controversial opinion on a real thing: I think 'Friends' is a pretty shitty sitcom, actually.

I think religions should fuck right off the world. Without any religious people being hurt, except for maybe the Pope, islamists and whatever other people use religion for power and/or harm. I see no reason for why people believe in any of this mumbo jumbo other than greed (the different variants of heaven), it being hammered into their minds throughout their life (any religion and society ever) and the threat of harm (the different punishments of religions, such as hell.)
I sadly won't mention the second opinion of mine because I believe that it would be too controversial, even for this place.
Frankly you are just as bad as the fundi Christians.
Eh, depends on what fundamentalist Christians you're talking about.

I've got a few.

The militant versions of both are equally as annoying. Religious extremists, at their worst are violent, murderous, psychopaths.
But, really, religion is not the root of all evil. Religion is just a set of ideas.
People are the root of all evil, people twist or over analyze religious doctrines just to support their hatred. Without religion the world would have just as many conflicts as it does now, they'd just find more excuses to have those conflicts.

I think the two party system is outdated and unnecessary. It provides a mentality of "us V them" and causes people to vote for candidates based on supposed values rather than their actual ones. I believe a system where candidates are chosen based on their own merits, and not backed by a political party would go a long way towards improving our (America's) government.

It's not exactly sacred and it begins at third trimester. (or whenever an infant can be separated from its mother and still live.) Anything before that is a cluster of cells and medically classified as a parasite. I also believe that scientific testing is alright, provided that fully informed consent is given.

I believe that consoles and PCs are on equal footing and you could have a processor powered by Zeus and it wouldn't amount to crap if you don't have any good games. Consoles are not dumbing down the medium, developers who feel that console players are incapable of advanced thought are. Console players aren't immune to my scorn either, just because your parents could only afford to buy you one console doesn't mean that your console is the best, and shouting obscenities online doesn't make you cool or funny it just makes you a douche bag. And just because Nintendo doesn't have a huge library of M rated games means that it's "kiddy" or "gay" or "casual".
As for "casual games", they're an annoying fad at best. Facebook games and iPod apps carry with them a business model that's bad for the developing games industry. Not all of them are bad, some like Angry Birds, I will concede to being a success and should be rewarded as such. I guess that would apply to Farmville too, but I'm firm in the belief that time sink is just evil.
I know you mentioned game related stuff doesn't really need to be said, but I have to get all that off my chest.

There we go, I think I've pissed more than a few people off. Such is the point of this thread though, right? It feels good to get all this bile out in the open.
Hmm, probably says a lot about me that my longest rant was about videogames.

If every human being died, it would only be a good thing. I include myself in that.

Please contest this opinion, as I would love to change it.
Well in the short term yes, the world would be a much better place for the animals living here and nature itself but without humans the world would be vulnerable to meteors and other dangers from space. Of course I'm assuming that we will eventually create ways of protecting the planet from such things.

In regards to the topic I'd like to see a worldwide 2-child only policy put into practice to help prevent overpopulation. People who concieve say twins instead of a second child would be tolerated but people who deliberately had more wouldn't receive the tax cut incentives and other perks to following the scheme. Also, making sex illegal for anyone under 18 worldwide would also be a fantastic idea to implement.

maybe cause the countries that people dont want having nukes are countries that would use them cause they are giants dicks.

i dont think this oppinion is controversial but i think religion is oudated stone age practice that we as a race should move beyond so that we can take responsibility for our actions. in a similiar way a child stops believing in santa and starts buying presents for his family instead of relying on santa.

global warming is real, is that controversial? also it doesnt matter if its natural or man made the evidence seems to be pointing towards a warming planet. i get annoyed with people who say its a natural process as if that means we can just ignore it. mankind has been the master of the enviroment for ages. if we dont like it we cahnge it, cutting down forests, creating dams etc. so if global warming is a natural process and that process is bad for us which a change in the enviroment would be, why dont we do all we can to prevent it, like reducing co2 etc.

My controversial opinion is that I'm getting tired of all these "Which x do you hate that everyone loves" threads.

I'm sorry, I did not mean to offend you OP. I just felt that I needed to get it out there! (and it is, in fact my opinion ^^)

I believe that all humans with opinions that are based on a lack of knowledge, a predetermined irrational belief, or a general ignorance of knowledge should be educated on the matter that they are debating terribly on, and then shot when they still don't get it.

I also agree with a lot of the religious bashing here. There are a lot of terrible things that can be justified with it, and there is too much brainwashing involved in conversion from one to another. Not to mention the culture destruction that is missionaries and similar viruses, who enter the population of another country with the specific purpose of taking away a part of their culture in order to spread their own.

I also think Wernher von Braun was awesome......
(WTF Spellcheck, Wernher is a word but von and Braun aren't?)

- I'm a Christian and I like Richard Dawkins. Seriously, some of the viewpoints he offers make sense in a certain light, even though I don't entirely agree with him on everything. Brilliant man, good mathematics, and some Christians do make up horrific, close-minded arguments towards the existence of God that don't go anywhere or lend insight to anyone. Then again, it's arguable these are the "false Christians" we often speak of.

- There is no true right or wrong in warfare. Even the worse dicators, brutal leaders, and atrocity makers had good intention and will behind their doing. Not to mention "their" actions alone doesn't paint the entire process, as to what side they advocated, as evil.

- Being raised in a cruel environment is no reason to want to take out your pain on the world later on. Sociology and inner psychology only go so far. You were raped, beaten, and hurt as a child? I am sorry to hear this. I truly, truly am....however, what gives you the right to rage over it all these years later and enact the same actions against others which hurt you in the first place? Thinking the world owes you for pain is a rather sick mentality.

- The history of the United States is without blemish. There was no true "Native American genocide". They died as a consequence of a bad immune system, lost in terms of warfare, and need to understand it as that, publically. - Signed. Someone of Tsalagi and Blackfoot descent. Oh. And there was warfare, death, and famine before the Europeans came here.

- While we're on that topic, stop claiming, for the sake of envoking empathy towards the "poor, societally oppressed illegal immigrant that is starving in another country"....that "all Americans are immigrants". If you were fucking born here, your parents go back a few (pick a good number, I care not how specific), and you have been a responsible human being...you are a native to this land in the same vein as the Native Americans originally were. And even then, there's the theory they are descended from nomadic tribes crossing over from Asia. Stop making ignorant arguments to support people just because you want them to be feed at the behest of our so called "privileged system". You should care more about those born within your own land than you do towards those who are, ahem, "hard-working" in your eyes. Just stop the bullshit arguments and argue something legitimate and logical

- Pointing out the wording people use to express themselves and their opinions to make them look ignorant is a bad argumentative technique. It just says you'd rather attack the surface level of what it sounds like over arguing what the main issues are.

- America needs to cater less towards those who can't support themselves and stop hindering the development of those who can based off of meritocratic, intellectual merits. Some people, because of their ability to think and reason, actually deserve to live a full, long, loving life.

- Black society is at fault for the mental attitudes of modern day American black culture. Get rid of the so called indignation, educate yourself at a higher level than the "demand for black culture", and ignore the self-indoctrinated beliefs as to what racism truly is. The NAACP is a former shadow for what it once was.

- I am not racist unless I deliberately and passionately hate, despise, and loathe your very soul as a human being. Institutionalized racism, white privelege, and all these other terminologies were created by others for the sake of making warfare against others, for their own means and purposes, instead of just accepting the past and trying to move forward. Some expectations are reasonable to a certain degree as well.

- Americans should be able to vote on how much certain industries bring in. High profile actors, businessman, musicians, PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES (who contribute nothing but entertainment for the neandrathalic towards society), etc. Communism? No. Some Americans would actually give in consideration of the said individuals talents.

- Get rid of lobbying entirely. Make it illegal in Washington.

I proclaim that rights are myths fabricated and used by liars to control the fools that perpetuate them.

Warfare does not discriminate and is not nice. I can't stress this enough. War is not some game that has rules that nations are bound to play by, it is cruel hell. The Geneva Convention is just a bunch of tripe that western nations use to say "we have the moral high ground because we didn't use atomic bombs or nerve gas." It's not the most tripe-abiding army that wins, it's the one that uses the most underhanded and foul tactics. Call it atrocity, but isn't that what war is in the first place?

Neon Genesis Evangelion is great.

Gurren Lagann is overrated. I liked it to the extent I can like something stupid, but that's it. I need more than "this is epic."

No one, and I mean no one, deserves to vote until they fulfill a full term of military service of some kind. Doesn't have to be live combat, but it is preferred.

Democracy may be a joke, but it's a joke with better taste than most other ways (see above).

Those who say "morality comes from society, not religion" are morons. Morality comes from the will of the gods, not people. Ethics come from the will of the majority of the people. You don't have to agree with morality or ethics, but dammit, get the terminology right.

The gene pool has gone stagnant and I am the bringer of chlorine!

Feel free to ask me for more.

As LawlessSquirrel said, my most controversial opinion is that being a paedophile is not a bad thing in itself. It's involuntary and does no harm.

If, however, you try to act on your desires, that is wrong. That can (almost) never be anything less than taking advantage of someone who hasn't made an informed decision about it.

I suppose there's also another one I have which is that different sexes and sexualities are just things that we find attractive, not absolute limits on the types of people we are able to like. I mean that a gay person is essentially just biased towards men in the same way that lots of people are biased towards red hair, for example.

That Democracy is a joke, because, really, have you met the majority of most countries? If they're not drinking themselves stupid or worshipping celebs like gods, they're just working deadend jobs and stagnating.

And people think this is the best system? HAH! Its a joke. I wouldn't trust the majority of people in a X-factor competition, let alone the formation of a fucking government.

There's really nothing that's universally offensive/controversial.

That said, in US society, the ones that have caused the most arguments for me are:

First off, I am against the entire concept of organized religion. If people come to believe in some higher power on their own initiative, great, but I despise the organizations that promote them. Mostly because they encourage the lack of understanding. The fundamental nature of religion is that you do not question your faith, and that is something I cannot forgive. Everyone should always question everything they believe in. It's the only way to progress.

Second, gay marriage. I'm firmly in the camp that it's nobody else's business and anyone who wants to stop two gay people from being married needs to fuck right off. It doesn't bother or affect anyone, in any way, shape or form, so it makes absolutely no sense to deny them. This one is quite a bit less controversial on this site, but I've got a number of family, family of friends and casual acquaintances that argue with me about it.

Third, morality. I am very much of the opinion that there are no shades of grey. Any given act is either right or it's wrong, with absolutely 0 middle ground. The "rightness" of an act can easily be determined by one factor: Does it bring harm (physically, fiscally, or to their freedoms) to someone who did not choose to be involved? If the answer is yes, the act is morally wrong. If the answer is no, it is morally right. Any arguments to the contrary are inherently invalid, as they assume a person has a right or obligation to impose their thinking on another.

Finally, Israel the country should not exist. The creation of the state of Israel was both morally bankrupt and in violation of several international laws. The Zionists needed to shut the fuck up and they all need to leave Palestine alone.

I think that ADD is an excuse for teachers and parents to drug their kids into calming down...

While I acknowledge that certain serious cases of ADD exist, I think it's goddamn ridiculous that more than half of the middle school studens in my school are taking ADD medicine because their elementary school counseler diagnosed them...
My elementary school counseler diagnosed me with ADD, except instead of going to the doctors that the school was trying to send us to, my parents took me to our doctor, who told us that the diagnosis was a load of bullshit.
And look at me now. I'm perfectly fine.

I've got more controversial opinions as well, mostly regarding religeon and how I think it's ridiculous as well, but I don't want to get into that discussion...

100% agree, with one exception. Religious institutions are very much responsible for many of the horrific and otherwise negative things "religion" has been held accountable for. The very concept of organized religion encourages blind faith and obedience, making it several orders of magnitude easier for one persuasive nutjob to commit atrocities the likes of which we cannot fathom.

The biggest problem with religion (including atheism, but it most certainly is a religion) is blind faith. It doesn't matter what you believe; if you are unwilling or incapable of accepting that you might be wrong, you are just as harmful as the Westboro Baptist Church.

Aw crap, you reminded me of yet another controversial opinion I hold.
I'm in the same boat as you buddy, especially regarding voting.
In America, you're allowed to vote for whoever the crap you want for whatever reason!
Hah!
Sometimes it's a goddamn popularity contest!
And why does everyone align themselves with either of the two extremes?
I'm not a Republican or Democrat. They both have good ideas, and they both have god awful ideas. Why can't we just take the best of both?
And don't get me started on religion...
Should religion be a major decider as to who gets elected president?
HELL NO! He's being hired to lead a goddamn country, not comfort people with fairy tails!
That is all.

If someone commits a crime, their punishment should be equal and fitting to the crime.

Religion holds back progress, and is an example of human weakness. It has its benefits, don't get me wrong, but it restricts the human trait of curiosity. "How was the Earth created?" "I don't know. Lets go with magic." "Shouldn't we try and apply reason and logic to this-" "MAGIC!"

If you believe something, solely because you've been told to, whether its a religion, a political theology, or something else, you are an idiot. Find the facts and make your own opinion.

Oh, and democracy never truly works.

Can you think of a better goverment system?
Not flaming just curious

Also I feel sorry for pedos
A pedophile is someone who is born with a sexual fetish they can never satisfy without a horrible guilt trip and can never confide in someone about for fear of bullying

A child molester is a horrible person who ruins a kids life

In short theres a diffrence between pedos and molesters

Also I think gods an absolute murdering prick and satan is a good guy for giving eve the apple and thus the miracle of the descision to decide your own morals
