This and darkness. Fire is harsh, but it eliminates impurities in a substance. In a similar manor, I tend to rip down tapestries that people throw up to make themselves feel comfortable and force them to accept what
is rather than what they want.
Also, I go with darkness due to a few things. For one, the night is absolutely beautiful in some places. Without the darkness, there would be no night. In the summer out in the desert, night and shadows provide respite from heat. Finally, without shadows or darkness, there's very little mystery. Without mystery, there's no need for exploration. Without exploration, there's no exhilaration of new discovery.
