Cue D&D Cosmological Map!

As you can see, opposite planes do not touch each other directly because they cancel each other out violently. Here we have:

The Elemental Planes: Earth, Air, Fire, Water
The Para-Elemental Planes: Smoke, Ice, Ooze, Magma
The Quasi-Elemental Planes: (Positive) Ligntning, Mineral, Radiance, Steam. (Negative) Vaccum, Dust, Ash, Salt
And the Energy Planes: Positive, Negative

OT: I like Fire. It burns stuff to a crisp.

well in pokemon terms water because that's the type I choose the most

in real world terms neon pair me with a lightning user and we'd be great at raves

in captain planet terms heart the most underused element

The universe/setting/novels I'm working on has ten elements, including earth, fire, air, water, lightning, light, shadow, forest, beast, spirit. In my world, all elements can include primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary effects, and can be modified for use by the ancient powers of chaos, destruction, creation, order, war, wisdom or magic, and can be modified further by the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.

For example, earth can mean literal earth/stone/sand/rock, or can mean barriers or blockades, or prisons, or a few related things.

Based on that, I think I'd choose air, because I imagine it'd represent physical air, as well as speed and travel.
What does beast do?

Ice is very neat... Kind of into Earth... Fire is sweet!

Um... I'll go with Ice first, Earth second, Fire third. There.

I'd have to go with plutonium.

I'd have a superpower of mass destruction.

Screw water, fire, ice, darkness, and 'soul' (lol), bow down before me or I will nuke you all

Fire. I'm a right ***** when I want to be, and considering fire is going to be, for my needs at least, the most useful, I think it would be beneficial to me, as uselessness is easily my greatest fear.

Also, there's a grace and a ferocity attributed to fire that I feel I possess as a result of my time studying martial arts...though, to be honest, graceful is not a word that would be used to describe me in other aspects of my life. Ferocity, though? Perhaps.

So, you've got for more of an "Illusion" and "Shadow" definitions of Light and Darkness (technically sub-categories, but with inclusion of LASER, hehe!)? Even so, if it were my story, I'd have the Light and Dark characters related somehow, perhaps even twins... just because... "two sides of the same coin" stuff. Good, but probably cliche', Yin and Yang imagery... and such.
haha!

(PS. I know I come off kinda dickish, and I apologize for that, I just like to make people think about stuff.)

I know I can come of as whatever-you-would-call-a-person-who-talks-dickish-back-to-dicks (Dick squared?), but no, you didn't come of as dickish.
I believe the term is "counterdick"...? lol

Xenon is a cool element. It fuels ion engines.

For something different please enjoy this song Tom Lehrer - The Elements [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFIvXVMbII0].

Without a doubt water, My family has been working on it for more than 300 years, and I've lived on it nearly all my life. Plus I'm extremely paranoid about electric shocks whenever I'm handling electrical equipment or picking up CD's in HMV.. Bloody static..

If you really want power, control hydrogen. Being the most abundant element, it is crucial in our very existence, not to mention it powers the stars.
