Wind ofcourse it's simply the best, because fire can't exist without heat oxygen. And what would you do with the water element in the desert where there is no water so nothing to use either.
Earth is also a good one I gues but stil you need something to use while wind can be used always because there's always air.

Seriously though, I'd go with ice. Burning, drowning, and apshyxiating things is never as fun as freezing things.

A tough one, but I'd say earth. It have more of a one with nature kind of feel, and I would never get tired of terraforming (not a word, but landscaping sounds lame) the land to my desires.

OT: If we are going by ye olde timy and unscientific use of the word elements, then I would go with fire.

when challenged in combat I would keep you talking all the while gradually increasing the pressure in your lungs with every breath you took keeping it compressed so as it wouldn't be noticed and then when it is suddenly released, you would either expload or belch loudly depending on how much i had managed to contain. Failing that as has been previously stated merely removing all the air from the head.

Also if you can turn into your element the ability to dissolve into the air and move about as a current would make most other forms of transport obsolete

Ice or Darkness

Ice: It's cold [I like the cold' It's a weakening type of element, It can keep things from being destroyed through freezing it in to a solid block of ice.

Darkness: It would keep me hidden and sneaky, it's very powerful element that can be used efficiently, and there's more to it than shadows; such as poisoning and summoning.

Apparently so, I thought so as well at first but the firefox auto-spellcheck disagreed and more often than not, it's right so I was going to just use a different word. But landscaping would make my powers sound way too... powerless!

I like it better when it's cool, but I like it as well if it was hot and sunny(NOT HUMID HOT! Something like Beach Hot.). So... Umm, I guess the sun empowers me(given that I have alot of water in stock to drink). Therefore, i'm a FIREY person... Fear me....

Edit: i am hydrogen because when under extreme heat and pressure, we both go nuclear!
But oxygen does calm me down.

but really though, i guess my element would have to be air, because it would let me fly, among other things, and that would be just the cake under the icing.
