Because my sunglasses look like the sunglasses Joe Satriani wears on-stage.

Joe, Joey.

My name is Joel. also, I live in Holland, where those names aren't common.

one guy called me Smiles for a while, because I laugh rarely, but I do have a grin that's been described as 'malevolent'.

My nickname is Liz, although just about everyone calls me that, aside from my mother. She insists on using Elizabeth, which suits me not at all.

I have other nicknames, too:
Gimpy (I'm clumsy and accident-prone, so I usually have some sort of injury)
Crazy Boot (a serious injury led to me having a walking boot)
Little or Lil' Bit (my big sister in my sorority calls me this)
Lizzy Bee (my cousins and my dad call me this; my last name starts with a B)
Dude (a lot of my guy friends and my online friends call me this because they don't believe I'm actually a girl)

<---------------

School friends gave it to me in year 5 or 6. Now out of highschool and still use it.

They also added Ranks in it sometimes. I have no idea why so

Lieutenant Cazza
Captain Cazza

Were highly used. Lieutenant Cazza became more used by a group of my friends. Cazza was used by people who knew me less or didn't know my name.

I don't really have one nowadays. If I DID have one, it'd be Sammo, which is basically my name (Sam) with added letters. Back in the day I had several.

Mario: My first few years in grade school. I had a Mario backpack and lunch box, and maybe a shirt. It was when Nintendo was first getting out and popular, so I was sporting my dorkiness.

Meatball: Later years of grade school and part of middle school. I was always a "fat kid." Though I was always involved in sports and what not, I had always managed to be a bit chubby. Never really "fat" eat least in mine and many others eyes. But this is a nickname I actually embraced. I loved it. In dodge ball I actually had my own special little attack. I'd roll on the ground a little on my side, get up and peg someone with the ball. Called it the "Rolling Meatball"

Spam: Last 2 years of middle school, people stopped being assholes long enough to stop thinking less of me because I was a chubby kid that actually had pretty good athletic skills. I could high jump better than half my class, kick a ball further, play goalie in soccer better, played every position in baseball with equal skill. My nickname got a slight upgrade to this. Though I guess some may consider it a downgrade considering many don't like spam, but like meatballs. Personally I found it a bit less offensive, lol.

Samalam: Only one friend called me this. I was head over heels for the girl, which she was well aware of. Sadly we don't get to talk as often so I don't hear it so often.

A few select people call me by other nicknames like Misha or Mike, but I mostly just go by my name Michael. I also go by Rina sometimes. My general weirdness also earned me a few titles like 'that guy' with a combination of anything perverted or techno and everybody would know who you are talking about here.

I have a couple of nicknames that have stuck with me for some time.
My Aussie friend calls me 'Chard(Pronounced "Shard"), because he can't wrap his head around the Scandic spelling and pronunciation of "Richard"(My name is Rikard).
I have been on a couple of occasions been called Pitbull. Because of my small and stocky build, and ill temper. But that is a name more often used to warn other friends/co-workers of my general mood.

Some people I know IRL call me Three-Dub, as a shortened version of 3W, which is in itself a shortened version of my username. It picked up because someone got wind of the fact that I use the Escapist, and it's used to refer to me when we're trying to be secretive...

Little Hawk, I'm the youngest of the Hawkins (though I'm the tallest and the fattest).
or Hawk if they don't know my siblings.

My dad calls me Hoopy, because it alliterates with my given name and he's a massive hitchikers guide fan. Mostly I give nicknames to other people. In my group of friends we have Ziggy, Banjo, Robin, DJ Squiggles, Coco the clown, Lightbulbhead, Beans, Sundance, Lassie-pants, Pocoyo, and Victorian Dave.

The nickname they call me in return is Scotty. Why? Because I am Scottish. It makes me want to cry.

It'd depend on who you asked; friends from school still know me as Emu. I had too many from my school days to list.
Nowadays, the closest thing to a nickname I have is J.Harizzle.

Like most people here I am the proud owner of several titles:

Spam: My name is Sam (Sam, Spam, get it?)

Harold/Shipman: My last name sounds like Shipman and Dr Harold Shipman was a serial killer

Paula: After Paula Radcliffe (due to my supposed neverending stamina)

Samantha: Two of my friends were dating girls called samanthe at the same time, they referred to them as Sam for short and whenever they said Sam I would respond

The Cat: Whenever I'm in goal during a football (soccer) kickabout I will occasionally pull off an incredible reflex save

E-man: Sam, Samuel, Emmanuel, Eman, E-man. (The person who came up with this was a known drug user and probably high at the time)

MCDeltaT: In a physics lesson we stumbled acroos this equation and thought it to be a good nerdy rap persona. I was the first one to think up a nerd rap and so recieved the nickname.

Thats it I think

I've never really had a nickname that stuck, other than my best friend occasionally abbreviating my name as Tay. Unless you count gamertags, forum accounts, ect. Then I always go by Rune342.
