The Tau.
I just love the Tau.
For the Greater Good!
Either that or the Grey Knights.
I find it ironic that on the tabletop people will cry foul if you take a GK-only army, and overlook the fact tha they're playing a game against an army with around 20/30 models that aren't that much harder to kill than normal Space Marines.

I've seen it happen more than once: "Oh, you play a Grey Knight army? CHEAT! HAX! Wait, I won..?"

Tau, because despite being jerks, they're nowhere near the level of jerkiness displayed by most of the other races. At least as far as I can tell.

And Chaos is pretty neat. I especially like Nurgle because he actually takes care of his followers. Sure, his vision of "taking care" is infecting them with the most bizarre and hideous ailments in existence, infecting their very souls and twisting their bodies so extremely that little trace of their original species remains, but he only wants what's best for them.
Slaanesh is awesome in a really creepy way.

I don't much care for any Imperial forces. I get enough arrogant, "obey me because I say so" d-bags and their blind, unthinking followers in my daily life, and I'm just sort of prejudiced against humans in any setting.

I always prefered Tau, i liked the idea that a race that's only a fraction in age compared to humans (for those who don't know, humans have been around for a good part of 42,000 years and the tau have been around for only 6000) their technology is far superior to any other race. That and the ideology of being concerned with actions that benefit the greater good appeals to me.
On the other hand it may also have to do with the fact that in every movie/story/game where humans are portrayed alongside another race of aliens, they always come off as a bunch of self righteous, over zealous too religious for their own good xenophobes. Strikingly similar to real life mind you.

Tau. They just seem to be the most interesting of the factions, to me atleast. Not to mention they have the coolest hypocritical catchphrase of them all. "For the Greater Good!" they shout as they kill thousands of enemies.

Not to mention-

It's actually not. I'm saying that and I love tau too.

Tau.

The only race that accepts other races into their empire, more so then the EGs Ogrins. Im talking entier planets of kroot and vaspid, as well even some humans and its even likely that some eldar planets support the greater good.

so yer, i started collecting them a weekago 2morrow. My first warhammer40k army :p

And then of course there are the two theories, each worse than the last:

Theory 1- The three Hive Fleets that wrecked everyone's shit so far and have only been beaten back at great cost are just little tiny tendrils of a much-greater force to follow and nomnom everyone, or;

Theory 2- The sudden emergence of the Tyranids en masse means that, like wild animals in a forest fire, they are actually running away from something...

Take your pick. We're all fucked either way.
Hooray, someone else who's come up with theory #2! I do think that there's something out there that totally effed the Tyranids, and that the Hive Fleets are the remnants of their race.

But, for side, definitely the Space Marines. They get plenty of vitriol because of how popular they are, but I do enjoy they're whole "noble defenders of humanity" schtick. And the whole "it's suicide, but by the Emperor we shall win" thing is pretty cool too.

I read the codex some time way back, the story was from imperial files that stated that they had discovered an alien race in early development that they were going to "cleanse" but was postponed due to a 6000 year warp storm. when the tau emerged they came walking about with high tech weapons and whatnot. Also considering they have better rifles, jet packs that increase mobility rather than let you jump higher in the air, and plasma weapons that DON'T over heat. They've made advancements that the Imperium has yet to master.

Hooray! Another person with theory #2! I do think that the Tyranids are the remnants of their race, fleeing from something worse than them.

But, sides-wise, I have to go with the Space Marines. Despite the flak people throw at them for being popular, I do like the "valiant defenders of humanity" and the "it's a suicide mission, but by the Emperor we shall succeed" things they've got going.

Space marines- dark angels

we seek redemption for our mistakes.

the dark angels know they fucked up but instead of trying to push it under the carpet they are going to set things right even if it takes them thousands of years.

I'm pretty sure that the 'Nids Hivemind is actually the 4th C'Tan- The Outsider.

So yeah, between the Void Dragon (all priase to the Omnissiah!) about to wake up on Mars and and the Outider leading his waves of organic killing machines, the 40K galaxy is pretty much screwed.
Wow I never thought about that...
I mean it wouldn't be the first time the C'Tan manipulated a race.
Void Dragon and all..
How could the Outsider be the Hive Mind?
