The Tribes series. What's more important than knowing how to shoot? Knowing how to fly!
Fly, shoot, AND kill with weapons that largely have low shot velocities.
You learn physics really damn fast in Tribes.

Well SWAT 4 requires different skills to other FPSs. Like how to clear a room full of armed and armoured bank robbers without killing or injuring anybody.

A good SWAT commander can go in with nothing more than a TASER and a Wiffle Bat, and bring everyone out alive.
Bean-Bag Shotgun or silenced 9MM SMG with FMJ rounds.
If you know where to aim, you can always incap rather than kill with the SMG.

Don't get shot in the legs if you have to disarm bombs though. LONGEST. STRESSFUL. GAMING EXPERIENCE. OF YOUR LIFE.

It matters what type of "skill" you're talking about.

CoD/Counterstrike type games are the king when it comes to a precision-twitch reflex reaction to enemies since that tiny split-second is life or death a lot of the time.

Something like Halo tests your ability to aim over the long term and ability to control the distance between you and your enemy in your favor.

TF2 is heavy on the teamwork, each class really taking a different type of skill. I rock the spy and engineer who rely on stealth and positioning, respectively, but am terrible at something like the sniper or scout which heavily require precision aiming skill.

For me something like TF2 or Halo is a better test of skill than a CoD twitch reflex type game.

none of them really take skill, if you can play one you can play another, but they all take a certain level of practice.
Nope doesn't apply for KZ. You could be the best COD player ever, play KZ2 and you'll get raped by vets. Coincidentally, KZ2 and Resistance 2 are my picks

I think Call of Duty takes some skill. Playing a game of hardcore free for all with 15 really good players can be hell sometimes.

I guess what I'm getting at is all FPS games take skill. It's the same kind of skill too, so I think if someone is very naturally good at Call of Duty, they will be good at Counter Strike and New Vegas and anything in between. Granted they might have trouble with the slower pacing, but I think they'd still be above average with it.
Doesn't change the fact that their is horrendous auto aim and the other fact that people may/may not respawn right behind you.

Bulletstorm "KILL WITH SKILL!!!"

also

it depends on play style and other things...also the whole definition of skill... does someone who gets a consistent 25+ kills in blops have the same skill level as someone who gets 4 kills in a much more technically challenging game?

I found Socom 2 pretty hard.

Well, "Kill with Skill" is Bulletstorm's tagline, but to be honest it plays out more like "kill in the least efficient but most flashy ways possible". Still fun though :)

Any FPS without auto-aim.

If you can lock-on to an enemy by aiming, if the reticle slows when you move your reticle over the enemy, if the reticle follows your target when they move, then "skill" doesn't matter much outside of "pull trigger when reticle turns red".

Bean Bag guns are actually quite good. Just shoot them in the balls. Also you can fire without having to shout "POLICE! I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU DIDN'T KILL ME AND PUT DOWN YOUR WEAPON, BUT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO THAT'S OK!"

CS 1.6, and to a lesser extent CS:S. Also Quake and Unreal Tournament. Let's not forget half life deathmatch. Garpy blows my mind.

Quake.

You could play other types of FPS games and pick up another one and do alright but drop someone from CS or CoD into Quake and they will get annihilated.

The twitch based aiming that FPSs "grew up" on is the sort of aiming that takes skill. Not this auto aim spray and pray bollocks.
Being able to strafejump around a map whilst hitting targets and taking in where everyone is you have skill.

Oh I didn't mean to imply that the Bean Bag Shotgun wasn't good; quite the opposite; it's the best practical weapon in the game.

High Ammo, low risk, no chance of instant failure from "friendly fire"..

CS:S was always tough in my opinion, I used to be in a semi-serious clan on that game and the game could be very demanding.

Unless you are me with a P90, I am a god with that gun.

battlefield 1942, alot players think the game has the horrible hit detection, but the good players realize that for every 10 ping added to latency, you have to aim farther ahead of your target, which is just frustrating, and yet alot of fun once you get it down

Goddamn is that hard. A pity it suffers from 'Goggles do nothing' effect.

Counterstrike 1.6

Weapon Spam doesn't work like it does in Call of SPRAAAAAAY
Wait, isn't that the game that has that sniper rifle, the AWP or something, that does one hit kills no matter where you hit someone? Yeah, then that game REALLY takes skill.

OT: Red Orchestra.

I know, but it seems lots of people I've seen play the game are like "Bean Bag gun? It's for pussies and is useless after the first level". Granted I give my AI team mates real guns since they always take righteous shots.
