Fortunately, I happen to have a nice little list of my hardware.

(obscenities removed)

There's an SSD in there too, but I mostly have to save it for work stuff.
Yeah well I kept a server online for over 5 years once. :/

I'd also say I have an average powered machine, but it serves me well still so I'm not looking to upgrade just yet (even if some DX11 effects in games make it struggle).

OS: Windows 7 64 bit
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k @ 4.5GHz
RAM: 8GB Kingston
GPU: Asus GTX 560ti 1GB
Screen: Acer P226HQV 22" Monitor
Keyboard: Logitech K120
Mouse: Razer Deathadder Left Handed Edition
Headphones/Speakers: Corsair Vengeance 1500 Headset

My only upgrade in the next few years will probably be to the GPU. Maybe a 600 series from Nvidia or whatever their 700 series turns out to be if I wait that long.

How is the performance in games with that CPU? I've been wondering for a potential build for my friend.

If you're going to be gaming on it I'd drop Win8 to Win7. The time I spent on Win8 was enough to make me want to rip my hair out.

Current build:

OS: Windows 7 Pro 64
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition 3.5GHz Quad core
GPU: ATI HD Radeon 5770
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4GB 2000
HDD: One 1TB, one 2TB, nothing special
Mouse: Razer Naga
Keyboard: (2x) Regular PnP POS, Razer Nostromo
Speakers: Razer Megalodon headphones
Screen: 32' TV, running at 1920x1080 and my secondary is a generic HP 20" running at 1600x900

Built this thing two and a half years ago, looking to finally start upgrading it, starting with the motherboard, the one I bought doesn't support the shit it said it would properly. Beyond that I'm still damn near maxing anything I care about, so upgrading will be fairly inexpensive.

Read around about it and it makes very little difference to gaming, gains a few frames in some games I like, though some driver issues were about when I did my research. I don't have a windows 7 64 bit copy anywhere and windows 8 is a lot cheaper.

Also gonna be doing other things too, which is why I went for the FX over the i5. i5 is better for filters in game, FX is better when compressing data and video editing and such.

It's not too bad if the cpu is significantly overclocked. For BF3 for instance, you see a substantial increase in fps just going from 3.8Ghz to 4.1Ghz. It's not a bad cpu, but it's not great, and in some games like Planetside 2, it can be pretty bad. I would go with the FX8350 or an intel cpu if you can; I built a pretty identical rig for a friend with the only difference being his has a 2500K at stock speeds, and his just never has any of the issues that mine does with certain games. Keep in mind though that next gen games will be threaded far better.

HOW THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE AFFORDING THESE RIGS?!
There honestly hasn't been that many builds listed that you couldn't put together for $1200 or much less.

I'm more disturbed by the lack of quality peripherals.

Some high end GPU/CPU combos listed with such crappy monitors and keyboards, headphones etc. It's a crying shame =(

If you can afford to get a 680/Titan or AMD equivalent, you really owe it to yourself to get a 120hz monitor and a mechanical keyboard.

Only thing bragworthy about my PC is the hard drive. 1 60GB SSD hard drive for the OS to have extremely smooth start ups and 2 1TB HDD hard drives to stock a massive amount of stuff.
