Skulduggery Pleasant from the book of the same name. A talking skeleton in a suit who throws fireballs and punches people in the face.

1) She killed an immortal man, basically god.

2) She became the most powerful human in the world because one of the local gods loved her.

3) Then, she became a god, by allowing him to die.

4) Then, she KILLED ANOTHER GOD, dying in the process. (And saving the world)

A'Lan Mandragoran, Diademed Battle-Lord, Lord of the Seven Towers, Ruler of the Thousand Lakes, King of Malkier.

Everyone else is a poor imitation.
Lan is cool, but I find this statement quite funny as Lan is an Strider/Aragorn clone at times.

Fitz the bastard prince gets my vote, an assassin, warrior, psychic mage and brother to a wolf.

Artemis Fowl, he'll figure out some way to get lots of money or some other valuable/impossibly existent thing.
edit: Oh I thought this was the roommates thread. Anyways, it would be Sun Wu Kong or some variation of it. That is all.

Seconded, especially The Man from The Road. I also like Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men and Barnibus Stinson from The Bro Code ;)

Arthur from The Keys to the Kingdom series.

He's pretty badass.
I'd have to disagree with you there my friend, Arthur is a great character with his own problem, but nothing about him stands out as badass, just the weapons he gets.

Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander, one of the most down to earth individuals that doesn't let the power go to his head. Too often at least.

Ender, from Ender's Game.
Rincewind, Granny Weatherwax, and Death from Discworld.
Mr. Wednesday (Odin), and Shadow from American Gods.
Kudos to Neil Gaiman for actually being truthful to the shadier aspects of Odin (not a spoiler, if you have at least a passing knowledge of Norse mythology, which you would if you're reading it, you should've seen it coming from a mile away. If not, it's revealed pretty early on).

That said, my contribution to this thread would be Batman. He can beat anyone (with preparation).

Agreed, Scarecrow is awesome.
Coming a very close second though is Jack West from the Seven Ancient Wonders books...

The most awesome book character I have come across is Drizzt from Forgotten Realms. He has the maddest fighting skills ever. Plus, it's nigh impossible to kill him.

What about you? Find your opinions, and tell them to me.
He is pretty awesome but my favorite is

Edward from the Anita Blake Series

serious deadly bad ass assassin/bounty hunter....i'm in love....And no they aren't necessarily chick books. Lots of death, violence, and sex and very graphically explained as well. If anyone cares to look up the author it is Laurell K. Hamilton.

personally i don't like how he's drawn, doesn't fit my image in my head how he looks but the books are also graphic novels made by marvel

Character Description
He is 5' 8", slender, blond hair and blue eyed. He has a heart stopping brilliant grin. His eyes can be a cold wasteland. He is not an imposing man to look at and does not stand out in a crowd. Not at all frightening unless you know him. Anita describes him as a chameleon, a consummate actor.

Shigeru from the Tales of the Otori series.

He dies in the first book, but his actions before his death paved the way for the unification of the region. That takes some serious mental acrobatics, not to mention spot-on foresight.
He is rather clever, but I'd say his adopted son "Takeo" is better.
the tribes abilities, Otori blood so he can lead his army, and his Hidden side which prevents him form becoming a mindless killing machine like other tribe members

Its elementary, my dear Watson. The answer is Sherlock Holmes. The man made of win.
Sherlock Holmes never actually said elementary dear Watson in the novles. Don't have a n actual source for this but countless English teachers/QI-esqe shows and books/I've never read it in the ones I've read support this.
