Why all the Michael Cera hate?

I suppose I don't necessarily hate Michael Cera as I have enjoyed a few of his movies. The problem is it's a one and only good time. Afterward I literally want to shove him into a locker if I even see the disc at the video store again.

Due to the type-casted, banal roles that he is always landing with only minute differences at the core, he becomes unbearable after too many movies. I would say it is more of the role, though, because I feel the same way about the kid who played in Adventurland and Zombieland. I'm also a tad weary from the volume of "Awkward and Out of my League" love story subplots in the type of Michael Cera movies.

Come to think of it, that last part has probably grown to be the most cliched and downright annoying addition to so many movies. Even Transformers of all things had to shove that in our faces.

Edit: Take that back. Nicolas Cage is easily the best Batman ever.

HELL YEAH!!! He was awesome in Kick-Ass because of the difference between normal dad's calm voice (even when talking about guns n' knives) and Big Daddy's badassery.

It never occurred to me before that people could dislike him.

For me, he's there and he's good at what he does. Certainly not worth hating.

I guess he does have his 'niche' though and he should probably break it soon.

He's extremely boyish and often (read: always) plays very awkward characters that never seemed to grow out of their teens properly. Poetic irony given his big start was a show called "Arrested Development." Me, I think he's fantastic, but he's been typecast in this role so much that people start to get sick of him.

I don't hate him, I just hate the roles he tends to play, the awkward teen that gets sex --nearly every one of his roles. I liked him in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, though.

No, Katanas were used by Ninjas, the Samurais Mortal Enemy, while Samurais used Samurai Swords. Katanas were just based in the Samurai Sword.

Why I dislike him? That's easy.

I've seen Michael Cera in three roles. And they were the same character. No, I'm not talking the same archetype like Clint Eastwood. I mean the same. Exact. Character.

It's the same reason that I hate Keanu Reeves: If you can only handle one type of role, you're not acting, you're just being yourself with props.

Anyway, he's really not even that awkward in some of his roles. In Juno he's pretty normal around everyone except for his girlfriend and her parents, which is pretty understandable given the situation. I didn't see all of Nick and Nora, but he didn't seem too awkward in it either. I think people are confusing "looking awkward" with "behaving awkwardly".

Because before Scott Pilgrim the only roles he did were as a weak, sniveling, kind of wimpy character. I have more respect for him due to his performance in that particular film, though.

OP: As for Cera, I like him. He's a good actor.

I don't get the "He plays the same character" reason, most actors do that.

Personally, I enjoy his acting, he's definitely got some talent and I loved him in Scott Pilgrim (great movie, go watch it now). Sometimes he is annoying, but I really don't mind since, well, if I got sick of Cera just because he plays similar roles then I'd have to stop watching movies alltogether since, again most actors do that.

And yea, a part of me is jealous that he can be paid so much money for basically showing up and being filmed on camera- but the guy hasn't even showed any range or talent until Scott Pilgrim, and even in that he was the weakest part because his character was an unlikable douchebag. The movie was good, though

I don't hate Cera. I think he's alright. I do get kind of frustrated that he plays the same character over and over again, but I don't find that to be a legitimate reason to hate him.
